I'm going to assume that's what he was doing. It gave him a huge advantage over the rest of us.
Don't worry man, you'll learn it all in time. Starting out fresh in Dota is a pretty tough thing to do and you'll lose more than you win; just how it goes. Eventually - if you stick with it - you'll know every hero, every ability of every hero, and ever item.

In the grand scheme of things, Bloodseeker is a weak hero and one of the worst "carries". His primary role is to gank and if he gets ahead (like Kyougou was saying) he can snowball and then carry. But in the higher skill brackets he gets his shit pushed in because there are many, many stronger heroes and knowledable players.

At the end of the day, almost every hero can be "OP" and rape a team.

So since I've started playing I've been watching a lot of Purge videos on Youtube. One thing I've noticed, his UI is different. Are these videos from a previous patch or build of Dota? Because my shop and stats look nothing like the ones in his videos. Is this game customizable like Valve's other games at all?

They did UI update like 9 months ago IIRC, but right now you can customize the UI graphics with your own files.

There's a button at the top of your shop which switches the look between tiled (lots of items, no titles) and detailed (few items, many tabs, item names)

I posted this on the dota 2 dev forums and it was locked within an hour..

"After playing dota for the last 10 ish years, I'm about ready to stop. At least back in the TDA days you had random players on your team who knew what they were doing. Statistically the match making process is great, you should average around 50/50, but that's the problem. Wins and losses are due to team stacking. When its your time to win, everyone who is any good is placed on a team, but when it comes time to lose you get people who don't even know what their abilities do. In both cases this makes for a boring game. I don't want to win with a stacked team and I don't want to lose with the other team being stacked. At this moment the only way you can truly enjoy yourself is pre-made 5v5's with players who you know."

My feeling is that the match making formula applies a rating to each player then attempts to even the teams, then somehow gives one side a better edge depending on their wins/losses. With any type of gaming, if you lose all of the time you will quit, so they can't really make it completely even can they?

It's been locked cause there's like a 150pages mega thread about matchmaking already, where a ton of people complain about team stacking, uneven matches and whatever the fuck not. Fact is, you play any matchmaking game solo in a team based game, you'll lose half your games or close to. It doesn't have to do with the system trying to keep you down even though you're the 2nd coming of baby jesus and have perfect micro skills, it's just the way it is on large numbers. Once you win a few times, your rating goes up, you get matched against better players WITH better players(in rating), and then if you lose it simply means you're at your actual rating.

Yes sometimes the matches are uneven, because the system can't take into account every factor or people with inflated ratings because they got lucky a few times before. That doesn't mean the system purposefully tries to fuck you over whenever you win more than 2 games in a row, that's fucking retarded thinking. It doesn't try to artificially keep you at 50% win rate, that's just how it's gonna even out eventually once you get to your intended rating and until you improve. Because when pitting 2 teams of the exact same skills, the win/loss ratio is 50% anyway.

The only decent point about current's dota2 matchmaking is allowing premade stacks to queue with/against solo players as that tends to fuck up the numbers. They'll probably fix it once they have enough players to sustain both a solo and a group matchmaking queue.

Going to go out on a limb and say it purposely ques you with brain dead retards if you win multiple games in a row, this happens to me all the time actually. Play with a stack of friends get in to the 'very high' skill bracket, solo que in same said bracket, however every single one of my team mates are in the Normal skill bracket while all opponents are in the very high. This has happened on multiple occasions, actually so much that my once 56% win rating is now down to 49%, which is quite a large swing considering the 700 games I've played.

Your stack of friends is carrying you to a higher rating than your skill level, then you get pummeled back down when you queue solo. Sorry, bro. Truth hurts.

Since this has happened on multiple occasions, I'm sure you can dig out at least one example. Go on, we'll wait.

Give us the match ID if you want people to give you more specific tips.
The hell?.. Matches are recorded? Seems every time I play another match, watch another video and check this thread I'm learning more and more shit about this game.
I'm still trying to figure out what I'm best at, just not the hero but what role to play. Something I've noticed very quickly that even though playing against bots is a great way to learn and practice a role/hero but it leaves out the teamwork portion of the game. Bots are..well bots. The real matches I have played there's no communication, and the ones where people have talked it's in russian.

I'm pretty comfortable with a handful of heroes now. Drow, gyrocopter, and viper. Been toying with Zeus and Bloodseeker but not too much experience with them yet.
I've been reading this thread about the comments towards Meepo and watching Purge play him, I'm kind of intrigued and want to try him. I've always been more inclined to play the "busy" role in other games, Meepo seems to be the micro manage type hero which I like. Though I'm sure if I play him in a real match I'll just get my ass handed to me repeatedly and piss off the "elitists".

I think one of the best heros to stomp with is now gyrocopter. I grouped with some people yesterday and was matched against people with 100 wins and stomped. You just level your third skill and whenever you attack a creep or deny, it hits everyone within 1000 range (which is very large) for 3/4/5/6 hits. Pretty much gives you free harass and they can't do much about it, even if they try to stay back. And if they try to kill you just use rocket barrage as it does like 300 dmg at the first level. I was solo vs tiny / kotl in my hard lane but got a double kill on them.

And speaking of replays, if you wanted to watch it you could go to watch - recent games - then filter on a persons name. Then just click download replay for the match and do player perspective.

But don't play meepo, not until a long while or until you can first play Chen / enchantress / lone Druid well.

Gyro certainly isn't for new people, no escape and no reliable CC means that unless you are consistently in position, you will get your ass handed to you.

Replays - every single matchmaking game is recorded and if you open your recent games there's match ID in top left corner.

You cannot say something about your teammates is for sure when this game involves 10 random people every game. I will agree that I seem to have streaks of wins and then a few losses in a row where I have BRs, noobs, or bad play to account for.

You cannot possibly say what "skill level" someone is. I have a bad game sometimes but I feel I'm a good player. Some games I get outplayed and look like shit. Frustration effects a person's play. Maybe that teammate that is shitty just had 3 bad games in a row, is frustrated and probably shouldn't be playing, but wants to win one before they get off, but they just play like shit.

It is a little more apparent when you have BRs spamming the mic to blame all BRs, but I'm sure some are silent and do well too.

Though I will continue to blame BRs, noobs, and fag tryhard tri-laners for all my losses, but the reality of it isn't true and stating it as fact on the forums doesn't change that.

Pubs I blame 99% of losses due to wards / no tps
And there are no wards/TPs because they're all: noobs, BRs, Russians, or fat, greasy, virgin, basement-dwelling, rage nerds.

This topic really is a double-edged sword, however (MMR). I'd like to know what it is, but if I find out, I'll put too much emphasis on it and so will everyone else, making the community even worse. All OJ and Brown players are the lowest MMR? Must mean they are total shit, shouldn't talk, and never carry!!!! Yeah, don't feel like that again.

My stack of friends consist of a couple players who have been playing the game for <2 months and another that's been playing for roughly 5 months they're not bad players by any means, it's just I don't think that's the scenario.

Check my play history, it's not letting me search match ID's, I played mirana, went 12-2 rest of the team had 2 or 3 kills and then the puck afk/abandoned.

The best example I can think of to support the crushing victory/loss theory is one game I played we were against very good players, constant coordinated smoke ganks, wards all over the map, dewarding our wards, good coordination etc. We lost pretty quickly, the next game I go mid as TA and get first blood because the puck I was laning against didn't move out of Psi blades after 5 attacks. I then went like 20-5 and we crushed them. It's either one or the other.
