Funnily enough, with wood accents coming back into vogue with the Fractal North and such, those fucking brown fans might actually start to look fashionable in a glass/transparent case!
I was going with a Fractal North and these fans until I realized my video card would be too big. Of course NOW they make a bigger case.

I like this, faster tighter timings

its about time things surrounding desktops shift to something new - This would get me to start constant hobby builds again, especially with the zero builds.
Aren't you excited to bend all of the pins on the motherboard for BOTH the CPU and the memory now?!

Like no tomorrow! - I have been fortunate enough to have only bent pins in 1 mobo and 1 cpu in my life so far. Both times were because of me being a dumb and my lack of patience.

With Windows 10 losing support next year the clock is ticking for me to get a new PC. My current PC is about six years old with a 2080. I work from home and game on the same PC, so I have some questions...

Is a 4090 really worth the sticker price? It seems to me the 7900 is just a better bang for the buck.

Also, I am looking for a good prebuilt, though I could be talked into building my own. The last PC I built was about 11 years ago, that one lasted me 5 years and then I bought my current PC from XIDAX. Seems like PCs are even easier to build now. Thoughts?

PCs are very easy to build yes, but holy fuck is the RMA process for any manufacturer in the space terrible. If anything goes wrong with the hardware be prepared to have a terrible time replacing it.

So pre-built just avoid the hassle?

That's what I'll be doing from now on. I built my current PC and just went through hell identifying and replacing a faulty Intel processor. Never again.

MicroCenter is the move if there's one near you. You can go pick out all the physical parts and they'll put it together for you. Pretty kewl.

Sadly there isn't one close to me. When I lived in Vegas there was a Fry's and it was pretty decent.

Any suggestions on Pre Built companies? XIDAX gave me shitty customer service, so I am not looking to give them repeat business. I was looking at Starforge and NZXT, but I am open to other suggestions.

I bought one prebuilt off Newegg and one from MicroCenter. Both have worked well.

Ill build for the cost and the vig

I downgraded from a 4090 to a 7900xtx and notice no difference @1440p - i dont see a 5090 hitting 4k240 but the one after it should ,

4090 is overkill for 90% of the shit out there and its still bottlenecked by some other computer components that are top of the line in their field. I got CP2077 with max settings and played that, and it looked gorgeous. But it was still averaging out at like 58 FPS with everything on. Thats not "terrible" but I couldnt really see the difference in a lot of the top end settings. I mean the difference is miniscule compared to the other software tech that you can use, and the new shit demands so much more from the system that I dont think its worth it. So 4090 is nice, but I just dont think I needed it "bad enough" unlike you with a 2080. I think you'll be fine with a 4080, but if you're trying to save some dough - you can probably wait to the 50x0 series and just buy a 40x0 series that much cheaper.

I'd go with a 4080/7900 and and put the difference into a high quality 1440p monitor.

My Current Monitor I game on is a Samsung Odyssey G7 32" and I love it. My Next monitor Purchase will be the Ark 55".

Side note, with the rumors starting about the 5090 coming (soonish) I wonder if i should wait and see if 4080/4090s drop in price.
