Look at the EC Tunnel made me think that ultimately we are in control of the rules we play by to extent. I was think that groups, guilds, and even entire servers decide if they want to be progression, roleplaying, classic, etc. If they create us a world that harkens enough to Everquest, we can make it the game we want and simply refuse to use or play any mechanics we choose. Who knows, during beta maybe we can make that stand and guide the game in the right direction. They can have a server or cluster wide auction house and we can advertise to the gaming world that our server is going to sit in the tunnel and sell. (That's just an example.)

In regards to the McQuaid comments... in the right position and responsibility, he's pretty brilliant. We joke about him a lot and sure he's done some ignorant things but the guy has ideas and I would have him as a lead designer in this particular franchise without question. Actually, I would be giving EQNext a much greater benefit of the doubt if he was at the helm more so than Georgeson.

I...don't...know...what...?

C'mon guys, we tarred and feathered the guys for years. Now all the sudden, he's the equivalent of Mozart for MMO's. Open up your heart and let your hate out.

Essentially Brad is good when his main job is bringing to life his ideas. He's terrible at managing the actual realities of a project. The stories of the debauchery and lack of management in the VG offices were pretty epic.

And has anyone else noticed all the floating islands appearing in artwork? There's one at the top of that whiteboard drawing of the different tiers in the black box video, and as I recall, the SOE Live presentation had a concept of the Oasis of Marr with a shit ton of floating islands.

Flight mechanics confirmed?
Argh, I hope not, at least on the floaty islands all over. EQ2 has them up the arse, and I hope SOE is done with them.

If Brad is our last hope, we are screwed.

How many of you have actually played LoL?

I'm serious when I say that the LoL community makes the WoW community look like a bunch of saints. EQN being f2p and catering to the kinds of kids/(adults?) that seem to amass in games like League of Legends might be cause for alarm. If there is one single thing that keeps turning me away from LoL more than any other aspect, it is being forced to interact with the people that play it. Interestingly enough, it is also the number one reason that I am hoping for an all out PvP server. I will be able to fuel myself off of griefing satisfaction for many years to come.

haha.. as Lithose said, it depends on his role. If they would just put him in a room, plug into his brain, and tell him to think about Everquest it would probably be a good thing. If you told Brad to run the team, a bunch of money, and we'll see you in 6 months. You would probably never see him again until you realize he cracked and checked into rehab.

LoL conversations are the best stress relievers on the planet. My team and I pray we play against trolls, morons, noobs, whatever just for the smacktalk. I'm mostly set back and watch but some of my RL friends/teammates are near poetic. Seriously, you're right. I don't know if I could handle my Everquest sessions with those people. WoW was painful enough.

I think as VG started to actually become playable over the years people started to realize that alot of what Brad did with the game wasn't as terrible as we thought. He was just terrible at deciding when to stop adding things and polish what he had and terrible at knowing when the tech just didn't support his vision.

Wouldn't a smart AI have mobs pursue actions that fit in with their abilities? Rogues are stealthing to the back, casters are attacking from distances, priest mobs are separating, healing and debuffing... Warriors are up front and reacting to players who attack their healers or casters, pretty much what we have been doing. Mobs actions would change not only in response to players, but the classes of the other allies around them, constantly seeking more effective synergy.
This is a good point. They said that they designed NPCs to be like players, which meant they were the same classes that the players use. They let slip for example that Druid NPCs would try to kite players trying to kill them.

Amen my friend, the LoL community is an absolute shithole. I will take pride in hunting them down. I think most of them will be around 17 years old by the time EQ Next ships.

I don't think people are giving the AI enough credit. If it works as advertised they can make extremely smart mobs. Like FF12 gambits, each tier down they could add more condition slots for more complex AI.

How can you give something credit when its all just words atm? This is the first game its ever been implemented, not exactly a proven track record.

i give them credit for putting in the effort to attempt to implement what they claim.

I have some level of faith that they can replicate PS2 era NPC decision making.
