Srsly, stop the stupid wow bg pvp crap. Just make it based off EQ and have several servers and thats that. Create a small team to manage them for "balance" and let it be. No need for anything else.
because it's a very, very slippery slope. if you have people willing to spend $5 on some stupid, meaningless item, then they are sure as shit going to pay $29.99 for sword of dick swinging. all these companies see are dollar signs. why only go for the little sums of money when you can sell big time items and make ten times as much?First, let me state up front.. I am against the cash shops entirely because I find them pointless. But what I don't get are all the people talking about "Pay to Win". Going off of the EQ2 SC shop, its nothing but fluff visual crap like appearance slot junk, particle effect crap, non-interactive pets, housing items, and whatnot. There is an argument about the Mounts that are available for run speed, but they were introduced when faster versions of the same were out in the normal live game. They also offer some bags, but that wouldnt actually be anything game breaking either. What exactly do people think is going to ruin the game with the cash shop? The day I see a Sceptre of Destruction type twink item up for Station Cash, then I would be up and arms screaming too! But, it has never remotely been the case.
The slippery slope argument would be valid if more games actually sold uber loot in their cash shops. The reality is that most of the major F2P mmos do not sell uber loot in their shops and wont because it turns gamers away. You can't sell anything if nobody plays the game.because it's a very, very slippery slope. if you have people willing to spend $5 on some stupid, meaningless item, then they are sure as shit going to pay $29.99 for sword of dick swinging. all these companies see are dollar signs. why only go for the little sums of money when you can sell big time items and make ten times as much?
P2W doesn't have to be p2w just by selling the actual items in the shop. If they allow some way of $$ to in-game currency, it could easily turn p2w that way. All depends how its done and how loot is handled(allow trading of most if not all items or go the "Top gear is no-trade" etc). The slippery slope argument would be valid if more games actually sold uber loot in their cash shops. There are P2W games for sure. Runes of Magic is good example. It is a fun WoW clone up until you hit realize it's P2W. As soon as I did I stopped playing and never went back.
Most gamers hate P2W. If a mmo has that tag then they lose players and potential revenue.
True, but most players are sensitive to that path also. Just look at all the epic threads regarding P2W for every new mmo or every mmo that switched from the sub model.P2W doesn't have to be p2w just by selling the actual items in the shop. Can i lick your tears when eqn is revealed as an open world pvp sandbox game as that is one of the like 4 things that has already been confirmed about the game? Seriously.
LolThere's no sandbox or emergent gameplay at all. This is EQ 2.1. They said they weren't making a WoW Clone and that's all this is. Nothing new or different about this game at all. Everything is Instanced? So PVP is out and PVE is WoW unless combat is all action-y which means everyone wanting EQ1 is going to be butthurt. Player Made Dungeons? Who gives a fuck. Every single cryptic game that's out has player made dungeons, it's crap. If you are following Cryptic Studios lead for design and F2P model then you should kill yourself instead of developing games.
From Flip's description it sounds like nothing was scrapped, the game that was in development to be a WoW clone just kept chugging along. The announcement of anything different was all just hype machine to convince the re-treads that the same shit the industry has been peddling for the last 8 years is going to be different this time.
That possibility had occurred to me as well. Having both would make a lot of sense, with instanced housing serving as both a cheaper alternative, as well as being an option if all the non-instanced housing plots get bought up.I still have a lot of questions...
1. Is housing only instanced in major cities? Cuz that would make sense to me. Perhaps there will still be housing zones outside the main hubs? At the very least. Was hoping for the Karanas to be like null sec EVE and guilds could build competitive (open PVP) strongholds there.
I honestly think its gonna look like PS2 with orcs.Even with the official news not out till Friday, I am almost positive it going to be some low poly cartoony graphics so computers that are 10 years old, was well as the next gen consoles can run the game.
If it ends up being Cartoony low poly art style then tidbit will not be happy, However I still pray the rest of the game makes up for that.
Cheers.
Yes something is missing even if storybricks replaces wow questing there is no way you get to sandbox. So either flip's source is fundamentally wrong on a key aspect or smed is a bald faced liar. Both are equally plausible. There's no sandbox or emergent gameplay at all.

The source isn't necessarily wrong, he may (definitely) just be lacking 100% of the info. The info Flip posted looks to me a lot like the stuff people were 'allowed' to talk about in the office. The fac that his post included nothing about story bricks speaks volumes. Here is clearly a lot we have to wait until the weekend about.Yes something is missing even if storybricks replaces wow questing there is no way you get to sandbox.
