Ugh collecting classes would be like the least important thing for me in EQnext. It would be just as much of a chore as grinding levels.
I wanna explore every inch of Norrath. I want to collect my ideal set(s) of gear. I wanna kill the biggest baddies and build a sweet house.
I want to do all these things, and I want to do it with a character that has more than 4 fucking abilities. If im out exploring and I stumble across a class acquisition, so be it, but I'd rather just have all of them at the beginning and just play the game how I see fit.
Isn't that the whole point?
Gaining classes is going to be like collecting gear I bet. It's a mix of FFXI(V), LOL and Rift. Originally, Rift was going to be a game where anyone could equip any soul and you had to quest/raid/whatever to find souls. Later the dumbed it down to just splitting them into 4 and giving them to you at level 1.
Taking everything they say at face value (dangerous and I personally don't) what they want to do looks interesting. You can start off by selecting one of X amount of basic classes. Go into the world and explore and do stuff. You're not immediately going to hit the treadmill of quest hub humping, but you're map or UI will probably point you in the direction of a Rallying Call.
I picture Rallying Calls being placed on a Map (maybe no minimap, maybe no GPS on main map), and you will make your way towards that area, but in GW2 style there will be small "hearts" or whatever going on that contribute to the Rallying Call.
Players will have to learn, like in GW2, that they just have to go out into the world and do shit and gain things.
Now they will have to get used to no levels which is awesome.
The core game will be easy. Run around, craft, kill stuff, see things. The hard parts, and I'm guessing, is gaining higher tiers. Maybe not everyone will be able to get to Tier 5, just like in WOW vanilla, people weren't able to see Naxx. Just like in League of Legends, there are only like 100 Challengers in each region, so in EQN Tier 5 is a very small group.
There are so many ways they can take this game that will satisfy the hardcore people, but we just don't know anything yet. So we either have to trust the devs, or continue screaming into the internet based on mis-information and already judge the game based on cartoon-like graphics. I prefer to take the middle approach and just wait and see and try to guess where the game will go casual and where the game will go hardcore.
I also like the limited skill sets. Makes it very easy to add classes and weapons into the game and people always love trying out new stuff.
