The Koada'Dal, feeling superior (and paranoid), begin subjugating other races which they are able to do with their unique form of magic (High Magic) which even the dragons are afraid of
The Dragons, despite being unable to be subjugated become angered due to their close allies which could become subjugated such as the Kobalds and Drakes
The Dragons become isolated and go back to Velious and cut contact with other races

A new alliance forms between the Feir'Dal with ogres, dwarves, kerrans and other previously subjugated races creating an alliance of equals known as The Combine
The Combine begin to strike back at the Dragons
The dragons are too powerful and the combine are forced to flee
To buy time the Combine make one final stand at Bastion
The elite force of elves, known as the Teir'Dal and led by Keramor Thex, destract the dragons by making a last stand at Bastion while the remnants of the combine flee to the wild frontier of Kunark
The Combine Era

Following the success of The Last Stand (despite the high cost) some of the combine escape to Kunark
The dragons are left behind
The Age of Exile begins
The Combine stumble upon the Shissar on Kunark who are allied with/controlling the Iksar
The Combine become enslaved by the Shissar for 500 years
The Iksar begin an uprising to free themselves from the Shissar and the combine assist them
The Shissar are overthrown by the Iksar and Combine and drive them back to their own world and seal the portal
The Combine and Iksar both build their own societies
The Iksar are broken as a race and find it difficult to not implement some of the methods of the Shissar into their own society
Venril Sathir of the Iksar tries to forcefully keep the Combine empire within the clutches of the Iksar for their knowledge of magic despite some sympathy from some groups of iksar
The Combine do not wish to be subjugated again and decide to leave Kunark and try to take back their own land

The Age of Heroes begin
The Combine sails back to their own land and founds the ragged frontier town of Qeynos as they explore their long lost continent

Looks like that will leave it up to players to scout out and build Grobb, Halas, Freeport..etc..etc.

Personally the ONLY reason I'm holding out so much hope and excitement for EQN is because of PS2. I have put so much time into that game up until a recent break. The free to play model is exactly what you want to see. You do NOT need to purchase anything to progress through the game but you can speed things up a bit purchasing a gun you might like. The game itself looks awesome and runs great. Yeah there are some hiccups here and there but overall after a big ass thrilling battle I walk away PHEW!! that was fuckin' intense!
So they've got the benefit of the doubt with me so far. Very eager to hear some REAL info on the game. Particular class stuff.

See my comment, for what they are trying to do with EQN, I agree with Qhue.
This is not the game I would make if I had the wherewithal to make a game (and I don't ;-) ) but it is a solid game. That's why Butler and McPherson aren't going to change anything significant based on the roundtable despite Terry Michael's concerns.
I don't understand the blind devotion. They showed you nothing related to the actual game. We have devs already backtracking/contradicting during a 3-day span. We have a multitude of concepts and ideas that, not only has SoE never done, but no-one has ever done before in a MMO. All of this coming from a studio that has produced nothing but a deluge of shit over the last 10 years.

No one should be saying "They are doing this shit RIGHT".

While this will probably generate enough income for SOE at release to recoup a good chunk of the development costs, I think they're going to go a different direction with the Station Store for their long term sustainability. They're inevitably going to let you buy player-created content directly from others using Station Cash, or something to that effect. Make no mistake about it, SOE is only excited about player created content because SOE is planning to profit from from the hard/creative work that the players are going to do. The rest of the game is a lower priority to the Developers because it's only just the bait that they're using to get a larger and more diverse group of players to invest time and effort into the new player created Norrath.

Mark my words: SOE's primary mission in EQN is to get players to pay SOE for the content that other players create.
So what?

Someone explain why this is a bad thing given that "content" can be created at a faster pace with a cloud sourcing.

So, as Dumar would say, Capitalism?
In a word, bingo!

The impression I got from the sum total of the reveal is that they've got this fantastic new idea for a way to monetize player created content, but they're still really spectacularly hazy on the details about how to maximize the number of paying customers. Go back and re-watch thekeynote. They've thought long and hard about player created content, oh, and they also have some vague sketchy ideas about an MMO too.

