I went to swap in new nvme drive into second PC. It's been almost 4 years since I loaded Windows, decided to give it a fresh install.

Well, it is an ITX thing, main nvme is on the backside and just so happens about 2mm of the case overlaps the nvme screw.

Cute.

I have to take it all apart to put in a new drive. Well, nah. Ordered a simple i5 12400 thing and full size board. $230. Might as well install the RTX 3070 basically a new PC. I still have the tiny chassis it came out of, so will rebuild that to Fedora box.

Prebuilt gaming PC's. Recommendations on a brand?

I think the prebuilts on Newegg are pretty good quality. I ordered one from there three years ago and it worked great.

If you live near a microcenter you can buy all the parts and they'll build it.

Im guessing since you have a 4090 etc. that you're recommending this to someone. A computer literate person would best go with Tmac's suggestions. But I think the best prebuilt PC for "others" thats been reviewed by tech Jesus is Asmongold's Starforge bullshit. Their computers knocked it out of the park on his tests and benchmarks.

For what it’s worth I ordered a CyberPowerPC this week because I’m too lazy to build one myself, and my current computer is six years old and not keeping up anymore even sometimes on low settings (it wasn’t top end even when I bought it.)

I ordered a 9700xtx / 9800x3d system with 32gb RAM and 4gb in 2 SSDs for right around $2000. Should arrive next week hopefully.

This was asked recently if you go back a few pages. I have had good success with IBuyPower and have heard good about CyberPower. Costco also sells prebuilt gaming pc's from some of the companies, if you have a membership check your local store.

My last build was via Microcenter, which I promptly ripped apart and cleaned up (Cabling, Rad/Fans in wrong orientation etc). BUT It was like dollar for dollar if I built it, so i will probably go with them again.

I didn’t have them build it and it took me like 7 fkn hours to complete the build bc at that point it had been 6-7 years since my last build and I’d completely forgotten about things like fan orientation, lawl.

So you still prob saved time having them piece it all together even w some tear down.

Did an ibuyower for my wife a few years ago (3080 timeframe?) and it was/is still running great. Very clean inside with good cable management and components by respected brands.

I have been happy with my Starforge Navigator Elite, I have had it since July of '24. I just ordered two Navigator Pros for my kids.

When Covid was ramping I could not find a video card so I had to go with a prebuilt to get one. So I got a microcenter "Powerspec" PC. Games would consistently crash, I took the fucker back and they even gave me a new one with a switched out C:....Same shit.....Ended up being the motherboard needed like 1 yrs worth of updates to the bios. One of the updates which made them compatible with the 30 series video cards, lol. So once updated It never crashed again.

Not having at least somewhat up to date software, especially bios and drivers, is one of the most infuriating things for prebuilts to fuck up.

Yeah, I mean, This was like the last thing I was thinking about, updating bios on an intel board? I don't think i ever did that before. But sure enough....

Yeah it was at the height of some now failed coin mining. Video cards were like literal GOLD for like a year or two.
