Right, it needs to be understood that I did not link that video in an attempt to show a great looking forest. Simply to compare authentic grass and trees to cartooney grass and trees. Like in the demo video where the golem runs over the tree, and it jumps out of the ground and all the voxel boxes fall apart.

Jarnin is right, too, that maybe I'm in the minority by saying authentic is better than cartooney. I think cartooney looks bad. I also think an authentic look really enhances the immersion. But that's me. I really hope the game turns out amazing...
I'm done with "realistic" stuff until we get the honest-to-God can't differentiate between real and CGI visual effects. Sometime in the next 20 years if we don't get hit by an asteroid.

Until then I'll take Pixar/Disney/DreamWorks.

I don't hate the mechanics. Some interesting stuff. Its the misuse of the ip that's the problem.

also qwerty should have pulled his punches and waited for more info, might not have gotten banned
There IS 100% ninja's belonging in EQN you racist pig. I bet you hate all black people too. Ninjas are the enemy now? WTF! I am disgusted.

Your paint skills blew mine out of the water. Also, evidence reddit is filled with bigger nazi mods than rerolled? My pewpsocker account was banded for pointing out the rampant dev dick sucking. Goddamn nerd nazis.
I can't handle all the bobbin on the knobbin on that site either bro thats why I can't be on EQN.com. I have had more posts deleted than polls have been posted.

Teekey, you seem to just love everything about EQN.

Is there anything you don't like about it? An honest question
Teeks hates the lore a little bit, but loves gay looking cartoon faces, see his avatar. How can you honestly argue with someone that would make that their avatar? I feel like i'd be arguing with a 15 yr old, but he claims he played EQ1 at launch. Possibly a RL clingon or something, maybe he could be spock irl? Idk.

We don't really know enough about it to love or hate anything, yet. I'm skeptical about a lot, but I'm willing to try it out before I call it a failure, like so many are.

Maybe I'm being a bit defensive about it, but the hate circlejerk here gets a bit obnoxious and I don't mind trying to counter that a bit. There's been so many comments by people who don't seem to have really read about the game, and just watch a few videos and decide they hate it, and everything about it.

I mean let's be honest, watch this video:

Ignore Tony the Lion, and try to say that the environment looks bad or overly cartoony. But I basically get called a fanboy for pointing that out.

Hah, I actually made it my avatar because I know people hate the style so much. But if I had went with Tony the Lion I would probably get -internets every time I posted. I thought this was some kind of middleground.

I completely agree with you , will take "cartoony" over the realistic'ish things like that or EQ2 at launch.

But there is way to do cartoony without it being Disney. I just get sick of the Disney/Pixar look and don't get why they can't make it more "serious cartoony" for lack of better fucking way to put it :p

You can do cartoony without doing this shit , which is the point.

Eh, I'll go further than that. As designed it'll be great - it's freaking Diablolcraft + possibly eve. It's just the fucking misuse of the IP that's driving me nuts. Mangling what Furious said earlier, if this wasn't called EQ I'd be all fanboi about it.

Edit: It's like getting a bagel labled as a donut. Sure I like bagels, but if it's a bagel call it a bagel, don't go advertising it as a donut.

I think we've seen every part of EQN that's actually done right now. The two zones, two characters, and handful of animations they showed at the reveal. I think they hastily cobbled that shit together to make it seem like they had a huge game in the works, when really all they wanted to show us was that they're building a blank canvas of Norrath with voxels and they want us to play around it until they actually get around to building EQN. Oh, and while we're doing that, they want us to create and sell things to each other so they can reap a small profit off of it. While we're diddling our thumbs in that little sandbox, they can take as much damn time as they want to slowly build EQN.

I didn't feel that way at all at first; but after digesting this thread and others for the past couple days, in addition to watching the reveal again, that's the only conclusion I can come to at this point. I hope I'm wrong, but right now I think EQN is nothing more than whiteboard material.

Eh, I need to see what they've got at Gamescon and PAX (those are the next two, right?) before coming to that sort of conclusion. If those events involve them showing us something new (emphasis on showing, not telling us about things), then they may have more, and are just going with a slow info drip; if not, then you might be right. We'll see.

I think you're spot on and it didn't seem to me like SOE was hiding it.

EQ was great because at the time chat rooms were the thing and EQ was a chatroom with a fun game. Chatrooms are old.
What's new? Minecraft. Social Networking/Contribution.
Having us build the game is a part of the game, a part of the hook - and none have really done it before.

You know what, that's a fair point. Good call. I'm a little drunk and completely forgot that they have something planned for those two events. Though if I remember correctly, I think Ponytail mentioned having big plans for Landmark at the Gamescon. I may be wrong though. Regardless, I'll officially withhold judgment on "progress" until I see what they have to offer us at those two events.

If I make something epic, I don't want props or riches.. just give me one of those magical key cards for the black box so I can record myself swiping it over and over again and fade out slowly while flipping everyone off and going inside the magical room of gay lore and fucked up class system.

Tad, don't get too butthurt about the IP changes. They came right out and said, "EQNext is a reboot of the franchise" before they showed us anything. Shit, remember when it was revealed that Starbuck was going to be a woman in the new Battlestar Galactica reboot? People lost their shit for months. That turned out pretty great for the most part, minus some shoddy storytelling towards the end.

As the devs reveal more stuff, we'll get a better idea of the big picture. Yeah, the lore is rebooted. Shit will be different but kinda familiar. Personally, I'd rather that they reboot it instead of continuing the mish-mash of lore they had in EQ and EQII. Maybe not go as far as they did, but a clean slate might be just what the franchise needs.

There's a difference though from changing things and/or rebooting lore compared to going full "Ogres are buff and fit Orcs , starting in Qeynos, as Ninjas with a gun."

That's not an EQ lore "reboot" , it's curb stomping it.

Rewatched the video. Did not ignore tony - honestly liked his and the disney princess's movement. Their art style? well, that's another matter, but I'm ignoring that part for you.

I enjoy the look of the environment, you are right it isn't overly cartoony to me. But, the amount of ground the two can cover with double jump and especially with the crouching tiger item is a bit on the silly side. I try to imagine what that will be like with mobs everywhere and I'm not sure how that will work.

Ogres were buff in EQ, right after Luclin models were released. Ogres were buff in EQII. With the Luclin models, there was no lore reason for them to go from fat and snotty to buff muscular warriors, but people either went with it or used old models. And if their character creator is worth anything, it should allow you to make fat, snotty, ass-scratching ogres if that's what you want to play.

Qeynos being a starting city makes sense if you take the lore into account. If you've been ignoring the released lore, yeah, it makes no fucking sense at all, but whose fault is that?

As for Ninja's with guns... fuck it. You're venting. I get it. The thing is, if every motherfucker registered on this board is going to nitpick the fuck out of everything released, this is going to be a long fucking year, and this thread will devolve into nothing but qwerty posts. That dude spent like 600 pages talking about his vision of EQN, and when the infos got released he had a fucking aneurysm and ended up going insane. So who will be the next qwerty? Not me!
