The story, those "weeb aesthetics" are part of the presentation, and what elevates those dungeons/trials for many people: because they have an emotional attachment to them and the parts of the story they are attached to.
And there's even little details to push that emotional thing, like the "Duty Completed" cutscene. Up to Shadowbringers, when you do, you see yourself cheering along with all your team. And then, in those dungeons, your character is now looking forlorn and all "fuck for having to do that. Why so much pain". Just a little details, and it works.

Can you imagine that in WoW?

What weeb trops and aesthetics does this game have? People keep saying it but I don't think there's that many.

They can’t bring up examples, because then they’ll be forced to admit every western rpg is “weeb” as well

“Omg, dungeons and dragons and Everquest has monks in it. Fucking weeb shit, I’m not playing that game “

I'm getting deja vu, didn't this exact discussion happen a few days ago?

I gave an example: the entire Final Fantasy XIV video game. I even explained why it may become difficult for someone immersed in weeb culture to find the weebness in that example.

On the other hand I can't imagine any weeb tropes in EQ back when I played it. Monks definitely didn't give off any weeb stink and they were ripped from shaolin kungfu movie tropes that existed for decades before the weeb/anime cancer.

Did you try to claim that you were unable to detect weeb tropes in FFXIV then too?

So his answer is: made in Japan = weeb

Which is the real reason most people say “weeb” it seems when they refuse to give concrete examples. It’s like old people who say comics are for kids and have no fucking clue there is shit beyond Archie and Superman

Are you just asking for my weeb credentials or are you leaping straight to the accusation that people who have an adverse reaction to weeb culture are racists? I had almost two thousand hours in the game, so I definitely had no issues with its weebiness. I'm a longtime FF fan and I've been an anime fan since Macross and Patlabor in the 80's, so that ain't it.

I've given you and chris the most concrete example that matters: FFXIV is a weeb trope in its entirety. Singling out how the facial modelling and expressions are weeb, or how the animations are squarely within the weeb anime stylization school is redundant and unnecessary because the entire game is the cutting edge of the weebiest of all weeb franchises: Final Fantasy.

I can't even imagine why anyone would bother to pretend otherwise. Do you somehow think people who aren't exposed to weeb shit or hate weeb shit would ever mistake FFXIV as non-weeb?

Well, when I made my character, my first chat remark in the FC was "OMG, I look like a weeb now".

Meaning I'd made a male hyur, which is the furthest anyone can be from being a weeb.

(okay, that was a reaction from the fact that I couldn't make a dwarf, like any proper game, dammit)

Lalafel are canonically Dwarves. You can unlock beard helmets for them at lv79.

Yet you are the one who said not "like there is shit else out there to play right now", yet you valiantly argue your point here in long-winded diatribes about how the game sucks.

Yeah, we know the early levels and story are a drag. No one is even arguing that point.
I see. You think me asking when i got enough skills for this game to be considered a game instead of a walking stimulator was me shitting on the game? trust me if i were shitting on the game you would know it. Theres a fuckton of shit i could go off on about the overall game.

No i was focusing my questions solely on combat and when would i have enough skills to have a feel for the class i was playing.

Few people in this thread have taken great offense to this line of questioning like they personally birthed and raised this game from childhood and how dare someone not be satisified pressing 1 then 2 then 1 then 2 for 20 hours before they get a 3rd skill on their hotbar. But no, just simple and valid questions which have been answered by the majority of posters already. Thank you.

For warrior your basic gameplay loop is in place at 45 where you have 3 hit single combo, 2 hit ae combo, and both st and ae consumers.

As ... ... mentioned earlier, Palace of the Dead is probably the best way to get a feel of your class's lategame ability rotations without actually getting to the endgame. It's accessible around level 20 or something and doesn't require any crazy travelling (it's in shroud iirc).

In fact, I'd add that taking Palace of the Dead and face-smashing it forever is a reasonable approximation of the FFXIV play experience if you skipped through the storyline.

Thanks ill check it out.

Unrelated question about interrupts. Ive used this ability successfully once, on the first boss, primal guy ifrit? Or whatever.

In the open world ive fought plenty of things with telegraphs and the interrupt doesnt seem to do anything, from trial and error the interrupt never interrupts these telegraph attacks. In that boss he had a cast bar, with a telegraph. The cast bar was much quicker than the telegraph lasted, but when i used the interrupt and it completed its animation before the cast bar completed i got the "interrupt" success message on screen.

Is that how its supposed to work or am i doing something wrong? Complete my cast of interrupt before the enemy cast bar completes? Maybe things in the open world also have cast bars (i havent noticed any) but their cast time is faster than the animation time of my interrupt so it never succeeds?

Spells that can be interrupted will specifically have a flashing red outline on the cast bar. If it doesn’t, it’s not interruptible (they can maybe still be stunned if stuns work on them).

Abilities themselves work slightly differently than other games. The animation has nothing to do with the timing of the attack. As soon as a cast bar finishes, a snapshot happens. If you’re in a telegraph when the cast bar finishes, your position is held there, so you’ll get hit even if you don’t see yourself get hit by the animation. This also works in reverse where you can hop back into something after the telegraph/cast bar has finished and take no damage.

Ah ok red flash on cast bar, got it.

The way you describe telegraphs is how most tab target games with telegraphs work so no surprises there.

You know what is dumb is that you can buy an ARR story skip, but you can't buy a level 50 level boost. So the 'best advice' for getting someone bootstrapped to Heavensward is to boost some other class you want to play later, then unlock Samurai or Red Mage to take advantage of all the XP from MSQ. That, or I suppose buy the story unlock and play a tank and just spam dungeons to 50.

They really should have a 'skip to the good parts' pack that is an ARR skip and 50 boost combo item for any job. ARR is easy enough to pick up from Youtube and/or read about, and you will do the final two dungeons for the rest of your life anyway.
