Most would, but something happened back in '99 and I'm irrevocably broken. I just don't get anything out of non-MMOs anymore. I think it's because I view the progress in MMOs as more valid. Often, I play a game like Skyrim and get a couple of hours into it and keep asking, "What's the point?" I also like the constant element of the community and being able to socialize with friends. Right or wrong, I just don't get the same enjoyment, gaming-wise, from other genres.
It's a curse because this genre is the worst.

I never thought I'd say this, but I wish they had the world pass system from FF11 in this game, would have solved all the problems of not being able to play with your friends. I know that's the least of their issues right now, but woulda been nice. Square has always been behind the MMO world on this front, even if there were 30 years of MMO's they would still do it their own way and is mostly the reason the 1.0 abortion happened. I'm mad that I can't play but not at all surprised.
when i bought halo 4 new my discs didnt work right out of the shrinkwrap. what the fuck i didnt have this problem with cartridges. why dont people learn

Some people are saying this is more fun than they have had in years in the MMORPG genre, and I do not see ANYTHING different from this one from the last in the shade of shit that has been released. At least TSW tried something different. If it worked, which it isn't right now, and beyond all the fuck ups from account management to piss poor support, there is a shell of a game here that is like EVERY OTHER FUCKING GAME out there in this genre. I like the social aspects as well, it's why we play these. But watching as people defend camping the log in screen for another generic pile of shit underneath the hood is probably more entertaining then this game will ever be. All this game does is prove that the genre is fucking starved for something decent to play when shit like this is happening and condoned. Every mmo release except this one has been playable 24/7? The lol. I know there is the term white knighting, but wtf is that nonsense?
Also, played WoW (FAR worse launch), EQ2 (meh launch), AoC (not bad launch, horrid game), Swtor (bad), Aion (meh), TERA (think that one worked, can not remember problems, but can not remember the game either). Basically tried every mmo there is, at launch, trying to find that "feeling" you know.... That is never there.
However, with this game, I have woken up wanting to play. Not had that since EQ. Now the servers are down and I feel like I have withdrawals, even if I am a casual. And the solution you guys have to not being able to play is to cancel it?
Ut, you fun, you obviously know your shit about mmos, but dude. Other people have other experiences than you. Sometimes people even like the same old rehashed shit that you might not*insert deal with it picture here*

No need to cite examples from a decade ago when there are perfectly applicable ones from last year. I'm not defending SE at all. I'm pissed about the downtime and duty finder bullshit, I'm pissed because I lost 2000 seals due to a rollback last night which put me back at Rank 1 in my SC yet still took the 2000 seals I paid for the rank-up just before getting disconnected, and I'm pissed because I should be 5-6 levels higher than I currently am. But I also know that the whole fucking industry does this shit and I'm not the least bit surprised in this latest iteration.
Also, I rallied hard against the Gilgamesh choice, and this is a big fucking I-told-you-so. 2-3 other people tops took the time to post in agreement with what I said--which was exactly what happened in the end--and only like 15% of you voted for the server we ended up on, so you only have yourselves to blame for what happened with the lockouts.
ANYWAY
I updated my SweetFX stuff this morning. I improved (imo) the SMAA version and also posted a FXAA version for people who cannot stand what SMAA does to text, even when minimized as much as possible. See my sig for the link.

So I puzzled out the lore. At least enough to explain the intro video anyway.
X years ago a bunch of Primals showed up along with truckloads of monstrous squirrels and ladybugs and such hell bent on destroying the world. (Ifrit, Bahamut, Odin, the FF Summon crew = Primals) The big evil continent from the north - Gabranth, Garland, some g word... wants to kill them for their loot because they are all about power and world domination and such. 5 years ago, one of the two Golbez generals - von Snelling, the white one - gets the idea in his head to cast the Meteo spell (The FF7 literal fucking meteor version) to bring down the "moon" and wipe out the planet. Because crazy. At the end of FF14 you kill him and save the world in the most boring 30 minute raid boss video I have seen since Everquest. Except you don't save shit, because von Snelling's army invades Eorza and they fight it out while the moon continues to crash down regardless. This is what you see in the fuck-awesome trailer video with the epic song with the depressing lyrics sung by some white lady. Anyway, the moon is really Bahamut's prison/spaceship/love nest/something and he pops out and mega flares the shit out of the place, beginning the Cataclysm. The main Warrior of Light dude fails to stop Deathwing despite his attempt to imprison him with the power of all 12 gods (that arbitrary choice you randomly clicked during char creation) and instead he teleports his buds into the future (now or soon) so they don't die. Everyone else fucking dies. Oh, and that goofy blond guy with the fat face they keep showing in the video is Cid. He has an airship. Again.
Now, at this point the armies of the world are dead and Bahamut and his pals are free to destroy the world. Except they don't, because they crash out of the game and have spent the last five fucking years trying to log back in. That's why the world looks pretty okay despite losing its entire collective armies while all of the beasts roam about slaughtering the defenseless women and children.
An wrinkle to all of this it is mentioned that people seem to have strange difficulty remembering what really happened just 5 years ago. So either something else is up to explain why things are pretty okay for a world that should be nearly wiped out, or you have to go with my error 90000 theory.
Something else of note: The reason there are so many transvestites and effeminate men in Eorza is because all of the real men got wiped out in the war. All that's left are the people that gayed it up to get out of the army. So the current crop of adventurers is made up of gay men, ladyboys, and young molested children called "Lolifells" to denote their status as child sex slaves.
EDIT (thanks Chysamere): The Primals and most of the worlds magic fairy-dust was used up when Bahamut broke out and cast MegaFuckYou and broke Laililialiayliya's Mega Guard. 5 years later, the fairy dust is returning, which in turn is making monsters more powerful again, Primals are being summoned again in 5 fucking minute long mid-fight cutscenes, and Bahamut is powering up to return as soon as Vex Thal finishes getting populated and itemized in a future patch.

The game will die if it doesn't have end game content, or a decent way to keep players playing. Has NOTHING to do with the launch of the game.
