And I really want this game to do well but shit like this make me feel sad for MMOs, not just this game.

If this was 8 years ago when I actually gave a shit I'd be mad. Instead I'm annoyed but will live.

Just want to go as far as I can before Wednesday when school starts and I won't be able to allocate more than a couple late night hours a week to this, at best.

Obviously their instance server cannot handle the load and it's having wide reaching effects on everything else. They made it seem they narrowed down this issue during the 6pm est downtime but I guess not. Their communication has been much better since beta so can't fault them for that. I think if this stuff is still going on post live, after the 27th the bitching is going to hit record levels, since people are paying money at that point.

I've preordered this game 3 times and canceled it twice from Amazon and played for at least 30 hours and haven't paid a thing so I'm not too angsty.

Problem is they made duty finder region wide so you have people from all severs in the NA\EU hitting the same instance server cluster and its just too much load. They should have just made duty finder specific to one server or a small cluster as one point of failure under this much stress is a huge no no.

On a side note, this game brings back so many good memories of Everquest.

My Conjurer can CC now, so Im playing the enchanter/cleric for the party using the same CC macro I was using in 1999.
People are amazed that I can lock everything down so easly, while healing, and doing damage.

I want to tell them this game is easy mode compared to the old everquest days.


One thing I do miss is a sense of community on a server. I wish the instances only brought in people in from your own server versus the cross server groups it does.
Maybe get rid of fates all together because they are really cheesy, and tone down the leveling curve slightly because its a bit to fast right now.

Thats interesting, and a great point - didn't know that. Seems a little stupid, and I've no doubt Japan isn't having the issues NA/EU are. Whatever. I slept about 7 hours last night, so woke up rested and raring, but can't do anything. Not a big deal, but annoying as fuck. Guess I'm going to get a quick workout in this weekend after all - damn you SE for forcing my hand!

I think they just took the NA/EU servers down, or at least, the list isn't responding anymore

Hrmm, if you are still in game and have crafting to do.. might be a good idea to do that. Just got booted teleporting to horizon and now can't get back in. Phooey.

Biggest problem is that they "stress tested' the duty finder in a closed beta. The policy they had for open beta was ridiculous. It would have been far better to do a 2-3 week open beta (of the scope of P3)withwipes, than the system they ultimately decided on. 3 days of open beta was no where near enough time to fix all the issues with the system.

Since it is hard to implement them during peak hours and that it might make the matters worse, we are carefully deciding when to do it.

So at Aug. 25 12:00 a.m. PDT, we will be implementing a maintenance to optimize the NA/EU Data Centers.

I lol. So they fixed it, I try to log in at 7am and its still same problem.

One thing that surprised me is how rigidly they stuck to a preplanned timeline they released way back in late 2012 early 2013 (forget the exact date). Their timeline ended up only allowing them 3 days of open beta stress testing. So if anything went wrong (which it did) they have to patch and fix and then it left absolutely no time for regression testing of the fixes before the floodgates opened. Its just mind boggling that they would only allocate 3 days for large scale stress testing.

Why wait until tuesday. This is ridiculous FF does suck apparently. How many other game launches do you have to see to know you need more server support at launch. They cheaped out, at least put a LOWER player cap on all servers so its actually fucking playable.
