The problem with MMOs is that they should not be telling stories to solo players like they have been trying to do since 2004. Instead they should focus on giving players a living breathing world and tools in which they make their own stories.

Phasing is the next stage for those mmos because it isthe only way you can show one player some progression without changing the ride for all playerswho come after. WoW uses it because quest progression is carefully mapped out and calculated when they create a zone and letting players actually affect the world is anathema to that type of carefully calculated player experience.

EQN by every indication is not going to be that game because in a sandbox you let the players have impact on the world. Phasing could be used in a sandbox but not as a massive central pillar of the game.
That thing is the most retarded game design approach I've ever experienced in my life.
If I am in Mansions of Madness I want to be in Mansions of Madness, THE Mansions of Madness. I don't want to be in Mansions_of_Madness_Copy_For_Those_Who_Triggered_X . When I am under the Arch of Victory and my friend is there too but I can't see him because he didn't make his character scratch his ass on the way to the same freaking spot is just plain stupid. Did my friend just turned into a ghost or in a parallel universe? This is stupid, confusing, destroys immersion and really really really unnecessary.

I DO NOT need to see that kind of retarded progression... Ooooh you saved the town, now it's not burning. IT IS BURNING but not where I am, it is burning for someone else who didn't finish quest X. Why does anyone CARE for this kind of illusion of accomplishment? WHO CARES?!

Give me static, yet rich, content and that's it.

Every game has permadeath. It's the delete button.

Real roleplayers delete their characters if they die.

You just wanna grief somebody. I feel you bro. And yeah, no one is gonna let you do that ever again except for maybe EVE. Cause those guys are trueblood vikings.

Laura, we all agree with you... The problem is that what you want simply isn't feasible any more.

Didn't EQ do a hardcore progression server a while back? Or something similar.

Has nothing to do with that. I wouldn't care if open world pvp didn't even exist on the server. The problem with "Self policing" permadeath is that not everyone follows the rules. If its coded into the game on a specific hardcore server then EVERYONE is FORCED to play by those rules. That's what makes it fun. If you do the self police method of deleting a char when you die and you're having a contest with your friends to see who gets the furthest without dying. What prevents them from dying when you're not around and just lying and saying it never happened?

Stupid argument is stupid. Bring on the HC Server.

They had a hardcore FFA PvP contest server that lasted about a month, the highest level characters at the end got transferred to whatever server they liked and got a title "The Executioner"

Unfortunately it was ruined by hackers, but it still made for some fun times

I think a hardcore server could be amazing with a couple of caveats since this is an MMO... Maybe like a 30 minute rez timer, and if you don't get one, then you're done? Would still make dungeon crawling and raiding feasible.

Yeah he's either trolling, or it'll be a RL type setup where you "die" but your "son" or "daughter" takes over. And it won't happen every time you "die".
