I never thought I'd need 4 monitors and yet here we are... (pardon the mess, just added two more SSD's to the rig and preparing to move the computer to the next room).

Side note: As someone who reads structural plans on a daily basis, 4K monitors = heaven.

Ha! Negative! I built the desk myself. Going to tear it down and rebuild it eventually. Used paint that rubs off quite easily unfortunately. I have to have my arms resting on the desk because my shoulders are messed up and I can't sit how most people do without having extreme pain in my shoulders/arms.

Parts are in, gonna start build tomorrow.

Question: I want to use the SSD as my boot drive and the other HDs as storage. Is there anything in particular I need to do or will Windows prompt me through the process? Any pitfalls to avoid when setting this up?

Also, do people generally isolate their OS to the SSD and do everything else from their other drives? What are some good practices for file managment and keeping OS clean?

Synj your SSD is big enough to house your OS, a lot of games, Office (if you use it), main programs... you get the point. I have a 400GB drive as my boot drive (Windows), Autocad, Adobe Suite, several games, a bunch of other programs and I still have 300 GB free.

If you want to make things easy on yourself, just plug the SSD in, install windows, and then plug in the harddrives afterwards. Teeeeccchnnically you don't need to do it that way, but it is easiest and most foolproof. Anyways, after you plug in the harddrives just go to start and type in Computer Management, go to Storage, and format the hard drives from there.

Love mine. I have the plans for the desk still (if anyone is interested - it was fairly easy to build), the dimensions are perfect in my opinion.

I like two-tier desks, if I was going to build one. It's the only reason I've kept this one for so long.

I do realize you can just buy monitor stands.

Nice, thank you. I'm overthinking it.

You can move storage folders to your storage drives, like pictures, downloads, music, shit like that. Just do it from the right click menu. Thats the only thing I do, but Im still sporting old school 120gb ssds, hehe.

Oh shit, good point. Synj I'd keep your documents folder on the SSD (or not, whatever suits you) but like he said, just right click on Pictures/Videos/Music/Documents in the start menu, and then type in the location of the new folder on the other drive. For example, my pictures location looks like this:

Didn't realize there was a way to do that natively in the OS. I guess I never thought of it, but that's a good idea!

I have a 500gb SSD and then some WD Blues for storage, it will make it easier.

Yall mother fuckers need to use the mostly manly of manly cases. I mean, 41 pounds without components? Can't get much more beefcake than that.

Corsair Obsidian Series 900D CC-9011022-WW Black Aluminum ATX Super Tower Computer Case - Newegg.com

I have the original 800D that they don't make anymore, been going strong for 6 years and I have zero reason to buy another case for the foreseeable future. Fairly certain I could use that thing as a tornado shelter if need be.
no one needs that much god damn tower anymore :p

Unless you are doing some insane custom built water cooling, cases of that size are simply not necessary anymore.

Hell, this is my first build I have downsized from full ATX down to mATX. Performance is every bit as good as my last full ATX build, but smaller and quieter.

So add a bed in there and youre fucked, bro. Beds take up a lot of room.

We have all our gaming shit in the family room. 2 computers, 2 small desks and a TV and Couch. The room is about 16x12. If I play console I plug it into my PC monitor, I like to play it that way because I use xim and keyboard and mouse.

The older kid has his setup int he basement. 55" tv xbone, playstation, and a fucking mess he needs to clean up. Younger one has his 50" in his bedroom plus ps4.
