Equipment suggestions not including limited time items from old events, or high end items from advanced colloseum:
Delita:
Chirijaeden katana (masamune or shining splendor vs fire resist mobs)
Eschuton shield
Green Beret
Paladin Armor
Hero Ring x2

Garland:
Enhancer sword
Mythril helm
Force armor
Hyper Wrist x2

Thief
Mage Masher (shining splendor if you have it)
Green Beret
Brigandine
Hero Ring x2

Exdeath
Fire/Ice/Lightning Rod (gravity rod if you have it)
Circlet (give him equip hat materia from Kolts)
Mythril Shield (stellar shield if you have it)
Mythril Armror
Hero Ring x2

Alma (please get rid of her!)
White Robe
Moon Bracer
Jeweled Ring

Suggestions: Burn Alma in a fire, she's a garbage unit that can't equip weapons or hats (so her spirit will always be trash tier, and lower defense), and she only has 2 materia slots. Fina is far superior, even though she's not so hot herself.

Thief is ok if you have a good weapon, but unless you can craft shining splendors (from the old event) then your only good weapon option for him is Enhancer. Sadly, you only get one, and it's probably more useful on Garland with his builtin Doublehand skill. Maybe it's better to give Thief enhancer since he gets a 300% attack while Garland only really has the 150% damage raging fist (from ifrit). Honestly I'm not sure which is better to use enhancer. If you have shining splendor, then you're fine anyway.

thanks. i was going off this list , thus removed Fina when Alma was added to the top 5 there.

Yeah unfortunately those rankings are essentially done in a vacuum. Yes she is very good at healing, but is a terrible unit overall. If you scroll down to the individual unit ratings, you'll see that she's only rated 7, which is pretty low for a 5* unit. It's also pretty generous, I'd rate her as a 6. Tellah, on the other hand, is rated as an 8. So while he isn't quite as good at healing as Alma, he's still a far superior unit. Cecil and Charlotte may be excellent tanks, but they're both shit units.

The list also doesn't really accomodate 6* units properly. Yes, a 6* Ramza is technically better dps than a 5* Chizuru or CoD, but that's only because he's 6*. In reality Ramza is a shitpile until those unique enhancements or whatever the fuck come over from JP.

That's.... surprising they rank her as 4th best healer. I'm kind of bored right now, so let's do a side by side comparison using currently in-game equipment, and not counting rare unit trust masteries. Both units are slotted on a maxed out Shiva (your best option with your lineup).

Fina: (gold staff, mystery veil, white robe, moon bracer, jeweled ring, mp+20% x2, spr+10%)
HP: 1901
MP: 269
ATK: 119
MAG: 157
DEF: 149
SPR: 260
Relevant Skills: AoE Cura (about 1100 healing), Single Curaga (about 1700 healing), Cheer
Exclusive Status Removals: Disease

Alma: (white robe, jeweled ring, moon bracer, mp+20% x2)
HP: 2140
MP: 287
ATK: 105
MAG: 154
DEF: 141
SPR: 216
Relevant Skills: AoE Curaja (about 1700 healing)
Exclusive Status Removal: Paralyze (sleep and confuse too, but your healer can just punch the afflicted unit for ~20 damage to remove those for 0 mp)

So, in comparison, I guess Alma's not as bad as I figured at first glance. She has about 50 less spirit, but has a stronger aoe baseline healing spell which makes up for it. Fina does have Cheer, which is a huge boost to your team, since 75% of your damage is physical hitters, so I'd still say Fina's the proper choice. 50 higher spirit means less aoe damage taken from nukes, too.

Yeah, Ramza without Barrage materia is pretty much useless now. I'm still not sure why I pulled at all on this banner after getting Agrias and Mustadio, but I can't really complain since I did get a second Agrias and another Exdeath out of it. Ramza really wouldn't do a damned thing for me now even if I had pulled him.

Alma's rating is 100% due to Curaja. Any healer without it is automatically ranked below the ones that do have it.

Ok I assumed you could do this because it's a Final Fantasy game but I couldn't figure out how to do it with the UI. So how do I do this?

Hold down on the unit you want to attack (their on battlefield sprite). It will bring up a window showing their currently active buffs and stats, as well as a button that says Target (top right of the menu). Click target, and it will put an arrow over the units head. The next command you give to a teammate will target your unit, so just click your healer for friendly fire fun.

FYI S-2 boss (Hell's Rider) is completely immune to Full Break. Ideally that's the one you'd want to farm once you get Blood Sword made, but it's going to be a bitch. There's the guaranteed reward of a Mega Ether and the chance of stealing an Elixir from it, but it's going to be a rough fight gimping dps with Zidane and a tank. I barely beat it using Lightning/Tellah/Exdeath/Kefka/Vaan, another case of it one-shotting everyone except Vaan and Lightning and Vaan was pretty much dead weight anyway. Tank required if you don't have Lightning imo, and even if you do have her and you want to take Zidane along. It's good to finally have a use for Charlotte though.

I lost my cool this morning after that Gaffgarion pull and sorta went full retard. Short version is that I'm just about out of lapis, although I should have enough to keep doing welfare pulls for the foreseeable future, and I still don't have Agrias. I did pull Butts though, so at least I can swap out Exdeath to make a pure physical party now.

