Anyone want to start a PS4 console fund for me so I can play this in in all it's glory on the PS4?
biggrin.png

Wife doesn't want me to spend $450 on a Destiny bundle right now since we have a baby.
I didn't want to drop that much either so to soften the blow I traded in my PS3 & all games. Didn't get much but hey $200 is $200! (Best Buy)

PAX is this weekend I believe and they've said they have a few things in store with it being the last stop before release. We'll see though. Besides a few Halo games at a friend's house Destiny has been my first real exposure to Bungie and they sure are secretive and damn good at it. Initially I just felt the story was thin and shit but as I've learned about Bungie and dug into the game a bit I see what they're doing here.

Being secretive about story content is one thing; being secretive about game mechanics is another entirely. They should be talking about what they intend to do about the complete lack of communication tools available in game, even if they have to admit that none of their plans to fix the problem will be ready to go at release.

And I still want someone to ask them who thought limiting exotics to one armor and one weapon was a good idea in a loot-centric game, instead of just throwing them softball questions all the time.

I sort of wish I'd bought a PS4 after seeing the lists of people on each platform, but I said I wouldn't give Sony a dime until they put DLNA back in the fucking OS and they are still dragging their feet on that one with nothing but vague promises. I don't see it being a big deal long-term though, as I fully expect Bungie to announce a PC version soon after the game's release, and the PS4 version would be just as useless to me as the PS3 version after the PC version is out.

Bungie : News

Interesting raid info - will c/p but quite long.

Q: I read somewhere that it took 45 minutes just to open the door to the Raid, what's the deal with that?

Luke: Sounds like that group (it was DeeJ's!) had some communication issues.

For the majority of Raid encounters, you're going to need to work as a group. That group of six is trying to form a metaphorical key which opens a given encounter's lock.

By design, we don't provide much in the way of information to groups in Raids. There aren't waypoints to follow, or objectives explaining what to do in a given situation.
Realistically, for many players, they'll be turning to the Internet for help on how to do a bunch of the Raid.

There's an old Bungie quote about not wanting players to go to the Internet to figure out solutions. That quote certainly wasn't about Raiding in Destiny.

We fully expect players to either publish strategy guides on the Internet or keep their group's secrets guarded close to the vest in an effort to keep their rewards even more exclusive.

Once your group understands how to open the Vault, it's not going to take anywhere near 45 minutes.

Q: What about the rumor that some "clan" spent 16+ hours playing the Raid and didn't beat it, what's the deal with that?

Luke: There's a whole bunch of missing information in that sentence. So let's just talk about that particular weekend.

In March 2014, we brought an organized clan of folks in to playtest the Raid. This would be one of the only times the Vault of Glass would be played by external participants.

These folks are shooter players, not -- for the most part -- Raiders from other games. They are a group of people used to working together primarily in competitive multiplayer games, and hadn't been exposed to an experience like this before.

We arranged the 24 visitors into four teams.

We put them through a pretty lengthy UR study, filmed them, datamined their adventures, and watched them play it live. Later, the Raid team spent a bunch of time watching player perspective films we captured during the day.

We did not offer them help, tips or tricks during their time here. We didn't clarify mechanics for them. We watched, listened and learned.

In two days of playing - where they broke for meals and had some ramp up time with the game on day 1, here's what happened:

Two groups made it to the final encounter. Neither group defeated it.

One group made it to the final encounter, but had to be skipped through an earlier encounter.

One group washed out and elected to go back to playing Strikes, Missions and Patrols.

With the goal of as many players beating the Normal Raid as were willing to organize, cooperate and communicate, we made a bunch of tuning changes through the rest of the Spring.

Q: A "Normal Raid?" What is that? How does difficulty work in Destiny Raids?

Luke: There are two difficulties for Raiding: Normal and Hard. Upon finishing a Raid on Normal, players can attempt the Hard-mode version of the Raid.

Normal mode is about learning the mechanics, working together as a team and building strategies to overcome the encounters.

For instance: I've gotten a handful of Bungie groups through the Raid on Normal, and you guys (the playerbase) are inevitably better at the game, smarter tacticians, and more clever than we are.

Hard modes demand execution.

In addition to deadlier combatants, tighter tuning windows for encounter mechanics and a handful of targeted differences, Hard-mode encounters leverage an even harsher death penalty than the Normal modes.

Were we to track things like World Firsts, we'd be verifying Hard-mode kills instead of completing the Raid on Normal.

Q: Seriously, how long will it take, I have a life.

Luke: Because we store your progress in a given week, you don't need to clear the activity in one-go. Your group could simply make your way into the Vault and call it an evening, reconvene later in the week and pick up where you left off.

However, your progress for the week is reset each Tuesday at the Weekly Reset.

Q: What's kind of loot will I get in the Raid?

Luke: Each class has an entire set of gear to chase across the two difficulties.

And of course, there are Raid weapons. Each of Destiny's nine weapon archetypes (Auto Rifle, Hand Cannon, Pulse Rifle, Fusion Rifle, HMG, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun and Scout Rifle) has a Legendary version that has been created specifically for the Raid.

The armor and weapons are completely unique to the Raid activity. They are visually and thematically connected to the combatants you'll fight in the Vault of Glass.

