We spent money on SimCity, so there is plenty of sad to go around.
True, but I actually played that shit at least before putting money on it. I don't think I have bought a game since DAOC/AO that I didn't play at least a few hours before buying it. No more just blind giving money away on marketing/words alone.

I know this is a crazy concept, but some peoplelikebuilding and creating things. Go look at the absolutely crazy shit people build in MineCraft...forabsolutely nothing.

And you're surprised that people would want to build shit with the possibility of making money from it or having their creations immortalized in an MMO?
Some of the best (and most successful) games have mod tools. Mmo's have been behind the curve in that area because of obvious exploit issues. Othewise all mmos would have those tools for the reasons you just stated.

So thiis is a good thing for SoE and EQNext. SoE's mmo division has alway been good about coming up with new twists. Unfortunately, they usually went low budget when implementing those ideas. If EQNext fails it will be for that reason, low budget artists, programmers, and designers.

While I'm not entirely convinced that a game's (or genre's, for that matter) success or failure can be traced back to their mod tools, I definitely think it adds a layer of longevity and community to a game.

What I'm wondering at this point is: What will make a stake worthwhile? Is it limited? or is it just going to generate endless space to develop, like minecraft. If it's endless, will there be hub cities of some sort, so that having land close to them will be highly prized? I could see being one of the first people to have their own prime plot of land outside of say, freeport or qeynos being something cool that people would want. If it's more like minecraft though, with endlessly generated terrain, who cares?

On that note, how big is a stake? Does that mean you're basically limited to building one house/castle sized structure? Is everyone sharing a world, or are you going to be building in an instance?

What will gameplay be like? Will there be a thriving trade economy and eventually linked with combat gameplay and such, or is this going to basically be second life? The more I think about this in terms of something that's its own thing apart from EQN, the more of a potential clusterfuck it feels like. I really wish we had more information.

Don't you worry your pretty little head, they'll fix all those issues in the first patch. Or the second. You know how SOE does things: measure twice, cut twice.

All good points and even better people shelling out $ without having a clue. First dibs on plots? We don't even know if that's how its done, if there is prime real estate or not. I'm leaning towards everyone gets their own little world/communities.

I'm pretty sure if SOE made an EQ4 website with absolutely no info and asked for 400$ for early access, they'd get a thousand takers.

It brings "shut up and take my money" to a whole new level.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if they are still planning on letting ProSieben handle the European side of things?
Its an absolutely atrocious service, I fancied a bit of DCUO in late May, I couldn't get my account activated again, and the service emailed me last month saying it was now done.

May->Oct. What the actual fuck...

Uhhhh the only thing I care about are the building tools. It's minecraft with a better engine set in Norrath. I don't care about all the MMO elements that do or will eventually exist in Landmark, and it remains to be seen if ill even play EQnext at all. What I am interested in, and they have shown to my satisfaction, is the world building + player studio monetization.

Yes, unless Landmark launches so riddled with bugs that it is unplayable, I intend to play it quite a bit.
I doubt Landmark is in any way set in Norrath, unless you think that spacesuit is everquesty. A better description would be you can build whatever the fuck you want including a recreation of a crashed ISS, but sometimes they'll have contests for EQN-specific content on limited tilesets when they need a new zone build for EQN.

I dunno, if that founders pack is still going come christmas I might drop 60$ on it because I'm retarded, but also I'm basically looking at it as another form of kickstarter, but actually getting the game (EQN) when it's out. Plus I fucking love exploring and I fucking love building. If there's any more info I'd consider the 100$ but at that point I can just go fuck off back to minecraft until the game actually launches.

If you have been following Landmark closely, you should know that worlds are procedurally generated. However, points of interest (Landmarks) exist, that are points of fast travel, and areas where player trade is conducted. I think theyve even said each biome will have a landmark. I'd say its safe to assume proximity of your plot to a landmark will increase its value.

My plot will be right on the best hill overlooking the best nexus spire. I'm going to open the best spa and it's going to be called the Phallic Shack due to it's enormous size and curious shape.

Some good stuff fromRPS.

I was originally really excited and ready to throw $100 to SOE but was totally put off that there is no combat at release. This has me back on the fence again.

RPS: Do you have any concrete plans for PVP yet? Anything on how players will interact beyond creating stuff?

Georgeson: Yes. That's all I can say right now. You can imagine, though. You can break up the world and stuff. So the PVP can be really wild. We also have a really cool housing system, but not in the traditional sense. These are PVP houses, like schools of thought behind. it's hard to describe right now.

But there's all kinds of stuff we can do. Obviously in Landmark, people can build their own areas. When we roll over the PVP systems, then they can build battlefields and actually play against each other. That's where we're going.

RPS: Due to all of this, your version of EQN is just one of potentially thousands of worlds players can go inhabit under these systems.

Georgeson: Yep. Ours is just a professionally developed alternative.

RPS: If your version is totally overshadowed, will you be disappointed? What will you do if people play EverQuest Next and say, "Eh, this is kinda boring. I'm just going to stick to user-created worlds"?

Georgeson: It will only be because Landmark is a success, and I refuse to cry in my beer over that.
