What weapon skills tho?

I guess what I'm really wondering is whether a hybrid build is gimped because if you're casting you're not swinging your weapon, but I don't know if there aren't like, mid-tier spells that really help a weapon swinging class.

Maybe what I really need to do is play a pure caster first to learn the casting system in the game so I can build a non-retarded hybrid build.

Maybe I'll just do a bleed dex build for now!!

The most obvious hybrid build is something that uses a basic (upgraded) weapon and then buffs it with magic. That allows you to have both str/dex and int scaling for your attacks.

Fextralife has a lot of build videos, their most recent one on spellswords or whatever is probably what you're looking for. Rapier wrecking.

You don't roll on the button press, you roll after the release. Its fucking retarded.

I keep seeing this complaint, but it's been a feature since Demon's Souls. I'm pretty sure the iframes start immediately, and I've never had any issues dodging shit, personally.

Thats the way its always worked. You can't roll on button press because holding circle makes you sprint. It was always button release. But there seems to be some input lag there that I never noticed before now.

You talking about

ELDEN RING MAGUS BUILD

A melee-mage Build that uses Scholar's Armaments and Glintstone Phalanx to deal Critical Damage to enemies.
The way this Build works is that you'll buff your Rapier with Scholar's Armaments and then hit L2 to use Glintstone Phalanx. Make sure you use the Keen version of this Ash of War or you won't be able to buff it!
Glintstone Phalanx usually staggers enemies in one or two bursts, so be ready to deal Critical Damage with your Rapier which has a Critical Rating of 130 which is pretty damn good. This allows you to kill tough enemies easily.
Use Glintstone Pebble to thin out enemies or to reach enemies you cannot get with melee attacks, or on horseback as necessary.
Use Carian Greatsword when outnumbered or when on horseback in order to dispatch enemies easily.

?

Looks interesting, thanks!

We're going to see "Most OP build ever in Elden Ring" videos for the next 5 years probably. There are a crazy amount of combinations

Yeah it definitely feels like there's a .5sec or bit longer window before the roll kicks off. Having multiple functions, especially important ones like dodge, bound to the same button is pants on head retarded IMO. Its the same way on KB/Mouse. Spacebar has all the same functions bound. Didn't see if it could be rebound separately because mouse/kb feels like trash.

On one hand I kind of like that there are probably broken builds out there. Online gaming's desire to have a level playing field makes everything feel boring and neutered. OTOH the allure of build meta and theorycrafting goes away if there are obvious "lol just delete mobs with this comet" builds.

Right now I just want something that is fun to play and merely good, if not great.

This is my first 'souls game' so I have no direct comparison, but the buddy of mine who compelled me to get the game finally installed it himself yesterday and is extremely disappointed by how they "ruined it".

His specific comments include :

  • Unrealistic movement especially including jumping and overall movement speed -- he especially liked how the characters moved in the older games apparently.
  • Using white letters for messages as they used to be bright orange and now are easily confused with points of interest.
  • Dislike the open world environment where there's no indication of where to go as the former 'souls' games had a hub and spoke design.

Is there any validity to his complaints or is he just being salty?

I agree with the second one. Stopped reading messages a while ago because about 75% of them were misinformation. Like every goddamn wall has a "fake wall" message in front of it. Makes me want to play offline entirely. This is the cost of the game being wildly popular though, all the lowest common denominator people are pouring in.

Moonveil is the best weapon for a spellblade imo. I have something like 30 vigor, 20 mind, 20 end, 40 int and everything else at base (Radagon's Soreseal equipped 100% of the time for the extra vigor and end, plus it gives enough dex to meet the req for Moonveil without spending any actual levels on it). Going forward, everything is going in to int for a long time (at least 60).

For other talismans I use the skill FP cost reduction one, and the last slot bounces between crit FP, crit HP, HP regen, and sorcery damage. Good sorceries are pebble, blade, greatsword, greatbow, and rock sling. Carian shield is perfect for the build, with a swap to blue/yellow kite shield if you run into a fire boss.

