ER makes this really difficult because of how interconnected all the NPCs / quests / areas apparently are. It'd be one thing if you had an NPC asking you to do some unknowable bullshit that you forgot about and later on found his name in a list and circled back to pursue his quest, but making it so that NPC is not only disinterested in doing a quest with you, but is also dead makes things much harder to play a mysterious game.
Exactly. Everything’s connected and mysterious…but also NPCs move around, hide, die…and you have no way of knowing. It’s too much for a game of this size.

We will all have it spelled out for us on websites eventually (probably already is) so it’ll be moot but still annoying. I don’t want to follow quest guides!

One thing I think I learned from the quests on my first run is ALWAYS go back to the place you found them the first time after resting.

They really could use a simple quest journal to at least scrap down some of this shit. No one has time to put a controller down and take notes in 2022! They have to spend that time rolling off cliffs and such!

Ranni's quest really feels like the only one you absolutely shouldn't skip though?

Yea the traditional Fromsoft formula for quests/NPCs really shows it's weak points here sometimes. It sort of worked in the Dark Souls games because they were highly linear and you could be reasonably expected to cross paths with NPCs in a relatively particular order, but that just doesn't apply at all here anymore. The overworld being so fucking huge makes it a nightmare to find, or hell even notice NPCs. I didn't even know the shabriri grape chick existed my first playthrough cause she's just randomly standing near-ish to a grace and got lost in the background as I ran through.
Yeah, I feel like they can improve this quite a bit without straying from the Fromsoft tradition of not holding your hand.

Just did Radahn, I expected him to be a lot harder from what I'd been reading but it only took 2 tries at level 70. Are people just not summoning the NPCs or something to make it harder? His moves were easier to read than a lot of other bosses, he doesn't have the really weird delays on swings and the NPCs distract him well.

The obvious answer is you just got lucky

I didn’t think he was very hard either. I died four or five times figuring out what he did but once I figured it out it was pretty easy. Ride around summoning shit, throw shit at him while he’s distracted. Poison him right before he flies away. Repeat first steps when he gets back. It’s one of those fights that takes a little while to figure out and seems hard at first, but will be really easy on a second play through.

Almost every fight people claim is giga-hard is because they are some combination of super low level or refusing to use the various tools they have available (ashes, NPC summons, ranged, sorcery, whatever) and instead attempting to just slap the boss to death with their +7 longsword for 75 tries in a row.

The difficulty is really what you make of it a lot of the time. That said, mimic tear/black knife summons are basically like having an easy difficulty available for people lol

The summons on the Radahn fight live a lot longer with the healer chick helping out. Problem is, if you ride away from the fight, she follows you instead of sticking with the NPCs. So you're forced to stay in range unless you want to race around like a headless chicken trying to find where the resummon signs pop. I got so annoyed with this fight that I went and bought Rotten Breath to cheese his ass.

I went exploring for a long, long time before I ever even decided to go back to Caelid and ultimately Radahn. I did Fire Giant and Crumbling Farum Azula before I even attempted him because I didn't realize I was doing the content so out of order. I would just see an area I wanted to explore... and went exploring. I think I was like level 105 when I fought him and already had a +10 Moonveil. Was chunking him for like 20% per hit.

Ah shit, I'm weak willed, traded in my Elden Ring copy and got Horizon Forbidden West.

I'm going to just buy Elden Ring on pc eventually for another run through I think.

I couldn't stop laughing at this for some reason.

I was around 55 for radahn took 4 or 5 tries and did it with sorcery. Summoned all of my bros and then just went to town with rock sling. Still had to dodge and run around a lot but it wasn’t too bad. I think my last bro died with radahn having a bit of health still so it got a bit hectic without someone to take the heat.

Hitting Gelmir Hero's Grave now and the chariots are some BS. Apparently the very first area (if you return to it via the towers on that hill) also has chariots in it and there's more to it. I already used up the key for that on a different tower though.

It makes sense to me. Two fingers is fine, three fingers and she gets mad.

I once dated a girl who told me she was a "one-finger girl" on the first date, and I was like yeah right, and then later I found out it was true because she hadn't had a boyfriend in almost four years and did a lot of kegels. God Bless America

This zone is worth doing just because you get to ride the chariot.

There are 3 keys for those portals. One is right at the Belfry, one is in Raya Lucaria, and I think I got my third recently in Leyndell.

Oh and nobody believes you have or had a girlfriend with how many games you're cranking out in the Backlog challenges!

How do you ride the chariot, just jump on it?

lul, when I was here earlier in the game and noped out, at one point I summoned two other players at the beginning or wherever, and then the FIRST CHARIOT we saw instantly killed both of them because they just stood out in the middle of the lava bridge. Was probably the funniest thing I saw all game

I haven't had a GF in a couple years, otherwise I'd be totally neutered on these backlog challenges. I don't think I've ever had a GF who actually knew how to let me have personal space for an entire 24 hour span without freaking out and wanting to come over. Which is how I built up this huge backlog in the first place!