And of course, there are more rewards behind the Vault's door that we won't detail today.

Q: How does looting work in Destiny Raids?

Luke: The loot you get is private to you - just like the rest of the game.

Obtaining loot from a given encounter means that character is not eligible to receive loot from the same encounter again in a given calendar week. This is often referred to as a "Lockout."

I italicized "character" above, because if you have multiple Raid-ready characters, you can run the Raid again on a different character - and the Lockout isn't applied to it.

Each encounter has a fixed inventory of items it can award to players, e.g., certain pieces of gear or weapons can only drop from certain encounters.

Lockouts are cleared at the Weekly Reset.

And we will all cry together when little Johnny cries enough that they nerf it.
I don't know. Unlike MMOS, nobody is paying any kind of fee to continue playing this. What are they going to do, "quit" the game they already paid 60 bucks for like the rest of us? I think a game like this has a better chance of keeping the hard content actually hard.

Two DLCs already announced and available for purchase, and more sure to follow. Along with at least two more complete games and even more associated DLC. So I wouldn't be so sure about that. No one in the games industry is content with getting a mere $60 out of you anymore.

I'm still skeptical about the difficulty anyway. The only way I see it being truly hard is if they have deliberately overtuned it to be impossible in the first iteration so that they can see how close people get and then tone it down accordingly.

Having played a few MMOs, I find these loot detail laughable. It sounds like the raids have all the content of one Everquest dungeon.

Why would there need to be loot "lockout" if there is no trading? That sounds like an artificial way of stopping people from gearing up in like 2 days.

yeah best buy and gamestop are both running promos giving you minimum trade in values for newer models of ps3/360. Here is Best Buys ($120 for console + 2 controllers)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/xbox-one...at303600050004

and GameStop's:
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/pages/events/PS4-Trades/

you'll get $150 on a newer-ish 360/ps3 traded in towards a PS4, I think you can even trade in towards a destiny bundle. Not a bad deal, especially if there are some cheap new PS3's on black friday can maybe pick up a new model for $200 or less for PS+ free games.

So my xim4 came in yesterday evening and I spent all night playing with it. Here is my review.
Setup
Fairly easy to set up and directions are simple though make sure you plug it into your PS4's usb port if that is not obvious to you.

Issues
Touchpad passthrough does not work yet. A single click on the touchpad words but any kind of gestures require you to unplug the controller, perform the gesture, then plug it back in.Hope they fix that it is very annoying.totally prevents you from playing games like killzone where swiping is regularly necessary.

Make sure you get a mouse with hardware memory. I liked out in that the mouse I purchased had it so I could set it's sensitivity to max on my computer with it's mouse driver program before switching it to the xim4. You can increase the sensitivity on the xim4 directly so that might serve as a workaround.

Sensitivity
Each game seems to have its on sensitivity hard cap which you cannot exceed by ahh means. Ironically this cap appears to be non-existent or set extremely high in War frame allowing you to play as if you were using a mouse and keyboard.

In killzone I could turn the sensitivity up such that it required less mouse movement to turn around but I could not cause myself to turn around any faster then the maximum speed. Still I found it worked as advertised with a mouse and keyboard.

War frame
This game was a joy to play. In Warframes settings I was able to bind cycle power and fire power to button keys which in xim I could map to keyboard keys allowing me to skip touchpad functionality entirely. I was able to get precision shots with easy and was enjoying myself thoroughly with the keyboard and mouse.

Plants vs zombies garden warfare.
I wanted another FPS to play so I bought this game and using a slight modified War frame setup I was able to play it flawlessly. I was easily able to top the boards in pve mode even while I was learning the game.it just feels so natural to use a keyboard and mouse again that it took only seconds to find my rhythm again. Really looking forwarded to playing some PvP with this.

Overall I would say this does exactly what it says it does minus the touchpad issue. The sensitivity is hard capped for each game but I didn't even use the Mac sensitivity in War frame because it was to sensitive.

Is it cheating? Over your average player yes. Over your mlg type players you will still likely get your ass handed to you.

Well it get banned? Well I haven't see anyone banned for using one yet but Destiny is the first high profile game where it might matter. Certainly no one cared to do anything about it for bf4 and cod so we will see.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one having that issue on Killzone. I tried and tried and could not get it to work worth a shit with a mouse/keyboard. Maybe I'll actually give Warframe a try again, I was having issues with my controller not being 100% charged and the Xim not working properly because of it. FYI if you want to save some future asspain, if you have a keyboard that has backlighting (ie anything Logitech) plug it into your PC and manually turn the brightness all the way down to zero with the Logitech software before you use it with your Xim. The Xim can trickle charge controllers but if you have a keyboard with a lot of backlighting it'll cause problems. Also, with regards to your mouse issue, I'd suggest a mouse that has multiple on board settings. I have a Logitech G500 and have all 5 levels set to different DPI, so if a game isn't cooperating with the Xim I can cycle the configs via the mouse up or down depending on what's needed without having to change the Xim settings.

Edit: Also there's some beta firmware on the Xim forums, need to dig around to find it. Fixes some issues and updates support for certain keyboards, my G510 didn't work until I updated it.

You do realize that's what lockouts are for in every game, right?
