Is Emperor as shit as he looks? All I see is a good TM since would have to waste a slot on Ultima in order to get access to a good dual-cast magic.

Planning on 2 or so 10+1 on the FF2 banner. Feeling whaely. Hoping for a few Guy and Leon and if I'm super lucky a second Chizuru.(I want to have fun chains Have 2 Shantoto sitting at 4* max sitting and waiting for 6-8 months from now too)
Speak of HP is there an objective point at which HP becomes a trash stat in PvE? Are there units which can perform a Complete Heal in JP yet? Seems like a stat which past a certain point is only useful for Arena to survive a turn or 2.

I'm leaning towards not pulling at all on this banner. Already have several Firions, Leon's TM is pretty useless without Gilgamesh (and Delita), and I would probably never get around to Guy's TM at all. Too many better things already in the queue, and a lot more upcoming as well. That leaves Emperor who I'd also probably only use for his TM even if I actually got him on a daily like Yun. I assume Starfall can't be dualed since it's a black magic ability and not a spell... ?

Can't dualcast starfall, correct, though it's 4.6x damage, so even single casted it outdamages every dualcasted nuke except a dualcast ultima/meteor (and it's far cheaper mana).
A dualcast ultima does 8.4x damage for 120 mana. Fires from below does 2x damage + 2x stacking per turn for 25 mana, +20% with imperil.
Dualcast ultima will run a mage out of mana on turn 4 (without outside help)
Fires from below is effectively infinite use due to Emperors 10% refresh regens more than 25 per turn
With imperil, Fires from below will start to outdamage ultima on turn 4 (or sooner with a "good" imperil like from Marie or Seven). Starting on turn 5, Fires from below becomes the hardest hitting attack on global. Turns 6 and beyond it becomes ridiculous. Can it cap a chain? I don't know the animation.
Emperor is by far the best mage for long duration trial fights that don't resist fire. If you want a burst damage mage, he's not as good as Fina, though you could just equip him with ultima too...
That said, he's still a mage, though he doesn't have mana issues like every other mage. He also just got enhancements in JP.

Emperor is crap and his enhancements did nothing to make him not crap. As for 'best mage for long duration trial fights' you don't bring mages to those fights in the first place. Regarding Leon, he is only the second 50% atk TMR to come out, but it is highly conditional and dependent on a sub-par weapon type. Prior to the addition of Lohengrin and Onion Sword it didn't really see any use on JP aside from Tidus, and since it presumably won't stack here on GL, that lowers the value even further. If it ends up stacking, everything changes, but that's unlikely.
I could see Emperor being usable for Gilgamesh since you absolutely must seal fire anyway, but mages are on their way out of the pve meta and will stay that way for many months to come.

Yeah, but generally people only use mages in arena now, so DC is the difference between 999 and 1998. Although I guess that doesn't matter much, as I'm sure Flare hits for 999x2 99.9% of the time being untyped magic and -SPR isn't actually needed against arena units. The downside is that it won't chain up to 1400-1800 like my Exdeaths using thundaga with lightning flask.
Anyway, I guess it seems like a waste for him to have DBM and not even use it except in arena, just poor design overall.

It's a good TM for Luneth too, if you have him. I'm going to daily pull to try to get at least one copy of Leon just to have. It's good enough that I want the option available for any future unit that may benefit, including possible global exclusives. Then again I already have Gilgamesh, and still need Firion, so this banner is a lot better for me personally anyway.
I'll admit I like the design of Emperor, and that's probably why I'm hyping him somewhat. At the end of the day, he's still a mage, so no one should chase him, that's for sure.

A RL friend got me into this game. He's F2P, despite totally being able to whale if he chose, prefers to be competitive w/o paying. He also refuses to macro, moral high ground and they don't do it in Japan! He can't beat current event on ELT, dragon too hard. Lightning has ~450 attack, no other hard carry in his team. My gilg at 800 attack is his usual highest companion that he uses when necesary, but i've had Primm up all week. He's tried the event 7+ times w/ various other weaker companions and can't get more than the dragon's life down to 80%. "self inflicted" i say w/ a grin But to make it easier, I thought I'd finish the dragon killer materia and put it on my gilg. My Skaha was 50% and my friend points were capped at 100k. I spent ALL day summoning friend units and folding them, probably doubling the materia I have now. The Dragon killer is the only one I didn't have I think. After doing this all day, Skaha is now 90%. holy rare free unit

The fuck you want 10 copies for? I know it stacks.
I've gotten super lucky with Dragon Killer I guess. Need 4 more... Montana is a little further off. Have a few of the other Killers completed.

Very likely to never really need 10 copies, but I want it in the toolbox for the option for the absolute extreme scenario where I want to use a friend unit tank with them having 100% draw attacks "passively", or for some cheese scenario of like building Ling for 100% evasion and putting 100% camo on the rest of my team, removing the need for a tank altogether.
Basically, I enjoy doing weird strategies like that! Rather have it and not need it vs need (want) it and not have it.

I was reading about the FF2 boss coming Friday, and one of the missions is no white magic (for a +15% hp materia). Wonder if 5* Tilith is good enough to heal it since I never pulled Luka. If Tilith's too weak for the boss, I may have to level up Primm as a non-magic healer.
So far loving the game, man wish I would have tried sooner...I hate fucking starting from behind.
Few follow up questions
1) I feel like I don't understand combat like I should as far as chains finishers etc based off reading your guys comments. I've looked around for some FAQs but most reddit ones are really old or not clear. Are there any you may suggest I look at to better understand? I know BF had a lot of micro combat mechanics that greatly influenced your success.
2) should I be doing arena or coliseums initially ? I think I'm at d-4 at the moment. I've done 3 arenas only and 1 was cake and the other two my team couldn't put a dent in one guy let alone their team.
3) team I am running everything with at the moment is 75 6 star lightening , just trying to get gold and cactus to level her but going real slow now. Then I've raised ExD to 4 star and lvl 40 so far, and switched my healer to Refia from the other high tier one (luka or whatever). So far she is useless to me.
Last two spots I was running the red mage with the dual cast TM since I saw Refia needs it to be the best healer. He is starting to be able to break a tiny bit but still useless at the moment. Last spot is Zindione or whatever I guess to work towards the TM and get lvls but also useless.
I have a max lvl 4 star Cecil but still getting mats to evolve him so I'll probably switch him out for Zin when I evolve him.
I can just finally sneak by ELT of the secrete mana vortex with a noct friend but it's still hard just because the stupid dark slime or else I'd farm that more (only have 2 noc friends). I can't do it with Rand friend as my team can't do shit to the slime, am I not using rand right? Also the ToLove highest level is raping me bad even with the good friends which sucks as I wanted that trust guy.
On the next banner should I be going for it? I have 20+ tickets and I think 9k lupus and I have no issue dropping 100-150 if it is worth it. I think the duplicate fusing to start trying to get closer to a TM might be good at least since I have jack shit for gear or abilities. I have enhancer and one other 61 str weapon but that's it for anything good.
Rank 18 now I think. I got Ifirit to lvl 16 I think so far. Does it show what % of his stats get passed on to the character using him? Those are passive right not triggered only when you use him?
