Almost every MMO launched since 99 has had launch problems....

All of them. You are complaining about something that even Blizzard with all there money failed to do well.
Yea this is par for the course for MMO's. EA, with the shitload of money they got, had launch issues and their solution was to throw a shitload of servers at the problem. Didn't help there either. Rift/Tera/Aion had epic queues on launch day. All of these games launched in the past 5 years. This isn't a 1999 problem. It's a MMO developer problem. Ironically, the one game I can remember that has basically zero issues at launch was Sony (DCUO).

Well the problem is a ton of people pounding the servers this week won't be playing in a month and the extra infrastructure will be pointless. Didn't it take Blizzard like two years to upgrade their servers even with all the money they made?
Blizzard didn't make that money until after the game released and they had no idea how popular their IP would be.

Funny I don't remember rift swotr or anything since wow launch having any type of problems like this. If blizzard launched a WOW2 right now I guarantee they wouldn't have problems like this anymore. It's 2013 man don't give them a pass for cheapening out. Their forums don't even work, its been hell trying to get everything activated with multiple keys and logins not working. Their site won't let people register half the time before it came out it goes on and on.
The root cause of all this is server load. Those games you listed also had server load issues but were dealt with in different ways (queues, etc). They all prevented from the player from playing the game. You need to refresh your history, this isn't a new or unique problem to SE.

Thats not the same as not being able to log in at ALL because the servers are down. Not being able to do the storyline quest AT ALL because duty finder is down. Not having to create 3 different accounts and buy the game multipul times because your region code is wrong, I could keep going but i've been on every hour almost since launch trying to play so time to power nap.

yeah but infrastructure has changed a lot in the last 8 years. It used to be that you got a little (expandable) cage and had to build your own servers, all the datacenter provided was racks, power, and internet. Now with the whole big cloud computing movement tons of places provide on demand computing power so you can scale up and down with ease. I still would guess Square is managing their own cage though, cuz they seem kinda dumb that way.

Its 90% likely their problem is simply some bottlenecking, for example they may have a instance server registration which everyone has to hook into to register their class/level/etc. Works great to optimize duty finding, sucks horribly when every single player is battering one server. Not saying thats the problem, but its probably some architectural thing thats going to be hell to figure out and fix since the servers are totally fine during off-off-off hours, but as soon as more and more people hit things EVERY server dies, quickly.

I understand MMOs have problems at launch, they all do.

The underlying problem here is what seems to be incompetence in assessing and correcting this problem. What will this be? The 4th "fix" in the last 48 hrs? I have no faith at this point they're going to get it fixed this time or any time before Early Access ends. I like this game a lot, but this sort of amateur hour bullshit that really makes me want to cancel my pre-order.

Rift had multiple server down times its first week.

Swtor had massive population problems at launch. They had to add 31 servers that opening week just to get people in.

Maybe since this is your first MMO, you shouldnt talk anymore .

So basically Trion and EA and even En Masse knew how to handle their shit better than Square Enix.

They really do look like morons on the infrastructure side and decisions with it.

I never had a single problem getting in aion swtor rift aoc d3 like this game. What are you guys talking about d3 for a week? Most people killed diablow in inferno by day3. Que's arn't a problem they are a solution. But ya this is my first mmo so what do I know.

edit: go back to mmorpg.

So is this going to be a repeat of last sunday where we get no communication for hours since its offpeak for JP and the servers finally work at 11pm? Fuck, only day off this week.

well it is directly load related because instanced content was working fine early this morning- but really as previously mentioned it is poor design having integral unlocks and main quest elements instanced or through the DF.

I was 18 before i could get another class bc shit was bugged. i'm almost 20 and still haven't gotten to leave my starting area because of the lockout.

Lol 'problems'. It's called revenue management. They are definitely doing this shit intentionally.

Why the fuck would you open servers you potentially don't need at a cost? Airlines overbook, hotels oversell, MMOs under provide on launch day.

Better to just save all the potential money you can, piss off customers (who have already purchased anyway) and just apologize and give a coupon.

Welcome to the world we live in.

Trion did it correctly, they had a real open beta for there game. But still that first week was tough for them with servers going down.

Japanese MMO's are typically pretty, but are really rough on the infrastructure side.

Korean MMO's test for like 3 years in open beta before they lauch, which is all semantics imho. We know by now when we play a MMO at launch we are beta testing it. They can call it whatever they want imho.

It's the same BS they did with Neverwinter to cover up all there issues.

It's too bad, I had some free time this morning and was hoping to get some leveling in. Oh well, I'm not going to waste a Sunday while it's nice outside sitting here hoping the servers come up. Hopefully later today when I get home some of this will be resolved.

Sitting in a queue for 4 hours (ala Rift with a queue of 2000 on launch day) is the same thing as this = your not playing, your sitting at the screen waiting to get in.

Lol. Honestly thats the only reason this is happening they tried to cheap out. Bought some extra sushi and egg rolls when that money should have gone into servers for launch.
Japanese don't eat egg rolls, that's China

Lol hear that. I'm 28 with no subclass and level 10 class quest done. Had to reroll on another server at launch because gilg is not going to be fixed due to reddit. Can't even get airship quest to get to lima for subclass.

Again, never had that que. Maybe you should take macro actions into game to spam servers directly before opening and then spam abilities while you sleep and afk so you don't get kicked.
