I believe people cannot right click and "request to join party" if you have quick join on. So turning it off makes announcing availability smoother.
Oh, maybe thats it. I don't really know as I haven't fucked around to test it.

Right, did my first RIF last night, after joining the huge community.

Buddy and I were doing runs, and thought hey, why not get these for free. Makes it super easy, to just accept the first 2 people, and spam decline the rest of the requests for invite. Great system, and great way to farm shards.

Played twice this weekend, both times less than 5 people in clan had open games, down from 3 pages of people. Either everyone is grouping now instead of playing solo or a lot less are playing. I was pretty bored but I suspect that had a lot to do with playing solo as opposed to being grouped.
In general it is bad manner to have quick join open if you're engaged in RIF. For that reason I took my quick join down. I'm sure since it is gained popularity in the guild others are the same.

I usually avoid people that have less than 3 open slots because I suspect they're doing exactly what you're doing. The bargain is a guardian kill for your 1.666666 frags.

Besides not allowing guild/friends to get in quick (and thus making it a more equal chance for every other person in the RIF), what's the downside?

Time to start looking for a new game. The loot I want just isnt dropping for me, with no way to trade or craft I have to just cross my fingers and hope they drop? I did rifts nonstop the past 7 days on my WD and not a single fucking thing, to the point where its made me bitter and unable to enjoy the game.

Cya next patch.

Yeah thats kinda how it is - legendaries dont quite feel so legendary, most of them suck and some doing have a point at all except more stats than rares. All legendaries should feel.....legendary and serve some purpose. Instead you can play for hours, days, weeks without getting anything you wont in turn salvage.

I *believe* it is because you can get more than 3 people trying to join your game but only have 3 slots allowed. So a bunch of people will join, the game will load but then error out saying the party is full. I don't know the exact reason but it is just a rule I follow.

Going to be away from the game for awhile, might be off or on a bit but not seriously. If a spot is required please remove me.

I'm starting to feel a bit of burnout too

Been trying to get a Mirrorball for so long but no luck so far. Set pieces are refusing to drop for me. Same with RRoG. Rifts are starting to get a bit repetitive with little change in layout. Spent around 30mill gold in gems trying to reroll the critical damage stat on my amulet without success is soul crushing.

Very possibly going to take a leave of absence soon.

How does Marvel Heroes compare? (serious question)

Marvel Heroes will scratch your ARPG itch. It is a very good game with less of a gear grind. The engine, however, feels amateur compared to Diablo 3's. There is very little satisfaction in killing in MH. But it is a very, very good game.

-edit-

Unless you're huge into min/max. In that case the gear grind in MH may be ever worse than D3's. But you can slot your hero in full uniques in MH in around a weeks time.

I've been loosely following the thread the past couple weeks so can someone explain what RIF is and how it works?

Maybe not the original intent of RIF, to not offer 3 slots, but why is it bad? I can't tell if your implying I'm hurting the system for only giving out 2 slots, or saying I'm a cheap bastard, and just trying to get free rifts for my 2 instead of 3 slots.

RIF = Rift it Forward. If you click on communities it is the #2 community I believe.

Basically you have runners and openers. Runners do what you expect. They run the rift. They announce in the community chat when the rift guardian (rg in chat usually) is up. Along with this announcement you will give two pieces of information out: the torment level and who opens the next rift. In RIF the runners get free rift opens at the cost of letting openers into the game. So if I pop a RG I'll say something like: T2. Lowest opens. Req inv. Req inv means "request invite" in other words "don't send me a tell just request invite in the UI."

There are a few main options for selecting the next opener: highest paragon level in the game (minus yourself), lowest paragon in the game (minus yourself), last in. These are generally the big three. Lowest paragon and last in being the two most common. If you are the one selected to open the next rift you just open it for the runner then leave. Thats it.

So essentially the benefit is, if you are a runner, you will open 1 rift and then continue to run them over and over again for free, because 1 of the 3 people you invite everytime a guardian spawns will theoretically open a new rift for you? What happens if people don't leave, you just kick them? What happens if everyone leaves and no one has opened a new rift? Does that happen often?

I haven't had anyone not open a rift for me yet but I also have only done maybe 20. It can and does happen. Generally you try and announce it in the community chat so people can block them. But the way community chat works is it is just a bunch of chat channels of 100-200 people or something. So when there are 4k people in the community you aren't really exposing this person at all. You pretty much rely that if the person has taken the time to join the community they won't mind spending the 5 fragments. Since it takes like 2 minutes to run an a1 normal split to get 5 frags.

Since the NA RIF community is "open" you can't ban people from the community. The EU RIF is "private" so they can be banned if they refuse to open.

I'd say I've ran / leeched over 100 runs in the last week and only had a problem once with a guy that didn't open the rift (went offline). I never encountered someone trying to talk themselves out of, refuse to leave the game or cause any type of problems.

Should also note that there are still some pretty bad crash bugs in the game and especially on the Mac client. So just because someone goes offline when they should pay doesn't mean they're exactly the worst person in the world. They could have just crashed.
