The annoying part is that he hasn't provided any proof at all that that happens, but now I'm paranoid and I'm breaking down everything made of more than one material by hand. Last thing I'd want to have happen is to break down something with screws in it for some really common shit that the item happens to also be made of.

Speaking of scrapping... Anyone with 5+ tried out Scrapper perk yet? I'm having doubts about whether or not the perk will actually be needed. Stuff like screws are pretty uncommon, but not to the point that I feel like it would be worth giving up 2 perks just to get more. Plus there's the loss of caps involved in scrapping guns instead of selling them. Is it actually worth lugging back every shitty pipe gun that a raider drops just to break them down into screws, copper, etc.?

I'm pretty sure there are no crits outside VATS. Luck specifically says that it increases how fast the luck meter fills as opposed to increasing crit chance like in FO3/NV. Finesse no longer exists in any form. Sneak headshots outside VATS pretty clearly only do 2x (up to 3.5x with Ninja) damage.

Shooting ghoul and robot arms off is just the way they react to crippled limbs as far as I can tell, and that has nothing to do with crits, just raw damage.
I have the scrapper perk but its early days yet so I cant really tell you how much difference it might be making.

As to the paranoia thing- why not do a little save-scumming experimentation- take an item that breaks down into multiple components, find something you can make that uses some but not all of those components, stick it in your junk pile intact, make that something, then check if the leftovers showed up in your stockpile or not. Should be pretty easy.

Kinda interesting, never having played a FO game before. About 3-4 hours in and haven't left the little street of houses you start out at :p
Yup, that sounds about right.

I posted my experiment a few back if you want to look. Probably need a more thorough test with multiple items, but my results with the Aluminum Canister pretty clearly showed the material lost if the bench scraps it for parts.

Ya, I just caught up on the thread to see that. Dammit, now I have to actually pay attention to what is giving me my copper etc...

just got that 'sneak makes you go invis' bug, it was the first time I tried sneaking after getting rank 3 of sneak, maybe related? Only happens with the chameleon chest and while staying still.

It wouldn't be so bad but everytime I stop the entire world gets a bloom increase or something, this is really annoying, lol.

there are two kinds of people in the world: those who like to meet new people and fuck them, and those who like to wait until those people leave their house, lock pick their way into the house, spend 3 hours exploring every nook and cranny of the house, read every email and note they have ever written, eat everything in their fridge, sleep on their bed, and steal all their clothes, food, and anything made of metal or plastic.

If you are the first type then you probably won't like fallout. If you are the second, pervy creeper type then you will love fallout.

I'm alternating between Fallout and Tomb Raider, after 4-5 hours of Fallout you get a bit of fatigue from exploring every square inch of a meth heads house.

I hope there is a pork pie hat in the game, I named my character Heisenberg and I want to create a drug empire in the wasteland.
I laughed out loud.

I thought the same shit, searching jet heads and squatter spots gets exhausting but dat ammo and mats...

I havent touched Tomb Raider yet tho.

minor companion spoiler
maxing rep with piper gives you the 'gift of gab' perk. Double XP for speech challenges (lol 1cha) and finding new locations.

I was wondering how I'd know I maxed it, you get a conversation then a notification of the perk. No 'companion quest' that I can tell.

Is there a way to scrap things from workbench? Or is taking it out, dropping it on the ground then going through the build interface the only way?

Mainly as I don't want to lose materials, if you build using items straight from the storage.

until a patch or a mod fixes this, youre SOL....

from Fallout 4 Reddit:

"If you use an item with multiple components to craft something else, it will destroy the other components not used in the process.
For example if you were to use a gold watch as a gears component, it will destroy the gold. However, if you break the watch down beforehand, you get all the raw materials.
To scrap junk, you can drop it on the ground in a settlement and just use the scrap function in builder mode."
