1: The movement is fine, I think it's based more on Sekiro now rather than Souls. You're faster moving and much more agile, and platforming is actually fun, finally. Someone who cut their teeth on Souls and doesn't like Sekiro might have issues with it though.

2: The white letters were a stupid mistake, I'll give him that one.

3: The open world environment is simultaneously the best and worst thing about this game. I love that you can go anywhere, and I'm constantly discovering new places. If I started a new game, knowing what I know now, I could get OP pretty fast by just going to certain places way before I'm supposed to and grabbing certain items. Sorta like you could do with Catacombs in Souls 1, except times 100. However, the bad side of the open world environment is that you often don't know how to progress. I spun my wheels for about 10 hours in the mid-game before I checked a guide to find out where to go next and proceeded to annihilate Raya Lucaria and Volcano Manor since by then I was way overleveled for them. I'd say the best thing to do if this is an issue is to just have a barebones list on hand that tells you where you're supposed to go for the main quest and in what order. So if you ever feel like you aren't progressing, refer to that and get pointed in the right direction.

How did you not know to go to Raya Lucaria? The Grace sites lead you to every major dungeon.

Start area points to Stormveil
Eastern Limgrave points down to Morne Castle
Southern Liurnia points to Raya Lucaria
Northern/Western Liurnia points to Carian Manor

etc.

Although I guess not much points you directly to the Volcano place. I only have a site up there due to a hilarious teleport.

If I switch my Godskin Peeler from Keen to Blood for the buildup effect, plus the Darth Maul enchant, what else can I do to boost the bleeding effects? Any particular accessory or something I'm not thinking of?

I know there's one twinblade with built-in bleed buildup that'd probably be able to get quite a bit higher than the Godskin Peeler, but it's too late now since my upgrade mats have all gone into the GP. The GP is really, really good regardless, so I'm fine with that.

I've got a keen Godskin twinblade now with B scaling for Dex. Still wondering if I should switch to a Bleed twinblade and take the DPS hit in hopes that I'll get some huge bleed procs. I'm using the enchant that causes hemorrhaging but I'm not sure if it's actually working.

Most of all I want to finish upgrading my weapon, but you can't get the mats for that until like one of the final areas.
Bleed build = arcane (with a side of faith for dragon incants). Use Seppuku ash but switch it to Occult instead of Bleed affinity for better scaling, and the Seppuku buff gives you all the bleed build up you need.

Fighting Cowboy has a good video about it. If you want to focus mostly on the weapon you can ignore the parts where he goes into detail about the dragon spells. I'd definitely use Swarm of Flies no matter what though.

The Raya Lucaria door was sealed, and it didn't look like a key situation, so I figured it'd unseal later after I beat some particular boss, and left. Little did I know, there's a key, and it's like 600 feet away in the swamp somewhere. It was that easy the whole time.

Did you miss the lootable body right next to the south gate? It tells you exactly where the key is.

Yes, it's retarded. It's like the guy whose entire sense of humor is quoting Family Guy.

"OMG HAHAH FAKE WALL!!@ fort, NIGHT!! HAHHA"
Wow; sounds like you need to try finger but hole.

This is my first 'souls game' so I have no direct comparison, but the buddy of mine who compelled me to get the game finally installed it himself yesterday and is extremely disappointed by how they "ruined it".

His specific comments include :

  • Unrealistic movement especially including jumping and overall movement speed -- he especially liked how the characters moved in the older games apparently.
  • Using white letters for messages as they used to be bright orange and now are easily confused with points of interest.
  • Dislike the open world environment where there's no indication of where to go as the former 'souls' games had a hub and spoke design.

Is there any validity to his complaints or is he just being salty?
Send this to you buddy:

its not amazing damage wise but i'm still rolling my hour 1 darth maul build, twin blades weapon on right + keys on left + bloodflame spell to get the spell effect. I think you can upgrade the weapon with Eleonars Blade later and keep the same vibe but I haven't looked into exactly how to get that yet

only downside is no block so you're just a rolling faggot

I read that Eleonars Blade and other arcane weapons have no weapon scaling due to a bug currently. Not sure if that excludes them from being good at later levels or not.

Teleporter traps are easy to avoid though, just pay attention when you’re opening them and if smoke starts to come out just back away.
Nice! Never thought of trying that! Almost as bad as when I was 15 hours in and discovered you could sprint while on foot.

I agree with the second one. Stopped reading messages a while ago because about 75% of them were misinformation. Like every goddamn wall has a "fake wall" message in front of it. Makes me want to play offline entirely. This is the cost of the game being wildly popular though, all the lowest common denominator people are pouring in.
Don't know if it would work or how well but have you tried finding a helpful community that has a password then setting the game to that communities password to filter out the messages?

What weapon skills tho?

I guess what I'm really wondering is whether a hybrid build is gimped because if you're casting you're not swinging your weapon, but I don't know if there aren't like, mid-tier spells that really help a weapon swinging class.

Maybe what I really need to do is play a pure caster first to learn the casting system in the game so I can build a non-retarded hybrid build.

Maybe I'll just do a bleed dex build for now!!
That really is just personal preference, whatever feels good is fine. So far my faith/str build has 2 offensive abilities and the rest are support. Might swap to power stance those 2 colossal blades and try that out but so far the long swords do insane damage if they not resistant to holy.

I was wondering how that password stuff works.

If you use a password, you then only see multiplayer stuff from anyone else using that password? And you can have ~5 passwords at the same time?

So you could effectively cull the multiplayer population down to an aggregate of 4-5 communities of non-asshats? Do I have that right?

I end up playing offline half of the time because the PS5 sleep function results in the game coming back in offline mode when you fire it back up. Never want to spend the time restarting the game so I just roll with it.

Any cool looking light armor? Doesn’t seem to make a difference what the stats are, so might as well find something cool so i don’t look like a retarded hobo nun

They patched the stuttering on day 2 or 3. I don’t know if that cured everyone but I don’t have it anymore.

I also did these things. All simple, took a couple minutes to do them all. I actually turned all the graphics setting to maximum yesterday and it runs great still. That’s going to be dependent on your pc build though I’m sure.

Well it's running better after I did those tips but I still experience a stutter here and there. I guess it's something I have to deal with on PC until Fromsoft comes out with a fix. Anyway playing the game in 3440x1400 resolution with everything turned up is pure bliss for me. I started fresh on my PC and I took the same route and it blows my mind I'm still finding new shit in this play through. I'm reading some of the posts in this thread and I have no clue what you guys are talking about but I can't wait to find out!