Sucks about missing Agrias, same thing happened to me when I went all in for WoL.

Colosseum's starting to get rough in ADV rank S, but I'm still plugging away. About to hit the first S rank boss soon (chocobo eater). My only "tank" is Amarant, and I'm not convinced he's good enough with light armor and no shield. I think for break immune bosses coming up I'm going to use Agrias with a mirage vest on golem, alternating provoke and mirage (mirage lets you dodge the next 2 incoming attacks).

A tip for colosseum is check the wiki for the rank you're on. Most of the colosseum waves have a racial theme. For example, every single trash mob, as well as the rank boss of advanced A-5 is an insect, so the bug killer materia works on everything. You can really boost your damage by preparing with the proper killer materias. Also don't forget those effects stack (additively). For example, Artemios using Killer Bow junctioned to Golem with a bug killer materia will do +150% bonus damage to everything on A-5 adv. It helps!

Moogle Eater was super easy. Did basically no damage to anyone, even the mages, and died in two turns.

Undead rounds are still the best though. Kill off two mobs per wave with Terra and Tellah using Raise, and even the bosses aren't immune to it. I'm still cheesing every other non-boss wave with Tellah's Recall/Death trick too. So far the only things immune to it have been Belmodar/Armored Beast and Killer Mantis. Pretty sure the Wyrms in S-4 will be immune as well.

So, I'm hoping I can get some advice for a party to use (and equipment/abilities).

I've got:
Charlotte 3*
Ludmille 3* x3
Lenna 5* (3*x2)
WoL 5*
Artemios 5* (3*x1)
Zidane 5*
Firion 5*
Exdeath 5* x2
Shantotto 4* (3*x2)
Kain 4* (3*x1)
Alma 3* x4
Agrias 4*
Gilbert 4*
Galuf 4*
Miyuki 3*
Russell 3*
Roselia 3*
Duane 3*
Vaan 3*
Garland 5* (3*x1)
Cyan 4*
Rydian 4*
Fran 3*
Edgar 4* (3*x1)
Krile 4*
Shadow 4*
Sabin 4*
Maria 4* (3*x1)
Penelo 3*
Vivi 4*
Laswell 5*
Lid 3*
Fina 4*
Rain 4*

I've got a bunch of MAG 10% (on exdeath), and missed most of the event stuff (single gravity rod is about all). I have the recipes for other things though.

Any suggestions on a party/equipment/ability/esper? Right now it's Exdeath/Lena/WoL/Firion/Artemios, but I feel like I should be leveling some of the others in the list. I'm not positive that I have the gear made/acquired to equip the proper party, but I can certainly start on it.

My suggestion:

Lenna -- Gold Staff -- on Shiva
Garland -- Enhancer -- on Ifrit
WoL -- Chirijaeden or Holy Lance (depending on resists)-- on Ramuh
Artemios -- Killer Bow -- on Diabolos
Agrias -- Murasame (or Shining Splendor) -- on Golem

Lenna uses cheer, WoL breaks, Artemios barrage, Agrias blitz (aoe) or cleansing strike (single), Garland raging fist (single) or darkside (aoe).

I find it's better to focus on a pure team of physical or magical instead of mixing, that way you get more sparks and chains for damage boosts. Levelup Firion, Rain, Kain, Krile, and Rydia for their eventual upgrades. When the FF5 event rolls around and Exdeath gets his 6* upgrade, you can build a very strong magical team with Exdeath, Exdeath, Krile, Rydia, Vaan. (Rydia and Krile will have their 5* upgrades by then).

Edit: Garland will actually outperform Firion while they're both at 5* thanks to doublehand.

Just beat S-4 Frost Dragon. The annoying part was equipping a new group for fire damage, which meant dropping Kefka for Terra and then swapping in Charlotte to tank in place of Agrias (since I was pretty sure Full Break would be completely resisted again). The actual fight itself was easy. Charlotte provoked and all the boss did was 2x Bite per turn. She guarded on turn 2 but still died because I brought no healing, but the Heat Blitz/Firaga*3 combo won on turn 3 before it could do something really annoying, like Confuse everyone.

Really wish swapping teams around was less of a hassle, since I had to switch everything back to normal again right after to proceed into S-5.

Whee all espers at 2*. Also finished my first hero ring and have two more cooking. Advanced exploration is every bit as ridiculous for mats as pro is for rank xp.

So, what do you train on Ifrit after you have the two killer skills? Does it even matter at that point since your hero only gets 1% of the stat increases and none of the other skills look important?

I grabbed Power Break, Deprotect, and the optional 60 ATK to push him to 5320 ATK at L40.

Europa rematch was pretty anticlimactic. Took 5 turns because I played it super conservatively, with Charlotte doing provoke/guard/guard, Lenna doing Cheer and then healing, and Tellah casting Barthundara on turns 1 & 4. Lightning and Kefka just did Electric Blitz/Thundaga. Could probably knock a turn off by skipping Barthundara if you want to take the risk, but making the tank fully immune to Plasma is pretty nice.
