You make these assumptions, like that a woman will be regularly dating or in a relationship, or that she will have sex while dating. While rare, its not ridiculously so, for a woman to simply not date and be perpetually single. It's also even less rare for virtuous women to simply not have sex even when dating and be prudish or whatever for years. There are women out there who simply haven't had sex for months or even years and are just living their lives without it... a lot like many men. These men are not all frustrated incel weirdos, some are just going along sexlessly for one reason or another. Same thing for women.
I have a very big and very religious extended family. Going into the 30s a virgin or with a tiny count and then settling down is pretty normal in those rural, conservative, and evangelical circles. Approaching 40 with a 15-20 count and "thats less than 1 a year!" isn't what was talked about here. That's clearly someone who can NOT wait, and gives it up after dating but without the final commitment.

No matter what the women in your life have told you to believe this fantasy, they are 100% lying to you. You do not know any woman in real life that is 40+ virgin or 1-2 body count, period. i don't care if she lost her virginity on her wedding night, married her hs sweetheart and was married 20+ years before getting divorced. If she's been single for more than a month she's sampled a new dick or 3 (or 10+, if she's getting even from a cheating husband).
I think the default scenario for a 40-50 year old man getting back in the dating scene is either 18-22 year olds if he has (a lot of) money or its 30-40 year old divorced woman who has grown or nearly grown children.
I think in your early 30s you may be more willing to take on a woman with younger children and be a "step" parent, especially if you are also bringing children in to the relationship and making a blended family, but after 40 I know personally in my mid-40s I am no longer interested in fulfilling "step-dad" duties and if she has children they need to be 15+ and getting ready to be adults, go off to college, etc. I'm there for them, to offer life advice and shit, but its definitely going to be a first name relationship not "dad/son"
