You can go to the palace first if you do the gold mask quest line for the perm invasion finger. This is how most people get to the bird farm early on. I tackled Mogh at a fairly early level for that boss, but L10 Tich and Moghs own fucking fly spell cheesed him pretty handily. Spear was a lot of fun for a while, but unless you are PvPing retards its basically useless if you get it at a level appropriate time. Blasphemous and Darkmoon just hit so much harder and the Wood Tree spear has a better moveset. By the time you hit the palace late game, if thats when you are doing it, everything you battle is so fucking aggressive that you never have time for the weapon art on the spear.

Update on my wife and I cooping the game:
Broomed out all of the Academy lake area, aside from the upside down tower since we need to advance the Darkmoon quest first. Spent most of the day plowing most of Caern area and have it mostly done, but will have to advance the Darkmoon quest first before tackling Radann. I ended up respeccing into a Night and Flame Sword setup, because I wanted a fire based weapon that didn't suck. Wife meanwhile has finally started occasionally swinging that blue int based sword to conserve mana, instead of burning every single trash mob down. She also found a snipe spot to cheese the dragon on the bridge, which was helpful as I was missing my ARC points I gave up for Night and Flame.

The Ganking leveled off a little in Caern, except for that sorcerer city with all the fucking ghosts. Hilariously, I have enough faith to do the AE knockback and that ruined the day of a couple of them. But the pattern of twinked out low level guys with endgame weapons (sometimes two of the same) continues. One guy literally stood there as an NPC summon did essentially no damage while wailing away on him, as well. Not sure what that is about, but there is some serious cheese in the PvP. It should just be scrapped entirely or weapon trades disabled at the minimum. The number of times I have seen these fuckers with that blood katana (sometimes two) makes me roll my eyes. And the madness lazer eyes guys can go fuck off too. This game could have been one of the greatest coop game experiences ever, if they had simply reined in the gankers or dropped PvP entirely. The guys who want to self flagellate for epeen points could still solo Melenia with a rusty spoon. The only people who would miss out are the ganking assholes, because the fair playing PvP player simply does not exist.

Is it possible to set up multiplayer / co-op so that no randoms can join your game, or are you always susceptible to gank invasion nonsense? I told a friend I'd co-op this with him if he got it, wondering now how tedious that'd be because of constant invasions.

Swapped Moonveil for the Moonlight Greatsword variant, it's so much better. I still like Moonveil for the look though. Next time I get a +10 Somber it's going on the Darkmoon, till then it's stuck at +9 which bothers me for a main weapon.

Also found an area I've never seen before when I read on here about Wing of Astel and looked it up. I totally missed that section. 109 hours on the game and still finding things I missed.

Got all the Memory Stones and a bunch of Sacred Tears I missed, flask is maxed out now and I think spell slots are too. Don't think there's anything else I can do before NG+.

For spells I've got Comet Azur, Stars of Ruin, Founding Rain of Stars, the greater glintstone stabby spell that makes giant blue swords materialize above you, and Carian Greatsword, though that last one seems a bit redundant with the Darkmoon sword. Any spell suggestions I might want to swap any of these out for?

150ish hours in and beat Malenia. I thought she'd be harder on a pure sorcery build, rock sling ftw along with a few lucky waterfowl dodges.

Rounding up everything before I go to NG+. Seluvis is long dead of course, but I still have his potion, hope I can turn dung man into a puppet still, if not that will have to be done in NG+, don't seem to have missed anything else that is significant.

What a journey.

I thought you had to do the sewers / first Mohg fight before you could go to Mohgwyn Palace / second Mohg fight. If you do the latter first will he still spawn in the sewers?

I hope not, but idk, I killed the invader in the snowfield and used the portal there to Mohgs palace area, guess I'll find out soon if I screwed myself out of an area.

Malenia is only hard if you set sily restrictions for yourself. People saying it's the hardest boss ever in gaming are doing things like melee/counter attack only.

Well if you're going to screw yourself out of an area, that fucking sewer certainly isn't the worst one to miss.

Yeah I have personally been putting off the sewer area on my main play (currently clearing snow area), especially since I already cleared all the shit out of Moghs area a while ago. That leaves frenzied shit which I care not at all about and the fingerprint shield I would need to level 20 STR just to use, let alone gear weight. Just getting down to Mogh Jr was a pain in the ass. I tried the mario bros section after that and pretty much noped out for now. I figure Hagtree will piss me off enough to go back.

The Haligtree aids sections you can easily sprint through. It's only a bitch if you want to actually explore it and get the items, but there's nothing really worth clearing for.

For Mario Brothers section, take off everything and become naked as the day you were born. Super easy :)

Yeah I see lots of streamers/youtubers hammer their dicks against bosses because they want to solo it. I summon everything I can and smash them from behind.

I did cheat a lot with General Radahn or whatever his name is, got help from a player who owned it hard. But I needed his armor, looks awesome. :p

The see the content and summon run is good.

Treat yourself to a solo run with the tongue turned on for true DS1, as intended imo, experience after

Togue in ER is not the same as DS1 invasion experience. The twinking was never even remotely this bad and you at least got some warning when invaded so you could move to a somewhat safe/revoverable spot. In ER, half the time I literally do not see the warning until I am already ganked because it spawns the invadors very close to you. Meanwhile, the hunters spawn miles away behind walls of terrain and hostile mobs. And, oh yeah, no invasion timer so its chain gank in major bottleneck areas. At least there are not gear corrosion pots in this one. With DS1 and even the other two DS games, an invasion felt like something you might be able to overcome with a couple gear swaps and decent planning/technique. Here its just waiting to see what flavor of gank twink is going to one shot you with endgame gear.

The tongue only seems to be used by people exploiting the no horse in PVP AFK for XP and Rune Arcs crowd.

Was helping a low level with falling star beast, kept getting invaded in his arena. Seriously? That's some cheesy shit. Time to do the same thing and grief I guess.

Also trying the arcane OP build now, traded rivers of blood to my alt right before he goes into the academy. At +5 it's just pumping damage, got the talisman reducing fp cost for it.

I started trading my weapons away on my main, and then restore the save file, get them all back. I can make a +10 sacred sword etc and give it away. The problem is the person you are trading with has to reach +10 level weapon to see it. So it seems better to hold +0 weapons so you can trade them to low levels. Gave my buddy a blasphemous blade for instance, he just started volcano manor tho so not a huge deal, but you could give all these weapons to a level 1.

Yea might do a more "normal" run after this one and maybe try a caster type. This is my first Souls game so I need to be beefy to get anywhere. Grinded a lot yesterday and today and finally I can co-op with myself!

There is absolutely no shame in needing a lot of learning time and practice coming in, especially if this one is your first

I have no desire to cheat code this game, but given my limited play time and this being my first DS-type experience, I don't mind taking advantage of whatever tools are readily available. It's certainly been better for my controller life.

For example, after a few attempts at those dual gargoyle fucks, I tried cheesing them over to the waterfall, and sure enough, one of them promptly suicided. Even then I still barely managed to survive hacking away at the second one and its horseshit poison spam until it finally died. Did not feel bad.

How are the somber smithing stone situation? I know you can buy 1-4 and I've collected the easy 5-9s. Are there more of those readily available somewhere later?

Finished Ranni quest line also, that last boss underground took a few tries for sure.

There should be enough somber's to +10 at least 3 weapons