95% of the time I kill trash with normal sword attacks and backstabs whenever possible to refill hp or fp. Swarms get taken out with either the L2/R1 skill or a couple greatswords. Bosses get L2/R2 spam, that weapon skill on the Moonveil is just insane.

For staff, I use the Meteorite one to cast, with the Carian Glintblade Staff in a slot I never use. You get the bonus to blade sorcery just by having it equipped; no need to actually cast with it or even upgrade it at all. Once I hit 48 I'll use a Crystal Staff (+5 is when it hits S scaling) until I get to 60 int and then it's a maxed out Carian Regal Staff.

They patched the stuttering on day 2 or 3. I don’t know if that cured everyone but I don’t have it anymore.

I also did these things. All simple, took a couple minutes to do them all. I actually turned all the graphics setting to maximum yesterday and it runs great still. That’s going to be dependent on your pc build though I’m sure.

Gonna try it out on PC later. I'm way too deep in PS5 to start over at this point, though.

Being salty imo.

The jumping and movement I can see being personal preference. The old movements would not work in this game at all. Open world without jumping (final fantasy XI) is fucking terrible.

The message color I’m not sure what points of interest he is talking about that looks the same. The only thing that looks like the messages are the “horse cutoff” glow at the front of some caves, and one I saw in a church somewhere.

Open world complaint would be valid if there weren’t giant arrows that tell you where to go on the main storyline for someone who really just wants to follow a path. Also there are legacy dungeons all over that are fairly linear style dungeons he’s used to.

This sounds like he played for 15 minutes and rage quit honestly. His complaints are not very well thought out if you’ve played for a few hours and see they aren’t valid. You even start seeing the arrows pointing directions like a half hour into it or less.

I've got a keen Godskin twinblade now with B scaling for Dex. Still wondering if I should switch to a Bleed twinblade and take the DPS hit in hopes that I'll get some huge bleed procs. I'm using the enchant that causes hemorrhaging but I'm not sure if it's actually working.

Most of all I want to finish upgrading my weapon, but you can't get the mats for that until like one of the final areas.

Just reached the Fire Giant. Hoo boy. Big homie has about a zillion HP. I managed to get him to half health on the best of my 3 attempts before running out of heal potions. He's too big for me to see what he's doing and dodge. Been wailing on that one ankle, dunno if there's something else I need to do. Anyone else get that far yet? Hatorade Hatorade got any Fire Giant protips?

its not amazing damage wise but i'm still rolling my hour 1 darth maul build, twin blades weapon on right + keys on left + bloodflame spell to get the spell effect. I think you can upgrade the weapon with Eleonars Blade later and keep the same vibe but I haven't looked into exactly how to get that yet

only downside is no block so you're just a rolling faggot

Try other leg? Once that ankle armor shatters you do way more damage.

I played online for the first few hours cause I wanted to experience all the funny troll messages, then I turned off. It’s funny for a little bit but I don’t need 90 hours of it. I don’t invade or summon people so there’s no point for me to see message spam all over the place.

1: The movement is fine, I think it's based more on Sekiro now rather than Souls. You're faster moving and much more agile, and platforming is actually fun, finally. Someone who cut their teeth on Souls and doesn't like Sekiro might have issues with it though.

2: The white letters were a stupid mistake, I'll give him that one.

3: The open world environment is simultaneously the best and worst thing about this game. I love that you can go anywhere, and I'm constantly discovering new places. If I started a new game, knowing what I know now, I could get OP pretty fast by just going to certain places way before I'm supposed to and grabbing certain items. Sorta like you could do with Catacombs in Souls 1, except times 100. However, the bad side of the open world environment is that you often don't know how to progress. I spun my wheels for about 10 hours in the mid-game before I checked a guide to find out where to go next and proceeded to annihilate Raya Lucaria and Volcano Manor since by then I was way overleveled for them. I'd say the best thing to do if this is an issue is to just have a barebones list on hand that tells you where you're supposed to go for the main quest and in what order. So if you ever feel like you aren't progressing, refer to that and get pointed in the right direction.

That's not what I was saying. I'm saying people are going to be experimenting for a long, long time and there are going to be a lot of interesting, powerful builds that people find for years to come
