Hahah yep. According to a few threads I read (reddit and elsewhere) anything that displays a banner is an ability.
Counter and Cover are OK but not Noctis warp or Dark Fina's counter magic.

I don't think Noctis's counter fails it? I did all the missions for todays exploration in one go, and I'm pretty sure Noctis countered a few heals from the trash. Couldn't swear to it though, IDK.
The only thing I used was normal attacks during trash to fill LB gauges, a tent before the final boss, and a bunch of limit breaks on the final encounter (it one shot him). All missions complete.

I faield this morning and assumed i just fucked up because I was tired. Decided to give it another go a little while ago with exdeathx3, m.fina, and noctis with a yun companion. Paid very close attention and did not use anything but autoattacks, magic (no dualcast just in case that counts), and limit bursts, and i didnt get credit.

I'd give it one last shot if you have the NRG w/o Majin Fina or Noctis.
My sewage party was Rain, ExDeath, Gilgamesh, Ling, Luka (w/ staff to get Cura LOLOLOLOL) and Daezuel's Lightning.

Guess I don't need to chase a second Xiao after all. I was thinking I wanted one fist for each Snow TM, but the Champion's Belt effect apparently stacks so the best Firion setup should be: Kaiser Knuckles, Genji Blade, Black Cowl, Crimson Slayer, Champion's Belt x2, with Dual Wield, Blade Mastery, Power of Creation, and Seal of Destruction (or whatever other 20% ATK you have) for materia.

Ive got them all ready to go except the last two materia and ofc the genji sword. Is he good at 6* or does he need enhancements too?

With the equipment Vorph listed, Firion 6* would have 880 atk (maxed atk pots, on Ifrit). His main attack is an effective 2.4x modifier. For comparison, Noctis's warp break is 4.2x and in BIS gear Noctis can break 900 atk.
Firion does +125% damage vs Demons, Dragons, Beasts, Plants, Bugs, and Birds. Against these races, he's great.
Things he doesn't have a bonus for are Humans, Aquatic, Machine, Spirit, Stone, and Undead. For any of those, he's a weaker option than almost any other 6* dps with the same level of gear (even Bartz will do more).
After enhancements his main attack gets boosted to 4.6x modifier, and some of his killers get even stronger, so he's significantly better.

Legend killer only increases dragons, demons, and beasts by 75% (on top of the +50% base). Against plants, bugs, and birds he stays at +50%.
With enhancements, Legend Killer is increased to +100% and also includes spirits and humans.
As for using him pre-enhancement, the big thing is that you want your finisher to be a single hit. Gilgamesh is currently the best with a 2.7x mod from Divider, except against human and/or weak to dark where CoD shines. Firion will take over his spot against anything he has a killer for. 6* Garland might take over weak to dark bosses, but I doubt he'll be able to overcome CoD's massive man-slayer advantage.
