If their goal was only 3 million, then that suggests internally they had relatively low expectations to begin with. I have to imagine the game cost a lot to develop/market/etc

50% miss on sales is massive bomb. Like this might really be it for Bioware.

Here's a link not behind a paywall

Estimated total budget is around $200-250M (including marketing). Yes, 3 million in sales is too low to recoup your budget, so 3 millions might be the revised estimate already.

It's high for a woke game, but it was riding on the franchise's reputation. I imagine the normal gamers who slogged through the fugly characters and the forced queer cinematics have now probably removed all future Dragon Age from their wishlists.

Uh Edmonton was Bioware was it not?

I know they opened up a "bioware" division in Texas for Star Wars: The Old Republic but that was bioware in name only, had a bunch of SWG people working there, and they've been shuttered and TOR got turned over to some other company to run it, battleaxe or some shit (Broadsword)

So if they are shuttering edmonton they are literally shuttering Bioware. I'm sure the brand name will still be owned by EA but they'll wisely stash that shit in the vaults for a decade until the stench is off of it and then roll out a Mass Effect franchise reboot in like 10-15 years using the name for the memberberries clout alone

I figured the corpse of bioware would lumber on, like Blizzard does, a rotting shell of its former self, but if they are really going to close edmonton then they aren't even going to have someone wear the name like a skinsuit, they are straight up old yeller'ing it

Credit where credit is due: single-handedly wiping more than 20% off your multinational parent company's market cap is a pretty impressive achievement.

Fans were telling them for months no one was going to buy a video game full of tranny garbage but they stuck to their guns. Only themselves to blame.

I mean, even without the tranny SJW garbage - the game is mechanically different from previous iterations of Dragon Age by a large margin. The combat is garbage and D tier at best, and the look and "feel" of the cosmetics in the game are atrocious. ... It was just all around terrible. Even though you had your own main character to design, if you cant associate with anything you're doing or seeing in the world - how can you ever connect to it and imagine yourself being there and seeing these things?

DA is being lumped in there, and by their own official numbers showed it flopped(they say 1.5m reach, which isn't even 1.5m sold so likely includes a good amount of free access via EA shit and family sharing and what not and that's apparently half of what they expected which is what DA:I sold many years ago). That's a very shit number for the franchise and the game cost them a lot most likely.

But ultimately they wouldn't lose 15% in stock value over just that, the biggest issue is the lower profits on their FIFA MTX shit(it's called FC25 now cause they don't have FIFA licensing anymore but same thing) which is what's actually generating the most money for the company. It's 2b a year worth of revenue, so when they announce the last one didn't do so well, that causes issues. Obviously fumbling 200m or whatever on DA probably didn't help but if the football cards MTX gambling shit didn't take a nosedive because the new version of the slot machine is shittier than the previous one, there likely wouldn't have been a blip on their stocks.

The FIFA license is $250m per year, and has actually not a lot in it. For player names and likenesses you have to have separate licensing with FIFPRO--except for leagues that are not part of FIFPRO, like the German Bundesliga, which have separate deals of course.

Suddenly 2 billion dollars a year isn't that much, and losing the FIFA license may have been a blessing. EA FC25 was in fact so bad that IGN, the site known for their 7/10 reviews, actually gave it a 6/10
