This is what I'm thinking.

I do new fights on Paladin for Tank and White Mage for Healer as I find them way more forgiving, then branch out to the other Tanks and Healers.

Paladin has the easiest invulnerable spell and White Mage has more spammable AoE heals and the full heal spell too.

So which DPS is equivalent to that? Got all the Magic DPS to 90 now but they don't feel like it.

Bard is much closer with the freedom to move so I guess I need to check out Machinist and Dancer too. I guess it's up to if it's better to have buffs or not?
Bard is fairly simple but requires managing the 3 songs and 2 dots, which can be punishing after you die. For learning fights I feel dancer is a bit better in survival and bouncing back from a death. You're still fully ranged and can run a fight without ever stopping movement if you want, and the rotation and flow are very simple. The other option is Summoner, which is very close to a magical physranged in mobility and has the additional utility of a battle res.

Bard being higher than Reaper doesn't seem right, but then again I haven't kept up with job tweaks, etc.

Oh shit nice suggestion, yeah the battle res is nice and I already have Summoner at 90 because of Scholar.

Also has a heal which is nice on Paladin too for saving a wipe, Endwalker I could solo a lot of dungeon bosses and even keep a DPS up sometimes with that heal.

Well I'm not getting Bard to 90 before Elden Ring on Friday, so looks like that's my DPS option.

Red Mage has that too but I find it really annoying to play and need to stand still more.

One factor to consider is it's the end of the expansion and ppl are farming logs a lot, and comps that farm are usually gonna be the highest DPS(like Black mage/Monk) so when a support buffs them(like BRD/DNC) they get relatively a bigger boost to their rDPS, which puts them ahead of where they are usually.

You can check 6.4 values to get a more accurate depiction of their DPS. Even then though RPR is only very very slightly ahead of BRD. They did buff BRD mid expansion iirc cause it was hot garbage in 6.0(iirc they also buffed MCH by giving it another utility spell to compensate for its low DPS, the -10% dmg done debuff thing that can be used on top of the usual pranged aoe 10% dmg reduction to mitigate more things).

Generally speaking classes are pretty balanced though and the little % dmg differences don't matter all that much in practice as a large amount of people aren't close to 99 percentile(obviously) and most people are losing most of their dmg from fucking up uptime rather than the class they play.

As for Chris Chris question about phys ranged, yeah they have no cast time and relatively simple gameplay. MCH is the easiest to play out of them, BRD is a bit more complicated cause you have to keep track of more things, DNC feels clunky at times due to dancing BUT that's going away for Dawntrail for the most part(they're adding new skills that refresh the dancing buff so you only dance like once every 2mins to correct drift if needed, or can dance literally only on pull and downtime. That's obviously not counting Technical Step the 2mins dance that's a must do for obvious reasons). DNC personal dmg is basically the lowest though and if your partner sucks you're gonna get terrible parses. The opposite is also true, even if you're undergeared/bit shit, as long as you keep your buffs rolling if you're partnered to a gigachad BLM you're gonna get really good parses.

I completely passed over that was rDPS and not just personal. Makes more sense, and I do remember them buffing BRD slightly at one point, along with MCH.

At the end of the day I think you play whatever you’re best at in this game, the difference in dps isn’t like in WoW where first is miles ahead of last. If you aren’t doing ultimate raids or racing for world first savage, you should be fine whatever you play.

Keep in mind Chris that Mech requires a lot of quick weaving to play well so probably wouldn't be great for high ping. Uk to Cali would be rough.

Everything seems fine, no noticable lag, but I'd really like to check my DPS. But I'm on console so no mods.

I never tried the Stone, Sky, Sea stuff. I guess that's the way to check?

It's not about the lag so much as needing to weave Ricochet or Gauss round between every Heat Blast and also double-weaving them together between globals frequently.

I sit on 110 ping or so and I can /barely/ pull it off so I wouldn't want to do it on any higher ping than that. Mech has long been known to be a very ping dependant job.

That being said if you aren't Savage raiding it doesn't matter if you aren't being optimal as long as you enjoy the class.

No idea on Stone, Sky, Sea. I can just check my dps on fflogs after someone uploads a log. I find Unreal to be the best judge since it equalizes things.

Square Enix store customers will start getting their expansion codes emailed out June 24th. Pre-order early access codes you should already have and will be valid until July 5th.

Highly recommended to enter the full code before downtime if you can.

Ah right, so Steam code is just preorder not actual expac code. Don't see it yet.

You can't, they specifically say you can't enter the code until they do the maintenance on the mogstation. Mogstation is usually fine anyway, you can register during downtime after it comes back up or just like during the weekend. Only thing that sucks during expansion launch is buying anything on the shop as those are saturated and it can take 48hours to receive your shit. Have a whole week to get it done anyway.

Actual launch day i probably wouldn't. It's gotten somewhat better the last few launches, but expect pain. That said, taking 3,4,5 off seems like a good use of vacation time no matter how you slice it.

Bit sad it's for launch only and not early access, could have used that massive 1% xp on Pictomancer but I guess I'll settle for the random other jobs after. Anyway free stuff is nice and it isn't some randomized shit or have to buy products shit so that's great. I'll just leave a stream open in the background next week.

So hows this expansion work if you want to come back and start from scratch? I could never finish the MSQ, hell I don't think I made it past vanilla FF14, the "zone 4 times, kill 1 mob, return" MSQ quests were killing me.
