looks trash.
its hard to clearly articulate why. Like, the one good thing I see in that trailer is the scout dwarf using magic and being scared and confused. theres a potentially compelling story there.
The rest is, a highly polished turd. Video game form of all like the marvel movies. epic moment!, epic moment!, epic moment! super high budget cgi, voice acting etc. but the underlying charcters and story fucking sucks.

All I was thinking while watching that is "Damn. They must have really fussed at that tranny a lot for him to change everything to be representative of the real world." Not that that makes it any better, but it doesnt look so fucking forced now. Compared to the old trailer for Suicide Squad Veilguard. They didnt show much of the combat, but it still looks like the same complete dog shit.
If it peaks my interest at all later on, Ill boot leg it. But I doubt Ill ever buy this.

I'd argue since ME1. I don't even think ME2 is quite in the "great" category to be honest. It's good, but definitely not quite "great".
They tried to pivot to the "Gears of War" craze of cover shooters at the time, which made certain builds totally shit and others completely OP. The whole "save a squad mate" shit that permiates the entire game is cool for certain back stories like Tali, but it starts getting tiresome quick.
Then there is the fact that Harbinger and the Illusive Man are faaaar lamer foils than Saren and Sovereign were.
I argue ME2 is right around where the rot started at BioWare.

yeah, just rehashing old discussions. ME 1 had tons of problems, that all just inexplicably came together into a fantastic whole.
But also, just like Dragonage origins, me1 >me2 contained this massive shift from tactial Crpg, to first person action shooter.
The periodic cycle. Crpgs get popular. they hit just enough popularity to touch the mainstream. Crpgs die as they all convert to consoles, and action rpgs lite. see, fallout, mass effect dragonage, Elder scrolls, fable, diablo, etc, versus ultima, might and magic, etc..
seeing it again with Avowed, outer worlds, BG3 and others.
hard crpgs like pathfinder, wasteland, etc barely break 1m. BG3 isn't going to transition console and lite rpg players to turn based crunchy rpgs, its going to cause studios like Obsidian, owlcat, and indies to go towards lighter rpgs.

The gunplay in ME1 was subpar, but biotics actually being fun to use more than made up for it. I hated what they did to biotics in 2 & 3, Vanguard Charge was the only fun ability and everything else was garbage compared to tech unless you played on game journalist difficulty.

ME2 was a great game, but I agree that there were parts of ME2 that were early signs of the issues at Bioware.

As one of the people who was criticizing ME2 before it was cool, seeing everyone turn on it has left me with no choice but to switch sides.
ME2 was a great experience and it wasn't until ME3 shit on everything that people started going back towards ME2 with an overly critical eye. Except maybe Vorph, that dude's capacity for complaining about video games is peerless.

Yes but this more than made up everything else.

But yeah, ME2 had all the normal "middle trilogy" problems but the gameplay and UX was very good compared to the original.

I agree that combat in ME1 was mostly shit...in retrospect.
You have to remember the context of the time period though. For its day, it had pretty decent gameplay, marred by an atrocious UI.
Like Vorph said, ME1 had at least decently fun/interesting gameplay and a lot of that combat system was an obvious evolution of what they had used in KotOR.
But nothing else matters except for the fact that Sovereign gives one of the greatest antagonist speeches ever uttered in a video game(it shows how great Sovereign was, because that's all anyone remembers, despite Saren being a pretty great bad guy as well). Plus, I got to nuke Kaiden's gay ass while I escaped with my main ho Ashley. And The Faunts song as the credits hit will always be one of my greatest video game memories ever.

ME1 was good at the time, for what it was. The gameplay is fucking atrocious now though it's like witcher 1 level bad.
I don't get why people get mad when gameplay is improved. It's not like it changed Genres from top down isometric group based CRPG to some looter shooter or something. ME1 was a shooter, a really bad one, then it got better as a shooter in ME2. hell ME3 was yet another improvement, as a shooter.
Yeah it went more towards a cover shooter instead of bullet sponge COD type shit but since you are roleplaying as a dude and not a fucking terminator then yeah you best believe you would be ducking behind shit and not just taking bullets to the face non-stop.

The only good thing about all this is that since it's an EA game it'll trickle down to the Game Pass tier of EA Play before too terribly long and it'll be playable with zero investment. Hell, they might even patch it a couple times by then too.
Did you not play the Legendary Edition? ME1's shooting was vastly improved.
The offices here in Edmonton are/usedto be right smack dab in the middle hobo land, so I make a point to piss on it whenever I go to the casino/arena.
If I had to work around there, I'd make shitty games too. It's like they had to find an office that gave maximum exposure to the dregs of humanity as a reminder lol.
