Datamined information from a Alpha client from a month ago.
It's datamined from the Android app which was updated at the start of the beta and includes data on stuff far beyond the scope of just the beta content.

Well no, there is a whole Diabloesque gear system to work through as well. And they have gated PVP/PVE gear with the raids.
The loot isn't all that random though. Like all the stuff you buy with marks--which is what most people will be using--has static mods. Exotics are limited to one weapon slot and one piece of armor (still retarded!), so there's a limit on what you can do to improve your gear there. The weapon part seems extremely restrictive, because an exotic primary weapon is almost certainly going to be the way to go there, making special/heavy exotics worthless unless you don't have a primary yet. Of course there's always a chance you'll loot a legendary that is better than what you bought with your marks, but there aren't that many mods and most ideal combos are already available on vendor gear. Granted you'll have a bit of a clown suit going on if you want to avoid trash with pulse rifle/hand cannon/shotgun mods, but hopefully armor shaders will make different set pieces look ok together.

What do you mean by exotics being restricted to 1 weapon slot and 1 armor slot? Are you saying its a hard coded restriction as in if you have multiple to use you can still only wear one of each type at a time?

And something that for testing purposes doesn't need to be fully up to date necessarily. His argument still stands even if he goofed on the source of it.

Yes. The source on that was the January issue of Game Informer, so it's possible that Bungie has realized what a dumb idea that is between then and now.

The reddit thread I read cited the Alpha client. Where can I go to see the info on the Android app mined?

Thereddit threadwas posted by the guy who runsDestinyDB.

(Note that the title of that thread is misleading and he couldn't edit it. Have to read the post itself or go to his site for the actual data that was mined.)
Thanks. I was going by this

"As the Developer of DestinyDB I would like to say a few things before everybody starts to rage with Bungie.
The website is hiding activities that do not have a proper name, including story missions.Again, as stated in the OP the information is from June 30th, 2014. You can still see a few of those incorrect names/descriptions in places like the description of the Reef."

So I played my Titan a lot. I believe strength is basically useless.

Getting in close enough range to get a melee kill maybe happens 2-3 times in a Crucible match. In that time span your melee special will more then likely be up. I don't think I ever tried to melee someone and didn't use the special.

Even if it was moderately useful, the grenade reduced cool down from Discipline is insanely good.

Pro tip. Titan grenades suck for damage. But every time you are going in to a flag area you should be throwing a grenade first. The flag areas are mostly tight areas and if someone is crouched waiting to ambush you, you will most likely not see them on your radar. If you throw a grenade first and see it tick damage on 1 or more persons you can see exactly where in the room they are hiding and how many enemies there are because the damage ticks above there heads. You should be throwing a grenade at every single flag you go to. And you need a short ass cool down to do it.

Wow i seriously hope thats not the case - what point is doing something like that in a game where the object is to collect cool gear?

The people I gave my beta codes to, and a few who got in when the floodgates opened up, are jonesing for their Destiny fix and were asking me yesterday if there was another beta or anything before the launch.

Kudos to Bungie for creating an addictive gaming experience, hopefully the next 5 weeks will go by fast.

i think it's a bit disingenuous to say things like, "i'll be surprised if it's more than 15 hours of gameplay." I put an average of 10 hours on EACH of my characters during the beta and that was only in a very limited game. I'd be willing to bet that most people on this board did the same, if not more. I played my hunter the least and she had 8 hours played. let's assume that there's ONLY 4 planets and ONLY one map per planet. of course not all maps will take the same amount of time to complete so let's be overly generous and say that it'll take 5 hours per planet. that's 20 hours right there. that's not including gearing up for raids, that's not really including any exploration or repeat strikes. i'm not saying there will be hundreds of hours of content... just... I'm not worried at all about length.

secondly, there's been some comments here and there about devs saying that you can go anywhere you see. there was a quote from a dev saying that something about looking off into the distance and commenting about a far off place. he said that they want players to eventually go and explore there, we could go right now, but development time is too tight. he also commented on the geometry being real. there's been talks contradicting that about how if you take a sniper rifle and look, it's clearly NOT real geometry. and lots of parkour experts have proven that non-explorable areas are not real geometry. my response to this is that this was the beta. why on earth would they include ALL the extra data involved in filling up places that we are not legitimately able to go to? most betas and demos do exactly that. the demo to just cause 2 made it impossible to travel a certain distance. that obviously didn't mean that would happen in the full game.

a little bit of skepticism is healthy... but the ludicrous group-think going on is just weird.

Its not weird really its just a bunch of old gamers who've been around and are allowed to comment on games they put their money in really - I know i plan to do up either a Hunter or Warlock - and currently no interest in Titan.

At any rate there were a few decent questions posted on IGN that got answered.

@CaramelRanger asks: How large are the "raids/dungeons" going to be?

