You need a tower, cuz it's a nice way to have extra desk space, so you can lay some organizational thing on it like this

or a men's valet, just dear lord don't put a cold drink on top of it.

That's really nice. I've been looking at the Silent Base 800 lately.

I still plan on building a sick PC when Skylake-E comes out.

really quick general question - confused about atx vs matx. Can i fit an ATX motherboard into an MATX case? Or do i need a specific mATX mobo?

Probably not. Normal ATX is a bit bigger than mATX, so you probably need to get a smaller board. But check the case documentation, might say something different.

And just picked up a EVGA ACX 3.0 SC from Newegg, so I finally can finish my VR rig, woo~

From largest to smallest.
EATX -> ATX -> Micro ATX -> Mini ITX

Any case that supports ATX will most likely mount anything smaller and you can carry that on through to the mini ITX size. So EATX supports everything below it, and ATX everything below that etc. That's the norm on most cases but I'd always double check the documentation, some manufacturers will skip out on the mounts for smaller mobos to save costs.

I think it looks pretty decent for my first time. Any suggestions?

Will be adding two 7200 HDs in the bottom, as well as another 140mm fan in the front intake.

That looks great! Reminds me of how badly I want a new case, but no reason at all to do it right now.

Looks nice, similar to how the interior of my Corsair 800D looks. Took the guard piece that usually hides that hard drive bay fan out for the pic, and if it wasn't for said fan the cables in the bottom wouldn't be as much of a mess. Stupid power plug conversions. You don't want to know what the back side of the case looks like... it's like a bowl of black spaghetti. Also, those magnetic mesh filters are awesome. Can see the one on the back fan... actually I'm not sure why that thing is mounted on the outside.

For the kids birthday in august, going to be gathering this shit slowly. He likes gaming and streaming and all that other shit tweens do these days. That Video card is a placeholder for something newer in a few months. I have a micro center like 45min away so ill be taking advantage of them too. Maybe get a hundo more off. He will also need a monitor, but im thinking a cheap 1080 samsung from costco. They are like $160.

snake all your power supply cables through that big opening, even the power cable to the mb, like this

do all your twist tie and shortening and stuff on the back of the mb, you should have 1/2 in to 1in of space, like this

Good call but I tried to get the MB power supply like that and it was too tight an angle for that thick cord, it's super ropey. I may try it again or might see if there's an aftermarket cord that would work (or maybe I'll just say fuck it if I get lazy lol).

Thanks for the advice!

optional is to cut off the sleave on the mb powersupply cable. they probably have 2 or 3 zip ties making a round thick rope, cut those off too, then you can "flatten" out the thick cable. don't even have to cut off fully the sleeve, just start in the middle and leave the sleave parts (the with the heatsink) still on, so it looks kinda nice, and just cut it up in the back to flatten it out.

Here's mine

rrr_img_135456.jpg

Couple things I already know - PSU is kind of a piece of shit, need to upgrade. There's a rat's nest of fan cables to the left of the top blue fan, I need to zip tie them and try to hide them

The 970 is being replaced with a 1070
