There's your first problem fren.
Reason I bought the thing is because the last gaming laptop I wanted for work crapped out on me, and when I bought this one on Black Friday, I called their damn sales department and negotiated 6 years of warranty, on top of more discounts buying it through the refurbished store. It was better than a damn desktop that I had at the time, and I can travel with it.

Dude I haven't had any problems with it. I was able to play pretty much every game I bought in the past 4 years without any issues including cyberpunk, how to do a little tweaking the first time I played through the game but I got the settings nice and smoothed out, and it ran perfectly fine, I'll albeit not set on ultra, but like I said earlier I can't detect the damn difference.

I honestly just think whatever tweaks and stuff they've made to the game via patches or the expansion it's not near as efficient running as it used to be.

I don't know how demanding destiny 2 is on a system but I can run that on guns blazing, and it's ultra responsive. I got the only other game that I've really played in that same vein of cyberpunk is starfield and once they threw out a couple of patches to tweak their stupid engine bugs, that game was running beautifully, and it's newer than cyberpunk.

It's just weird. I just know there's been some talk of people playing it again, specifically I think Tuco Tuco , I just wondered if there were any tweaks or things that I needed to maybe do or if anybody had encountered similar issues. It's just the damn FPS will run smooth as silk at like 70 or 80 and then suddenly it drops to 30 to 40, even if I'm inside a building at times.

Eh, I don't have an Area 51 but I'm on my second Alienware laptop. My older one had a 1080 which my nephew now uses and still runs great for him. My current one has a 3070 and has been perfectly fine. I want to get a new 50xx laptop eventually, but I am going to update my PC and give my current PC to my nephew. It has a 3080 and that should be awesome for him.

Yeah mine's got a 2080 rtx. I know what the time when I was considering buying it I read a bunch of reviews and it was as good if not better than some desktops that were coming out from manufacturers. I know you can always build something better but I didn't want to have to screw around with it, and what good as a desktop going to do me if I'm gone from home for a couple of months.

I know when the game originally came out I had asked in thread whether or not I would be able to run it without any issues, and at the time I was told I shouldn't have any problems just not being able to run on ultra or something. Played through it, and it was great.

When are you pay a little bit more for Dell, but their customers support is top notch and that's why I wanted to get it because when I try to do stuff with that stupid Acer it was a nightmare, but luckily I bought that one through Microcenter , probably one of the only locations left, and still had warranty, and they basically realize a motherboard had crapped out so I got it completely replaced. Ended up taking that money and getting my wife a new laptop for her work, and went ahead and bought this one on Black Friday.

Cyberpunk has been running super smooth for me, but I have a monster PC with a monster CPU.

I figured you probably did. I guess my machines from the ass end of 2019, and I guess for a couple years it was top notch, probably time now to look at upgrading. It's just so frustrating because I never have those problems with the system up until recently. Also haven't done a clean install of Windows since I bought it, and I wonder how much that might help, or upgrading to 11. Just never felt I needed to you because everything was running so smoothly.

I had a machine from 2018 before I upgraded a few months ago. I actually deferred playing cyberpunk at release because I wanted a new machine to play it. Turns out it was a mess at releae and is now GOATed

I will be honest, I hate that "it was a mess at release", it had some bugs(tpose, objects may not work here and there) that were almost all solved by reloading last quick save point. Otherwise it ran fine, didnt really crash, blue screen, or game breaking bugs. And I was playing it on a old ass i5 and a 1070.

It was a mess at release on consoles, it was perfectly viable on PC. At least in my experience, what I saw here at launch and other friends who played.

I think all the specs got updated with PL and of course mods can add quite a lot of variables to the game.

See that's the problem I'm running into. My machine was perfectly fine for running it when it came out, but it seems like the expansion really changed the inner working of the game. I've been scouring YouTube and the internet to try to find out what I can maybe do, or what's the perfect Nvidia driver to install, and it's just all over the place.

I know when I played it originally there were going to be a couple of odd bugs where NPCs just walking around out in the world did something Goofy, but other than that everything ran perfectly fine and I never had any Quest breaking deals.

They just released a new patch today but it's just stupid stuff that I don't really care about, I don't believe there were any bug fixes or performance tweaks.

That's actually a pretty good idea it's been a while since I've given it a thorough cleaning other than keeping the desk clean and wiping it down when it gets a little dusty. I guess if I've got a bunch of fans running and stuff though it's going to suck up whatever is available.

I just never pulled the dam case apart to get into the internals before. Sure it's not a big deal but just remembering what screws go where, I'm trying to do it when it's not cruddy outside.

Thermals are usually the biggest problem holding back gaming laptops. Even when everything is clean and dissipating as much heat as it can, heat dissipation will keep the hardware from running as fast as it can.

If you're comfortable doing it, I would definitely suggest reapplying thermal paste in addition to cleaning out dust. Depending on what they used, it may be drying out given it's age.

That's another good idea. What's the good stuff the Arctic whatever? It's been maybe 2015 since I built a desktop and I don't remember or know if there's a better brand. I'm sure I can probably find a YouTube video about that particular laptop though as far as the process.

Guess I should have paid more attention than what temperatures were running when I was playing games over the past few years to see if it has really ramped up. Nothing tomorrow though I'll go ahead and pull the back off and bring it outside and run my leaf blower over the damn thing, that should at least clean a bunch of stuff out if it's in there.

Last resort if that all fails? Game from inside your ice box.

Arctic MX whatever was the gold standard for a long time. I used Thermal Grizzly Cryonaut in my last build, which is supposed to by dry out resistant.

Also check that the SSD is making good contact with it's heat sink if it has one. A toasty SSD can be a bottleneck that gets overlooked, though for gaming that's usually only a factor when loading a level.

Did you use the paste of the thermal grizzly, or the pads? I was just watching a video about pulling me laptop apart and replacing everything, and the dude was using the thermal grizzly pads which I thought was pretty convenient looking. I got a tube of the Arctic X6 or whatever the hell coming in, but if the pads work, probably just easier for me just.

Sorry I'm just so far behind on the best products for building or maintaining computers since I switched over to laptops.

The pads or the paste(Tube) work either way, the pads are nice cause you don't really have to worry about over applying paste to the surface. You just basically cut the pad to size, and stick it on.
