I have played plenty of Civ 6 at this point so something to shake things up is a nice contrast. That being said I’m running into an issue where the games video is desyncing for 30 seconds to a minute at a time: The audio keeps playing but the video stays stuck until it syncs back up. Not sure what could be causing it but it’s frustrating not being able to get any real playtime in yet.

Update: Verified my files and also discovered that launching from the desktop shortcut wasn't asking me to choose DX12 or Vulcan; launching from Steam did. Once I did those two things the freezes vanished so not sure which did it but something fixed things.

Wait till around civ 8 launches.
I'm still playing Civ 5. Working on filling the Hall of Fame with one victory from every leader. After that I'll move on to Civ 6 probably some time next year. Not even thinking about Civ 7.

Does Civ7 have a working Hall of Fame on release? I know 6 did not and that was a big factor in my losing interest very quickly.

honestly putting graphics aside which are good (who cares), this game is what I imagine i’d get if I sent 50k to some indian freelance dev group and asked them to give me a working civ clone due in two months.

I would play a dwarf fortress graph styled game if it came with civ 4s full feature package. i literally never want to watch little men walk over a mountain, or watch a disney pixar fat black obscure leader shake their goiter angrily at me because i won't trade them a horses.

it's fucking bizaar that they keep wanting to make these sorts of game prettier

the game is effectively is just a fancy board game. i think visual improvements are the most noticeable and easiest changes. game mechanics, ai, etc. are the hardest and least noticeable

It doesn’t have a working anything
They have rolled out several patches but who in the right mind played this game and said "This is great! Release it!"? Their QA must be overflowing with known bugs still, so much stuff doesn't work/is explained well/isn't present. How could you launch with no Great Britain? I think that the core of the gameplay of what I have seen so far is good but its A) Super different; even if it is good, its going to be a hard change for many folks to swallow. You are basically breaking the game down into three sections, three soft resets to prevent the steamroller effect, to give people a change to catch up, I think? But how effective is that going to be in practice? Regardless, I don't mind the change, and gives everyone bonuses/names that are applicable to the age.

Still so many miles to go with this.

Q&A is meaningless it's all about the dates you're required to meet in earnings reports.

KSP2 is another wonderful example of this.

It would be like launching with no Rus/Russia: Stupid. They also missed an opportunity to have the Ottomans, who had a huge impact on world history, and would surely win ESG points for being non-Eurocentric.

So, looks like the smart option is to wait?
The smart option is to never ever buy a $70 Civ game on launch day because since 2005 (Civilization IV release) they keep doing the same swindle: release a half-finished game, product the other half as "expansions", and microtransaction anything else. I'm gonna steal a quote but "best way to get into Civ is playing the previous Civ".

Does this game have live battles like warhammer 3 or just another dumb version of stratego?
Its like every other Civ, except and I don't remember when this changed, its one unit per hex (except for commanders mostly) and the individual units attack one at a time. So to use your formulation, I guess the latter.
