Well, actually, I did provide a qualifying statement. To me, there is nothing either 'fun' or 'entertaining' about spamming attack through 95% of fights and curing after battle in the original version of FF7s full turn based system, to anyone with a high degree of gaming/RPG experience.

This is of course, my opinion. Perhaps you find this stimulating (entertaining) in some way, and if I've offended your tastes for bending your right thumb at the knuckle with zero thought behind it, I apologize. My assumption that most adult gamers wouldn't appreciate this remedial gaming activity, or derive any entertainment value from it in 2015, was clearly presumptuous.

Well you're the one who got all dickish about it, I was simply making a remark re: fun being subjective (the concept rears its head on these forums quite often, surely you're aware), and offering my opinion that I find turn-based things quite fun, despite being an individual with a high degree of gaming experience and ability.

I find turn-based strategy to be quite fun, when you're actually moving around an area and location matters. Classic, turn-based JRPG fighting is pretty long in the tooth at this point.

Indeed, and I was more specifically talking about FF7, which looking back I should have been more clear on. I've gotten plenty of enjoyment from turn based games in the recent past, but FF7's sorely needs a revamp IMO. A movement/action dimension would be a huge improvement in this regard.

I'd rather go through that than "boy wakes up in town on day of festival, take 82". It was fresh, it was unique, and damned if the music itself didn't create a greater sense of engagement (I'm all for using music and atmosphere to add "spectacle" to a game). Frankly, I stopped playing when the concert scene was immediately followed up by running around on generic grassy plains.

If i could get through the 5 minute Jpop song at the start I would play that game every day of my life. That shit makes my dick shrink 3 sizes. Thats coming from a guy who liked "Eyes on me" from 8

It's not the J-Pop, it's the presentation. Simple and Clean and Sanctuary are some faggy ass songs, but they still got me pumped to play the game.

X-2 really did have a great combat system. Each character used equipment that limited the jobs available. Each piece would give stats, but would have various limitations as to which jobs you could use. There was also a limit in that you could only access 2-4 jobs in any fight, depending on which jobs you assigned to the equipment. In practice, you would end up with one tankish-melee girl, one caster, one thief/support, but with some flexibility thrown in.

It was a real nice contrast to FFX where everybody could do everything when maxxed out.

FUUUUUUCK that. I've played through FFX, FFX-2, FFXIII, FFXIII-2 all multiple times as well as the previous entries, but I can not even finish FFXIII-3. The battle system is the absolute worst trash in existence. It's the only game in the main numbered series that I hate with a passion. Anyone here claiming that FFX-2 is worse than FFXIII-3 is straight up wrong, jpop atmosphere be damned.

I can't even begin to fathom how anyone can hate LR's battle system. It was an excellent game on PS3 with 30 fps cap and occasional slowdowns, and it's absolutely fantastic on PC at perfectly stable 60 fps.

Not sure what FF12 has to do with anything, but it has a metacritic score of 92 and IZJS improved on the base game in every way possible. I'm fairly sure it's the people who think the game is a steaming pile of shit who are the butthurt vocal minority.
