Was it really an upset? To me the only team in an unexpected place is Mineski/EHome.
Of course its an upset, Newbee has not been good since ti4 at all. However, they are still a top 16 team in the world. That was the first game those Peru kids have ever taken off an international team. Don't diminish their accomplishment. The first players of their region to do anything in International Dota. Mineski is a good story, but their region has had top 3 placings at TI. We'll see what happens tomorrow because they are just two series loss in a row from going out in 9-12th which is better than perhaps expected but not some Cinderella story yet. Ehome also has Lanm - who has placed highly at multiple TI events.

Damn, I was scared that Secret might lose with EEmber and W33ranger, now I feel silly.

Lol @ people who thought Mineski had a shot at winning.

Its not an upset because it wasn't an unlikely outcome, it was a reasonable one. oth Mineksi is largely players unknown internationally and took a game off CDEC, destroyed EHome twice and challenged Secret.

Iceiceice gonna Iceoceice

Sure the format is new and players / trams aren't 100% comfortable, but to say it is no big deal because it is only $3M is some dumb shit. Gotta be just him doing his bored shtick.
He's trolling a bit, but also has realistic expectations, VG and CDEC are the only two teams I see placing in top 4, the rest have too many holes in their play and so far there doesn't seem to be a new meta anyone could exploit and not even those 2 look invincible. China seems to have trouble replacing old talent, neither Xiao8 nor YYF/Zhou are making an appearance this tournament, so of course ppd/Puppey are going to blow them to bits. I actually have a bit more faith in CDEC since their teamplay is among the best, so they might be outdrafted, but still play better.

Seeing Aggressif still dominant on PL shows just how good that team is at early teamfight and how hero's like that are balanced but most carries dont like to be active early like him...so you dont see him played.

VP still plays this pocket Drow strat better than anyone.

Also funny they say every team is taking 1st pick since it also gives you last pick. This might need to change.

In game 2 I felt like VPreallybenefitted from some good RNG. Like there was a gank from Spirit Breaker at top on QoP, and it was chain bashes. There was also a team fight not too long after that where they really had some ridiculous RNG.

I feel like that's where the game really took a huge turn to VP's favor. They were still ahead of VG at that point anyway, but I think that sealed it for them.

VP throwing this game. Fucking retards.

Its like typical CIS dota, play well, get a lead then herpderp try to ragekill everyone and lose multiple fights. G chasing Visage then Lina and gets kited while his team dies, same as them trying to go bot lane and diving tier 4s early in the game. All they had to do was wait for next Roshan.

They have skilled players to be a top tier team but their decision making is always awful and they throw their leads away constantly. Reminds me of older EG teams.

Abaddon, what a hero.
Other than perhaps a couple early saves I don't think he did much. To me it seemed like the issue was they had one farmed core who had to worry about 3-cores, maybe if they'd safelaned Queen from the start ES would have been zoned out harder and QoP could have had early levels & farm.

I never noticed that LaNaM looks like Spock / generic Vulcan before.

Peru takes SF, Dazzle, Nightstalker, Ember Spirit, Windranger.

I know I'm noob but this looks like an all pick pub game I'd be playing in.

He makes your cores really hard to kill and usually enables some kind of reaction due to the shield dispell, while being impossible to kill in less than 5-6 seconds. There's also the amplify damage/meld strike removal, which reduces all following physical damage. G2 he gives a chance for your non-cores to survive the Tiny combo, which would wreck SS otherwise. Since he isn't played, I think they underestimated him a lot. They should have picked up something like Brew, who can neatly remove him from every teamfight, Slardar never felt like he did much in both games besides enabling more damage, which was, once again, negated by the shield.
