Good point - the combat content is really good this expansion so far. Shame it was so few and far between during the MSQ.
The best/worst one is the Cactus/Grand Canyon dungeon. Is shows what an interesting take on that kind of zone would be with varied environments and some interesting lore since there's a Ronkan ruin there inexplicably... literally none of that is in the zone.

Most of the dungeons are like that.

They have already said, the Fall guys event will be happening multiple times a year, just like how they run the Yokai near the release of a new expansion.

How’s the non story stuff been this expansion, the raids and ultimate better? Is the graphical update make a big difference? Kinda don’t want to skip an expansion but just have heard awful things and a few of the areas I’ve seen looked kinda blah

Both the Extremes(Sphene EX isn't happening till next patch) and the single savage raid series are amazing fights, although on the easy side comparing to past Savage tiers, but if you are starting out "fresh" in Savage it is a great starting point.

Next major patch is start of next story(which should see some shuffling of characters in/out.), the first part of the FFXI Raid Series(Jueno), Chaotic Raid Alliance(Cloud of Darkness on crack), Byakko Unreal, 2 weeks after next patch though, Oracle of Darkness(Ultimate, please have Ultimecia/Griever k, thx bye.).

In terms of new DOH/DOL equipment, 7.1 will be adding a partial new set right? I think the armour (not accessory) slots?

Correct and it will be shared gear, not individual sets. Time to get pentamelding again!

Since they nerfed spiritbonding there's not much point in holding on to the original gather sets in an expansion. Might as well upgrade and work on melds since it's all the same.

The crafted gear for armor/acc haven't been individual since Heavensward, no? Only tools, which we will almost assuredly get main hands and off hands again like we did in Shadowbringers and Endwalker.

Past few expansions the gear outside of tools that is crafted has been multi-role. It's only the base expansion scrip gear that is on a per-job basis.

On a side note, they REALLY need to open up that crafting job gear to be usable for more jobs. There are some really cool glamour options that just flat out never get used because they aren't practical to use on omnigear for crafters. And some would be great combat glamours, like the blacksmith outfit they added with DT or that lab coat outfit they added in Shadowbringers

On a side note, they REALLY need to open up that crafting job gear to be usable for more jobs. There are some really cool glamour options that just flat out never get used because they aren't practical to use on omnigear for crafters. And some would be great combat glamours, like the blacksmith outfit they added with DT or that lab coat outfit they added in Shadowbringers
It's been a request forever but they're really shit about adding more glamour options. Something something "yoshida hates black mages in plate armor" quote, even though they keep adding stupid non armor shit(and even some armored stuff for everyone like pvp rewards). It's weird how little effort they put into the whole system considering it's basically a very large part of what keeps them subs inbetween content patches. Like the bandaid fix in this patch of adding "outfits" but it's clunky as all fuck with weird restrictions all around and being limited to only a few sets. I really can't believe the database would become unmanageable if every char had a boolean list attached to it of having looted a given piece of gear and then having a glamour dresser that just displays that lists where you just pick any item in the game to copy its appearance on your own. Instead you have a 400(I think it was?) list that has the item ID and dye channel info for each entry that has to be changed everytime someone remove or add an item to it, and that's somehow better for the servers?

Anyway besides that, I'm really looking forward to that XI alliance raid, the designs look really cool and since the first tier already covers a bunch, I assume we're gonna get even some of the expansions in(other than Rise of Zilart which was a given). Also looking forward to ultimate progression in a few weeks.

Yeah I was just thinking can only penta meld the crafted sets, and those have been shared since Stormblood. The X.1 set didn't get an offhand tool until Shadowbringers, but it's been there for each of the last 2 expansions so still some work pentamelding those if you're going for the full shebang. Nice to not have to do 5 right side pieces for the middle set, though.

I mean yeah I know it's all spaghetti code what I don't really get is how it wouldn't be easier to just have a simple true/false list of all the drops per char rather than have the current system which saves more data per item, presumably. It's just frustrating because every couple of years they make some small improvements to a system that's mostly shit. I mean it's better than some other games that don't have a system like that at all, but it's just so much shittier than it could be. Ultimately it doesn't affect me that much since I only have a limited amount of glamours myself so I don't really get close to the cap, just weird that they didn't do a clean integration from the start.

The scrip gear is class specific. A lot of people use it instead of melding a set in 7.0 and another set in 7.1. The 7.1 set will last until 7.3 so a lot longer.

Materia is also a looooot more expensive for the first set every expansion.

Yeah when talking pentameld I didn't think we were talking scrip gear since you can't penta those.

Be interesting to see how prices for materia are for this set compared to 7.0 level 100 white set. Much easier to penta left side armor than right side acc. Definitely should have stocked up on more materia to sell, though.

The DRK changes(and slight GNB changes) to defensives is great, although like 6years late. The DNC changes are still weird, they did remember 4months later that they added skills replacing each other, but they haven't figured they also added temporary buffs that make the next cast free of ressources instead of giving ressources that can overcap and that they need to add that to DNC too(one of the cd is like a 50 dance energy shit buff, which gets overcapped all the time since you use it during 2mins windows which already have you generating a ton). It's pretty fucking weird that DNC has both mechanics and they somehow forgot about both of them in the expansion.
