On my sons 3700x build you can literally feel his room being hotter when hes gaming for an extended period. At times I walk in there and its like a fucking sauna. I game in a large room, prob 12x20 ft so impact is minimal on ambient but still....
Over a long period of time the heat dissipated into the room is the same between air cooling and water cooling. The energy has to go somewhere.

The problem here is that we went from 65W to 105W and now 240W desktop CPUs, with GPUs following suit to bring the masses more performance.

When I try to explain this to people, I get made fun of, so good luck.

Thats fine but the whole object should be to get the heat out of the case as fast as possible. Room temps dont really matter unless you live in a box with no air conditioning in summer. Winter that extra heat is a bonus.

Eh, I'm more a fan of positive pressure than negative. Technically, denser air has a greater cooling effect and it also means dust won't be drawn in via any free opening, helping with dust accumulation.

Build done. Won't have to be until Tuesday to see if it boots. Still nervous about psu/cpu fan after the shitty shipping. Pen for scale for non gamer friends that still have a 1660 super.

No rgb madness. Cable routing in back was a little rough like in GN review of the case. A few really tight bends that were trickier with the reinforced bit of the psu cables.

Most problematic was gpu, have the spare plug hanging and if i tried to bend back over the card to try and go in the hole behind gpu, left me a pretty big U that i thought would hit the case panel. I also already had the 24pin blocking a lot of my ram and the various heat fins behind that, so i wanted to keep the area between the 180mm fans and the cooler open. Hard to take a pic, but in the corner running along top of card seems like a pretty decent corridor for air past the ram i wanted to preserve.

So i went vertical cord, it runs along the glass pretty much out of the direct path of fans.

Snag a couple these? Those GPU power cables running across like that would make me wince.

I can spot a torrent, such a sexy beast. I had bought a rear fan for the build I did just so it had that extra kick

I was debating that, never bought a fan singly before, suggestions?

The back is 180mm?

Thanks to Mist over in the GPU thread, I was able to get myself a 3080ti, and as such I things like CPUs and rams to get those sweet sweet FPS's. Would appreciate some advice, both on the level/performance of what I've chosen but also the price, like if it's currently overlisted.

After brief research I feel like the 12700K(f) is the sweet spot for performance and price. Amazon has the KF for $351, and I saw Microcenter has a deal for the K for just $300, but it's in-store only and the nearest MC's are in Dallas and Houston, an equal 3 hours away from me in Austin. I don't think that's worth it, with the exception that if other parts in my list could be acquired for better deals than Amazon/newegg, I'd make a daytrip.

Along with this I found the MSI Pro z690-A for $232, which lets me use that snappy new processor but also cheap and reliable DDR4 memory (and also the integrated wifi and bluetooth would see use). Assuming this is a wise choice (avoiding DDR5), what the heck ram to choose? There's a zillion listed and the price range seems relatively tight, the cheapest 32gb I saw being about 120 with lots of options at 140/160/180, which are all possible choices, so if someone could just say "____ is the one you want" that'd be great.

Similarly, for hard drives, no idea what to choose. I'm currently using a 1tb SSD with 4tb storage, but the storage was used entirely on downloading torrents and I've switched almost entirely to streaming stuff, and I don't keep a wide dearth of games installed so I'm thinking a nice 2tb nv.me would do me solid. Is raid still a thing? Should I be looking at 2x1tb drives?

Power supply I'm guessing like 850 would do the trick, and I'll figure out the case situation later, as I'm currently using an open-air one I like a lot but I see lots of new options. Right now I just wanna get the guts all sorted out.

Day trip is probably worth it.