The Raid team is very cagey with the details they want to share pre-launch. The most satisfying and rewarding aspects of the Raid require that we let you experience it fresh, so you can figure it out for yourself alongside a crew of your friends. They are easily the largest, most complex, and challenging single activity we have ever attempted to build. They're designed to punish your for failure, and reward you for planning, cooperation, skill, and execution. Good luck!
--

@smerfsoccer09 asks: can you explain the "Golden Chests"? I have 2/5 but no clue what they are.

Each destination has several hidden Gold Chests for you to find. They have treasure inside, and if you collect them all, you might earn yourself a bigger prize. There are also other treasure chests spread out all over the worlds of Destiny. Some of them are hidden fairly well, and a lot of fun to find. I like to pretend that I'm Nicholas Cage, hot on the trail of ancient secrets.
This next question amused me bc the question was obviously aimed at char creation but got some generic response about gear.

Mostafa Hani Sobhi asks: Will the game feature more character customization options?

The Beta was a small sampling of the armor, weapons, gear, and abilities you can earn in Destiny. Typically, the higher level the gear, the more unique and creative it will look! Some players have already found some of the really crazy looking stuff in Beta (you can look, but you can't touch!).
--

The general complaint with Destiny has been the lack of a proper chat system. Will there be team chat in multiplayer and proximity chat in story missions in the final game?

We've seen the feedback, and there's quite a bit of ongoing discussion happening around this right now. I don't have a definitive decision, but I can say that the team wanted to err on the side of promoting and fostering positive communications between strangers in the world, and knew that friends were going to find simple and effective ways to enable voice chat with friends through the Fireteam audio channel, and platform chat. We hear you, though. Please keep sounding off with feedback. We're just getting started!
--

How long will the campaign be? As the Beta revealed a lot about the story and I loved it!

We're aiming for a substantial story campaign, and the mileage you get will vary :). If you finish it as fast as possible and never go back, we want it to feel satisfying. If you want to go back and experience it in a different way, be that by selecting a different difficulty, as a different class, with your friends in tow, or via some stuff we're doing in the Director to switch it up, you'll get even more out of it.

why on earth would they include ALL the extra data involved in filling up places that we are not legitimately able to go to?
Because that would require hours of development time to rip out assets which aren't actually used in the beta, instead of just having people download it all and throwing ?? mobs in the paths they don't want us to go down.

There's plenty of 'ludicrous group-think' going on both sides. Just look at the Destiny sub-reddit, it's filled with kool-aid drinkers who downvote the shit out of anything even slightly critical of the game.

You seem to be going out of your way to shit on everything about this game based on your own speculation. I'm guessing kool-aid drinkers are anyone that disagrees with you

While correct, if the content isn't finalized yet to the point where they've got absolute names and such for missions it's got no sense in being there yet either though. And since they weren't just plainly viewable it does show that they intended to obfuscate things to some degree. As far as we know the public version of the app is the same version they were using in house in January for example, I'm sure they've got backups after all.

Don't get me wrong, it might be content light - most "MMO" labeled products are to some degree - but the app mining is hardly a slamdunk. (Heck, that summary link the main post even says as much right under the summary)

That's not even remotely true, especially not the post you quoted. I wasn't shitting on the game at all, just saying from a programmer's point of view that j00t's scenario made no sense.

Beta build. Build made for beta. As in, incomplete by definition. I'm not saying anything other than there are areas that are clearly incomplete and that there is precedence for it not being complete. From a programmers standpoint, why put more in it than needs to?

FINALLY. This is the shit you need to know.
Attack Impact Rating | Destiny News.net

Facing a yellow health bar enemy decreases head shot damage by 50%, no effect on body damage. I also noticed that Servitors (the floating mechanical orbs) act as yellow health bar enemies, even though they had red health bars. Critical hits to the "eye" were 50% less effective than typical headshots, while non-critical hits did the same amount of damage as a typical body shot.
Guns will reach a maximum damage against enemies at or before the level needed to wield the gun.
Differences in damage done are less noticeable against lower level enemies.
Damage done to an enemy 1 level higher than the player is reduced by 29% for both head & body. By 3 levels higher, damage is reduced by 50% for both head & body.

And most importantly, when trying to decide between higher impact or higher attack rating:
If the Attack Ratings are relatively close, IMPACT seems to be more important. In the Scout and Sniper tests, Attack Ratings had a difference of 6 and 5 respectively. The higher impact gun always did more damage.
If the Attack Ratings have a larger gap, the gun with the higher Attack Rating will do more damage almost every time. As shown in the Hand Cannon test with an 18 point difference in Attack Rating, damage dealt to Level 2 enemies was greater for the high impact gun. However, at Level 3 enemies and above, the higher Attack Rating did more damage.