I am very impressed by everything I saw. They learned that the old level-based themepark is just no longer interesting and their whole notion of having a more dynamic world with fully destructible everything is pretty darn amazing. As to what they have been working on? Well its this very concept of how to implement a dynamic world and the whole creation system. They are doing this shit RIGHT people... start with the foundation and basic physics of how the world works and when you have that working and working well then you can implement whatever actual gamified system into that world that you could possibly want.

The world creation that gets polished for and by the EQMinecraft game launching in a few months will set the stage nicely and force the engine to be robust. They are doing something to really change shit up in a meaningful way and I could not be happier.
are you really that dumb? there's still leveling in the game, it's just disguised differently and given a new name: tiers. it's still fucking leveling! you are still advancing your character through playing the game. so if that's the case, why not just have LEVELS? horizontal is for fucking, not video games (not that a lot of you WoW tards would know anything about that).

The Disney look thing, it was bugging me that it didnt quite seem like disney but yet had something close. It seems like its more Don Bluth than disney, but depending on what era you want to pick from he was with Disney for some time but then left and later created Dragons Lair and Anastasia which seem to be a bit more on target with current animation and looks within EQnext.

You have no tangible proof it's a solid game. Theidea'sare solid (mostly, some not so much), but that is literally all we can infer from this glorified tech demo. They have been at it for 2 years, and don't have a game to play yet. You're inferring its a good game (or will be a good game) from the dickheads who brought us Vanguard and EQ2. I agree with someone else, when they say we're excited over a few videos and dev speak from arguably the worst MMO developers not being paid by Schilling. Brilliant.

I love the rage quotes coming out of this thread.

"facial expressions are for faggots and women"

"horizontal is for fucking, not video games"

love it. almost as much as the naive quotes, I saw this one regarding the art style and the Kerrans on the official boards..

"No, it's fine, once they add textures to it, it'll look much better."

It sets a horrible precedence. If companies start to push more and more work onto players to get free workers. I don't mind paying someone decent money for their creation, but I can bet the % a player gets for his creation from this is not much compared to what SOE makes for themselves. Not to mention all that "Free" money SOE gets, given past precedent, doesn't go back into the game, just into their pockets.

You can see it in kickstarter, yes its great for small companies to finally do what they want, but its also a breeding ground for big companies and people with money already to make their audience help pay to build the product, but then also charge full price for it like they footed the entire bill.

I'm not exactly trying to make the argument that this is A Bad Thing. I'm just trying to put it out there that "the game" portion of EQN is not the part of EQN that SOE thinks is important enough to devote their time and resources toward. Who knows, maybe it's finally a sign that they've realized that they don't actually know how to make a good game and the the players really can do better than them.

I'm not getting my hopes up though, this shit still isn't even an Alpha.

I have a question, with their system, how long until I am end game ready? I would assume 2 properly chosen classes can have the abilities needed and gear would be the only question of how good your character is. Is that gonna take 24 hours per class to get the top tier items and all the classes abilities? Will it take less than that?

They quoted that to keep a character maxed on a class consistently you'd not want to multiclass much - so likely not 24h.

Horizontal is a great gameplay system for a sandbox or a discreet encounter game. I can see the reason to try and essentially work the champion aspect of LoL into characters--so if you see an encounter with a powerful mage, and you've collected the proper pokemon, I mean "class", and have evolved your pokem... I mean properly geared and kitted out your class, you have a tool for the job.

The problem is, LoL and Pokemon don't really rely on a character identity in the world. Persistent worlds, do. So this is certainly an experiment in that regard. You could say EvE does this, because technically ships are like discreet classes/roles, and someone with enough skill can control tons of different ships--but EVE has some pretty intense resource constriction and risk to prevent people from summoning a completely different "class" at will.

The whole horizontal aspect will really be a neat experiment, in my opinion. But it's going to REALLY depend on the rest of the game. The whole game needs to be done with that aspect in mind.

nah bro, you'll run into giant versions of smaller monsters ala spore once in a while, and you can batphone that one guy you met who has sweet emotes to join in on a "raid"
