This is what's confusing. So you can multiclass by picking abilities of that class to use instead of abilities of your main class currently? So that means when I switch classes, will the switch remember my favorite abilities from a subclass of the main class to which I'm switching? When I switch to my SK, will it remember I want my druid SoW as a favorite ability?

This sounds dumb to me if I'm even close to correct. Just drop the class facade, give us skills and be done with it.
Well they dont want to go with an entirely free-form system like UO had, I can respect that if their restrictions seem to have a reason. Also adding more classes seems to be one of their retention systems. Look at MTG: of course you could drop the color restrictions and make everything colorless, but that would just shortcut everyone to the optimum build and homogenize everyone into very few builds. So I think some restrictions allow for more longevity in the multicass system.

The first choice is what weapon skill set suits your playstyle and role, since the weapon skills are set. Then you can experiment with the other 4 skills until you find the mix you like most.

Im starting to think that EQN will lack functionality for weapon swaps so that you are basically locked into a single selection. This kinda hearkens back to EQ1 where you didn't really swap weapons at all (other than from primary weapons to a ranged weapon for pulling purposes). I think they will really try to reinforce having a set "build" and not a GW2 system where you swap weapons very frequently. I also think the EQNweaponsets are going to be infrequently shared amongst the classes (due to the sheer number of combinations)... so you might only ever have 2-3 classes max that share a single weaponset... meaning you'll only ever have 8-12 weapon abilities to choose from for your preferred weapon.

This also means Epic weapons will be meaningful as it will be your weapon of choice the majority of the time
Ok.

How I'll weapon swapping most likely not be a part of EQN? For melee classes at least, there will be a large difference between how their class plays with their 2 different weapons.

Is the red text supposed to be your proof? I am talking about EQN there, not GW2... and Im talking about weaponsets, not individual abilities. You seem to be misinterpreting what I'm saying. Let me try to clarify:

Since a class is restricted to 2 weaponsets... and there are a vast number of weaponset combinations.... having a weaponset shared amongst many of the different classes will likely be limited... For example, maybe only 3-4 of the 40 classes actually have the "Sword/Sword" weaponset.... or the "Mace/Shield" or "Mace/Book" or "Dagger/Dagger", or 2H Axe, or Greatsword, or Bow.

There is a max possible total of 80 unique weaponsets at first (however we should expect many to be duplicated amongst classes). The number of combinations based on the weapons we know could likely exceed 80, considering each dual wield combo is an individual set.

I'm NOT saying players won't gravitate to the most OP weaponset, just that if "Sword/Sword" is deemed OP then you'll only have 2-4 classes that actually have abilities for that weaponset from which you can choose from.

I notice the animation bit is brought up a lot nowadays in regards to weapon limitations.

While I like nice animations , I'd rather it not truly limit the weapon choices for a class purely for aesthetics.

I guess I have nightmares of SWTOR "we can't have night/day cycle or weather or anything else that helps make the environment interesting" to make sure our instanced story scenes look perfect."

Just seems newer more modern games choose to limit things at times that older games didn't ,and I guess it's personal preference which is more important.

You will.. For a price. Also if you do founders + sub, you will get bonus bag space!
Great, I will need them for my,

Boots of very high hopping, Boots of floating, Boots of extra chance to find rare shit, Boots of running faster, Boots of kill shit quicker, Boots of Kerran slaying, and another slot for my bunny slippers. When every pair of boots has a unique ability attached to it, you can never bring too many boots! I am such a pack rat.

Cookie cutter flavor of the month builds are a social problem though, you have it in every game. The GW2 example is recent but people refusing to group trolls, or refusing to group knights, or requiring knights because of snap agro, or not grouping druids are all an expression of the same problem. People with a brain can look beyond that and pick the people they play with based on skill and knowledge of those players.

So in a year once everyone is a Paladin & a Shadowknight the game is still badass because we'll have rallying calls, randomized underground, and world bosses?

I'm down.

Ya know, in all honesty... I'm old, i'm grumpy and yea i dwell on the past of how awesome EQ was. But If i just had to pick 1 thing for EQN and leave the rest to them, i'd pick difficulty, that's all. I'll adjust to whatever combat dynamics they bring in, or limiting factors etc..
I want an MMO where if i happen to not be able to log in for 1 week and then i come back, 90% of the server is not at max "level". I don't want to log into EQN on the first day after 5 hours of "up time" and see a level 60 running through my zone. All i want is an MMO where level progression means something and the mobs can kick your ass.
If EQN does this, i'll be happy.
What do time sinks have to do with difficulty?

Lol? It was said once only in reference to complete darkness in noob starting areas. You guys are the ones using it out of control.
Ya I never got it either, he said no dark nights in the T1 overworld but then they go on to talk about how they want it to be dark and require torches in the deep dungeons, which is way more hardcore than any recent mmo and people jump on the guy like he said he wanted to reward casual players for being casual by mailing them armor.

This sounds like a terrible standard to uphold.
How do you measure difficulty in an MMO? Outside of a PvP environment, it's not like this genre demands quick reflexes or much in the way of tactical thinking. The primary obstacle has always been time in these games.

There's plenty of actual difficult content in modern MMOs. Yeah leveling might be easy, but that's because it's supposed to be.

You say there is plenty of difficult content, again I ask by what measure?
By actually being difficult to complete? Heroic WoW raids are actually difficult. WoW has implemented difficult solo encounters as well, the Warlock Green Fire Quest for example. Hell, even TBC era 5-man Heroics are a decent example of difficult content.

At the end of the day, you're right - it's just pressing buttons and moving around, if you want to be daft and boil it down like that.
