I doubt I'm going to go hard on the Tactics banner. Gacha rates are just so bad in this game. He might be one of the best units ever but I don't want to use up all of my resources on him.
I'll do some pulls for bonus units (I know in Japan Agrias and Gafgarion had a bonus but not sure if we'll keep it in Global) and I'll do dailies. I'll decide later if I want to spend on the banner. The last time I went all in on a banner it worked out but still cost me 25K Lapis and 60 tickets to land Noctis. Not sure I want to do that again.

Is that Divine Ruination chaining with another Orlandeau or with any other chaining unit? Chances of me getting 2x at 1% a pop + my luck = nil.
On a positive note, with so many people pulling hard for Orlandeau, he should be pretty plentiful on companion lists for bonus during the event.

I mean obviously I don't mean literally bankrupting yourself, but do you remember how much better Noctis was than the rest of the game when he first came out? Orlandu will be that much better than Noctis.
Just had another near wipe (in fact it almost certainly would have been a wipe if Ifrit hadn't been so low that I could finish him off by chaining an auto from Ling into warp break) due to three consecutive resisted mag breaks, but now that I'm bringing an Olive instead of another Noctis, lightning flask hits just about as hard as warp break when the lightning imperil is up, so I can just rotate between warp and flask to make it far less likely that a break wears off. Olive also ends the fights so much quicker that its less likely for the fight to last long enough for three consecutive breaks.
So what's the scoop on this upcoming event? The last couple have been pretty easy with strong casters for elemental chaining and then filling the rest of the slots with bonus units.

Pretty much all MK events should be the same.
So despite my middling luck on GL, I remain the Shitter King of JP.

First. And that was a single 11 pull on the new banner. I started with Eileen and Noctis (and DKC), and got Orlandu from a single 11 pull on the atk role banner. I don't actually need DV because his frames are the same as Orlandu, so I could just swap out excal for a dark weapon and still get perfect chains if dark was a better option than light for whatever reason. All I really "need" at this point is Roy or Ramza, because using my companion slot for bard song would mean losing a huge amount of damage since none of my units chain with each other.

So I started playing this game on a new account today (played at launch then quit). Starting 5 rolls were Cecil, Cecil, Zidane, Zidane, Firion. Yikes.
Talking to -Ao today I heard Orlandeau is dropping on Friday and will be some serious power creep. Planning on saving all of my rolls for that banner but in the event that I don't get him, is it worth throwing away that starting roll to reroll hard for Orlandeau?
Planning on keeping this ftp long term.

I wasn't gonna mention it since you said f2p, but if you decide you want to invest in a starter account instead of rolling from scratch, I have 4 accounts I'm selling ranging from a bargain bin 25$ starter with Lightning, Queen, and MFina to a Noctis/Gilg/Empx2 starter that's priced at 150. The middle two are Gilgamesh/Ramza and Gilgx2/Marie. All 4 accounts can field a full party of lvl 100 units and they all have Cecil (not every account has him leveled), a 4* base healer, and Ling, a recent limited time 4* base support unit.
If you act quickly you can probably get the account up to speed in time to earn Yshtola from the current raid, which you almost certainly will not be able to do if you start with an Orlandu reroll on Friday.
