Got into the persistent Closed Beta for this. Hoping to get some time with it tomorrow.
Wrong thread, somehow. Still hungover I guess.

Let us know what you think after you play it a bit.

Im not sure why theyre calling it an MMO tbh - NW is more an MMO than this id say. No dong slider iirc but I didnt look for it lol

I think it’s more important to have interconnected politics and economy than sheer player counts in an area, in that way it’s more of an MMO than NW.

Yeah I forgot everyone be labeling multiplayer games as massive multiplayer online games these days. This is Funcom's way of wrapping their greedy hands around something they can monetize, as they tried it with Conan Exiles and a battle pass. This a survival game right down to starting in the fucking dunes, collecting rocks, and drinking water from plants.

I wouldnt even be checking this on release as it doesn't fit the bill for my MMO tastes and ive already gotten my fill of Ark and Conan Exiles.

I would beg to differ. I would argue traditional MMORPGs are dead and these massively multiplayer survival games are the next evolution.

No activity here in a long time. I almost don't recall much about it other than being dune and mmo. For those that don't check your emails much you might want to check for funcom emails.

Lol yeah no, that is not a thing happening in the industry. This is simply Funcoms attempt at heavily monetizing conan exiles with a new name.

Some patch notes

Highlights

  • Demolishing building pieces and placeables now refunds all of the materials used (now also outside of the Hagga Basin including the Deep Desert), except for Sub-Fief consoles which only refund 50%. Note that the refunded value will be lower if the buildable demolished is at lower health.
  • Contracts have been moved out of the backpack and into the Journey. They also have had many improvements made all around and are easier to keep track of now.
  • New cinematic moments now play when you equip your first stillsuit and craft your first bike!
  • Converted Atreides Window 03 to a new big Window in rectangular style.
  • Visit friends on other servers in your World! The Friend Menu has an option "Visit friend". If you are in Hagga Basin, and your friend is on another Hagga Basin server, you can travel to your friend's Hagga Basin server. And back via an option in the main menu.
  • Updated the way durability loss is calculated on Literjons and Blood Sacks to scale based on the amount of liquid being removed. For example, if only 1 mL is removed from the container, the durability loss will scale downwards to that.
  • AI frame generation and upscaling in the video settings are now disabled by default. If you didn't customize your video settings, you will get both AI frame generation and upscaling disabled in this update. To enable them back:
    • Navigate to the "Graphics" tab and Change your Graphics Quality Setting to "Custom". Locate "Anti Aliasing & Upscalers" and change from TSR (Default) to your preferred Anti Aliasing and Upscaling Method.
    • Locate the "Frame Generation" option and Enable it by choosing either FSR3 or DLSS (Nvidia 40xx series GPU)
    • If you want to keep using TSR - which is now the default Anti Aliasing Method - you can adjust the in-game performance by navigating to the "Display" tab and increase or decrease the "Screen Percentage" option.
  • Some Test of Aql caves have been relocated to provide a better Journey flow across Hagga Basin South.
    • Old Test of Aql Caves have been turned into abandoned ones.
    • The Sietch has been relocated to better support the new Journey progression. The old Sietch is now part of a Contract.
  • We have updated the nomenclature for the in-game servers (i.e. from Dimension 0, to "Sietch Abbir").
  • Technical and Stability
As a quick fix for the server crash when you are traveling in an Ornithopter with a harnessed vehicle, we are temporarily disabling the harnessed vehicle travel while working on the full fix.
    Resources, Building, and Crafting
We are continuing to introduce no-building zones for roads leading to important points of interest. In this update, we added no-building zones for the roads to all trading posts in Hagga Basin.
Existing bases in those locations are not affected by the newly introduced no-building zones.
We might populate some of these areas with environmental props, which could overlap with existing buildings.
If you are affected by the change, we recommend you relocate your bases.
Updated the colors and visual representation of fuel container loot objects. The main color of the bars will be yellow to represent power and the "lootable" color has been added to highlight this object as a lootable.
Converted Atreides Window 03 to a new big Window in rectangular style.
It is now possible for base owners to abandon their bases through an interaction available on the base’s map marker, this action will delete the Sub-Fief console and leave everything else in place to be claimed by others.
    • Updated building piece snapping priorities with the goal of making it easier to build at a greater distance and also more responsive.
    • Improved the sorting of items listed in the building tool for everything except decoration. Items are now grouped by type and sorted according to when they appear in progression and how commonly they are used.
    • Demolishing building pieces and placeables now refunds all of the materials used (now also outside of the Hagga Basin including the Deep Desert), except for Sub-Fief consoles which only refund 50%. Note that the refunded value will be lower if the buildable demolished is at lower health.
    • Building costs in the PvP areas of the deep desert have been reduced by 50%.
    • Placeable menus are now ordered by Placeable Name → Additional tabs (Storage, Water etc) → General settings.
    • Placeable prompts are now properly ordered from top to bottom: Use → Quick Deposit (if applicable) → Manage.
    • The manage interaction on placeables now open the ‘General Settings’ tab.
    • Added more stat fields to item cards for building sets (Health) and several placeables including wind traps (water gather rate, capacity), storage containers (volume and slots), water cisterns (capacity).
    • Owned customizations for vehicles and items can now be checked in the Customization menu even if you don't own an eligible item.
    • Combat

      Skills

      • You can now equip skills on the Skill Tree UI.
      • Skill Targeting and Activation standardization, refactored several skills to have a similar casting patterns; click-release for quick activation and click-hold for targeted activation. Quick activation will also consider your soft-lock target.
      • Grenades that land near you will be now visualized on the HUD with an icon.
      • Mines can now detonate on proximity to non-party-member characters or trigger by the deploying character.
      • Quicksand will now block ability usage.
      • Crippling Strike
        • Will no longer prevent ability use on targets.
      • Litany Against Fear
        • Other abilities can now be used while Litany Against Fear is active.
        • Duration has been increased from 7s/10s/12s to 12s/14s/16s.
        • Damage reduction increased from 35%/35%/35% to 50%/65%/75%
        • Support for Poise Damage Reduction has been added and set to 35%.
        • Audio update to the skill.
      • Battle Cry
        • Effect was not applying to allies, this has been fixed.
        • VFX Updates.
      • Voice Stop
        • Camera Adjustment for targeting and casting.
Lots more, patch was huge.

I've been playing this quite a bit. I'm not a big survival/Crafting guy but I've enjoyed this. The scale of Arrakis and some of the visuals are awesome. Combat is "ok" at best, but some polish would go a long way.

They're finally dishing out two Friends keys for testers, so that's nice.

Is the only way to play currently with a friends key or are tester keys still purchasable?

Closed Beta invite from Funcom, or a Friends key from someone already in beta. It sounds like an Open Beta of sorts in coming sooner than later.
