People that only use one HD are fucking maniacs to me.
Maybe hes got some lying around the house from past builds. Shit I think between my PC and all the kids we have littoral DOZENS SSD, many which are nvme. I even have some older 3TB platters lying around too.

it's obviously a gaming pc w/ a 4070, so you should get a 9800x3d

and i'd also would want to see a more modern case, at least one that supports vertical gpu mounting, not to show it off, but b/c so many issues arise from a heavy card sure you can also buy a gpu mount or stick a pencil under it too.

Ok I'm pretty tarded when it comes to the nuts and bolts of desktops. I have this motherboard, wondering what my best option for adding another SSD is. From what I can gather i should get one to go in one of the two free M.2 connections on the board. The third one looks open and not behind the graphics card. This is how the manual describes it:
1 x M.2 connector (M2C_SB), integrated in the Chipset, supporting Socket 3,
M key, type 22110/2280 PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 SSD support)

Is this correct?

unless you get an nvme with a big heat sink attached they should sit flush enough to not interfere with the vid card. Also have standard sata ports on the side if you just want capacity storage for a large SSD.

yea what this jumble mess means
e4556af218a6de15c5cca106c9ed9afd.png

is that the first one (closet to cpu, usually) is tied to the cpu and is pci5/4, this should be your main c:\ nvme w/ the bestest nvme

second is also tied to the cpu w/ less lanes so it's pci4 if you drop a second nvme in here it "might" drop speeds idk i haven't checked

third is tied to the chipset at pci4 this also shares lanes w/ sata so if drop a nvme in slot 3 AND you have sata drives, you might be dropping a drive if you have for instance 4sata drives connected

in truth you can just drop em in and not notice any loss of speed or issues unless you actually have 4 sata drives and you decide to use slot 3

Last 2 builds I had M2 drives in 3 slots, fastest in slot 1
cannot tell any difference between any of them. They are all fast as hell!

My needs are simple, i currently have 1TB and just want to bump it up another 1 or 2 TB so i can have a few 100GB games without having to worry about space. Going to go with the third M slot.

i would consider 4tb
the difference for a samsung 990evo is 130 vs. 270
SAMSUNG 990 EVO Plus SSD 4TB, PCIe Gen 4x4 | Gen 5x2 M.2 2280, Speeds Up-to 7,250 MB/s, Upgrade Storage for PC/Laptops, HMB Technology and Intelligent Turbowrite 2.0, (MZ-V9S4T0B/AM)

while it's not chump change is pretty good to future proof (for a few years), it's not on the line of "cost effective" as it is that you'll never have to worry about expanding, 1 more time in the far far future.

also if you download samsung magician
it's stupid easy to clone your os for data migration, point and click really

then just remove your old nvme and put in the new 4tb nvme in the 1nvme slot

what would you do w/ your old 1tb drive? use it as a backup? you could make it into a really fast thumb drive
SSK Aluminum M.2 to USB NVMe SATA SSD Enclosure Reader, Tool-Free USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps NVMe PCI-E 6Gbps SATA M-Key / B+M Key Solid State Drive External Adapter With UASP Trim, for SSDs 2242 2260 2280

for 20bucks you have a great fast backup drive, thats what i use my old 1tb drives for, i backup locally (pictures, docs, etc) and put it into my safe.

so your order of operations would be
buy new 4tb drive
install it into 3rd nvme slot
download and install samsung magician
point and click clone.
turn off pc, and swap old nvme for new one

Assuming your hard drive isn't encrypted or some other BS you should be able to clone straight to an external enclosure and not need to install to a 2nd/3rd slot that might require reseating the GPU or other annoyances. Which you will probably have to do at the end when you swap the original with the new so limit that to only once.

In terms of USB external devices it is occasionally useful to have a CD/DVD/Bluray drive and Gen 2/3/4 enclosures. Well maybe not Gen3 but I had one for the PS4 because it was actually faster than an internal Gen2.

Okay, first new computer and monitor in six years just arrived and I’ve got it booting up.

Are all computer cases this gigantic now? I had no idea. I opened up the box I was like god damn.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D
2TB SSD X 2
32GB RAM
7900XTX
Asus PG32UDCP

I’ve got Cyberpunk 2077 downloading right now. I just want to see how it looks with the new 4K OLED monitor and GPU. Should be a big difference from my 5700 XT and 1440p monitor!

I never really got into cyberpunk even though I bought it early on, so hoping these amazing graphics let me get into it more. Have to look into some of those realism mods.

Prebuilt? Check that Expo is enabled for RAM speed.

Cases can cover a wide ranges of size. Just depends what you choose or how you want to build.

That's a dual chamber design, they're usually pretty wide and/or tall. That's a fairly power hungry build so it's probably a good choice. Cases these days are mostly an empty box with a bunch of fans to move a lot of air without making too much noise. Generally the smaller you go, the more of a problem heat and noise become.
