Depends on context.

Tank and Spank Vulak in the corner for 45 minutes? I'd immediately quit the game.

45 minute slugfest where some crazy badass runs around your entire town blowing shit up while you work to mitigate the damage he does at the same time as making him stop? Could be pretty fun once or twice.
I will clarify. I don't want 45 minute fights all the time. Once in a while, when it is interesting, particularly where you are sub-optimal (less than a max group, less than an optimal group makeup) such that if you manage resources well you can win the fight, if you don't manage them well you lose the fight. I can honestly only think of two personal examples and both were in VG with a Disciple healer (had endurance heals in addition to mana heals) both fights lasted about 35-40 minutes. How long did it take Rallos Zek to take out The Sleeper?

Disagree. Long fights can be very interesting - managing your resource pools to (for example) be able to heal before the tank gets hammered. Goes back to earlier discussion that combat should be more about resource management.
What motivation would a mob have to stay in a 45 min fight? Cornered rat, yep.. But wouldn't a good AI require a reason for a mob to stay there other than someone hit a taunt button?

What if you're chasing a wounded mob? Does that count as a "fight" if it takes 45 minutes to finally bring it down?

If you want to spend 45minutes or more on one boss. what is wrong with that?
It comes down to what you want out of a raid encounter. I know that all my years of my raiding wouldn't have lasted long if we knew we could just X heal an encounter. At that point, raiding turns into literal loot pinatas. For me, I want to solve a puzzle with friends. Knowing that our team needs to play better, use the room more creatively, alter our composition or develop new tactics. All of that thought process goes to waste when someone can pipe up with, "Just add another healer,". Lame.

Evercast chat on twitch does have Georgeson fielding questions. He's actually answering some.. Not sure who the rest of these people are at the moment but i've also noticed other forums, chats, etc. and have people even played MMO's before? They worry about the most ignorant things.

Well, in their defense, that is the PR guy posting in those threads. It's not like he's going to be discussing gameplay features with people in any event.
He's probably a nice guy in person, but comes across as such a hack/tool on Reddit; I guess that means he's doing his job, right?

Hacking questions were asked of devs at the Dev brunch. They hadn't heard of Macroquest or ShowEQ. They being Butler, McPherson and Michaels. That doesn't mean other devs in the EQN group hadn't heard of it - but the top three gave a collective "What's that?"
WTF man, you have to be joking. MQ2 ruined all the ZEk servers. When all the Zeks mergered it was MANDATORY to have MQ2 downloaed to warp on Pandas raids. It was funny watching all the anti PKs from Ascending dawn ping pong all over the place and still lose every pvp war. Good times.

They need their MMO houseboats, what can't you understand? It's a house AND a boat.

From the mouths of people sitting at the table. No joke, I am sure others at SOE are well aware of MQ2. Just not those three. Which is an issue because we can also see the mega-hacking potential of EQN.

Anything interesting come of it? The chat won't load on my iPad, and I don't feel like grabbing another machine to see if it's still going on.

Not so far except Omeed gave a winter timeframe for the Landmark Beta not release. Also the TV people keep making factual mistakes.

My question on the hacking subject is, did it have an effect in eq2? Hacking exists in wow but is beaten back to the point where you will never see it unless its you doing it and you will be banned shortly. I don't think hacking is an issue in any recent game I've played in fact. Maybe it popped up here and there but it has always been squashed. If we are just worried from eq experience I would say that isn't relevant in the least and probably no reason to know the names of hacks from that game anyway.

Tad in chat as well. If anything comes of it, im sure one of us will report.
Apparently they want everything they want (Rollercoasters) nothing they don't want (Chainmail Bikinis) and there should be no racial or class restrictions. A Troll SK/Paladin mix should be as easy to get as a Half-Elf Ranger/Bard. -_-

Edit: Also memo to Ever_Cast if you're going to talk about the game do the research. There are four tiers in every area. Not 3.

I am not enthusiastic about the game if these are the kinds of people they're going to listen too. It's a fucking magic world - who the fuck cares if you're wearing a thong or full bp.

Hacking is an issue in DCUO, a f2p SOE game. It was mostly an issue in pvp with free accounts. And you'd never know because it's DCUO and who gives a fuck... but hacking (really speedhacks, exploits to their block/counter system, and teleporting was all I ever saw) was rampant in that game. Supposedly they would ban accounts that were verified but with the ability to create a new account instantly and the investment of about one hour total in playtime to get into pvp matches again...

So there is a relevant concern about how SOE handles f2p + client hacks. It's not just a theoretical question. If the game is popular and you don't have some kind of paywall you're just going to have client hacks.

Hacking was an issue in eq due to competition for open world raid targets. Its not an issue if pve is all instanced. Whether it will be an issue in Eqn or not depends on what they decide to do about instances.

I'm honestly kinda curious how Eve deals with it.

If ever there was a game that was begging to be client hacked for grief and profit, it's Eve. But you don't hear these horror stories about eve.

Because the game is actually just a spreadsheet. It's pretty easy to secure a spreadsheet.
