I'd recommend looting chests, but that's not necessarily the case. I actually timed the spawns during my 2 hour stint. It was like clockwork with the first spawns appearing ~5 minutes in every time. I did loot chests for about the first hour then I stopped because most were in side rooms and I didn't want to go in, look around, and go back.
That said, yeah if you know the chest points definitely loot them as well. One of my friends got 5 purples during his stint there from chests. I was watching the H1Z1 invitational so I would take 5 minute breaks in between collects.
In regards to light level, the difference of a lvl 31 to lvl 32 in damage was also ~15% or so. So I'm guessing 5 light level = 1 level.

I finally spawned into a dreadnaught last night that wasn't a ghost town. I got tired of helping the group of six farming court of oryx with tier one summons, so I dropped an antiquated rune on them. We got it done, but it was ugly. Got my 300 artifact!
I skipped last weeks nightfall after failing repeatedly in a mega-abortion of a pickup group that couldn't get past the first stage. Did the new one today, and all three of us got exotics.

Looking to run Nightfall for the first time in like a year, jones_ucf on PSN just go ahead and send me a friend request or invite me to join a party, gonna fire up the PS4. Light level 288 or so, just started playing again whenever my first post was in the last few pages.

Anyone else having trouble finding good rocket launchers? I've yet to have a legendary one drop, and the best blue one I found that had tracking was only like 230 light (I got it on day 2 of TK and dismantled it shortly after, assuming there would be better ones down the road instead of saving to infuse) 294 light now and every rocket launcher I've found has been total crap. Low light and bad stats/perks. I'm rolling in machine guns though. Think I've got 4 or 5 "good" ones.
I had that problem. I yolo'd a few heavy engrams from the cryptarch and got dicked on twice, but eventually I got a 280 launcher and just infused it up. If all else fails, just go buy one from the Vanguard/Crucible/Faction merchant

So it's gone for now, but if you still need a Black Spindle next time the daily comes around, we found a pretty easy strategy. First clear out the room of adds and blights, then rush the boss with swords. We had a defender for weapons of light (I read it works on all dmg now?), and a hunter for the shackle, but I'm not sure it was necessary. I was the only one with an exotic sword (Raze Lighter), but we managed to burn him down to a sliver before all dying. And if you haven't tried it yet, you can have everyone dead without being booted out, just wait for your rez timer and pop back up. A few more hits with my pulse rifle and he was dead. With another Raze Lighter or 2, he would've died much faster. We then had like 5 minutes to kill the adds. Definitely easier then the send 2 left, leave 1 at start strategy which we tried for many wipes before that.

It was fun. Me and a few buddies took it out - about 30 minutes or so.
They both got exotics. I got jack shit. But I completed the quest and got a 300 Fusion rifle, so there is that I suppose.

Yesterday was a pretty killer day for exotics for me. Hereafter, Invective, Don't Touch Me, and Bolt-Caster. It definitely made up for not managing to snag a Black Spindle.
I'm actually really enjoying Hereafter. The scope is killer, and it has the most satisfying sound of any gun in the game.

Can someone explain Gunsmith rep and field testing the weapons to me? There is a weapon this guy delivers upon order that is very useful in the riad I guess, and the game mechanic is intriguing. Do I just pick up one of the white weapons and a quest is automatically deposited in my area where the bounties usually are?

The quest is on the weapon itself. Just use them until they say "completed" in the weapon profile. You'll automatically get rep and the weapon can be discarded. For every rank you have with the gunsmith, you can place one weapon order for 2500 glimmer that delivers on wednesday. Just keep the ticket in your inventory until then, and then go back to the gunsmith on wednesday to snag your item. You also get a choice of stats for every rank of gunsmith, so rank 2 is 2 weapons with 2 choices, rank 3 is 3 weapons with 3 choices, etc.
Also, rank 2 is when you open up a quest for a legendary class weapon, and rank 3 is for your exotic class weapon quest.
