I don't know why people worry about this stuff. A game lasts exactly how long its supposed to. Every MMO I've played has been for the exact length of time I was having fun and enjoying. EQ was several years, WoW slightly less, most others weeks to months. There is no need to worry about where a game ends up in this spectrum. You play until it sucks and move on.
Yeah I agree. But there does tend to be a lemming mentality with these games more so than with any other genre of games. Soon as people start leaving or coming, the masses tend to follow. Obviously partly because of friends and family, but the others just tend to follow trends.

This game tough to tell what will happen. Granted you can always predict the safe thing and say it will be a ghost town after a few months, but keep in mind the game itself has gotten mostly positive vibe, unlike anything else that released post wow. So its a bit tougher to predict what will happen.

Is there a website that shows you what items that are dropped in dungeons and boss mobs? Like a WoWhead for FFXIV? I started doing dungeons and would like to know which ones I should try for.

I did sunken temple today as a summoner, I can't imagine a dungeon much less favorable to a pet class than sunken temple starting with the very first boss... Then you have a pet chasing down a mob that runs at low life... then you have mobs that have to die in exact positioning or they respawn.... First boss is death to pets, maybe they need to turn up pet's resitances even further to include something like doom... But even then we still beat it and I didn't feel like a hindrance to the group. Every other fight since hitting 30 I had been playing as a Scholar. I do think the lack of burst is a little bit of a problem, on the last boss, the verge's need to die preferably within 5-6 seconds, but more realistically within 10, either way, WAY too short a time for dots to be useful, I basically just sicced my pet then started trying to ruin, energy drain, then ruin again. If I had ruin 2 I'd have been spamming that, which actually would have been fine I think. I do think sustained against multiple mobs is pretty high, as well as on movement fights. On a longer "burst" phase, such as the rock golem boss with the soulstone, I have no doubt that a BLM would run out of mana prior to reaching the end of the "burst" unless they get lucky with firestarter/thunder procs. Especially since it allows a summoner to preload 3 dots via the bane mechanic at the start of each burst.
I manually placed my pets on the panel. it worked ok. But yeah, last boss, as a summoner, it was a fucking problem...one that wiped us several times...

Having "servers" is such a flawed design these days. They are wasting tremendous amounts of time, money, and the customers patience.

They're going to have a zillion full servers this month. More needing to be added. Sales of the game actually suspended because of this!

Next month they are going to have a zillion servers at current capactiy/2. The following month will be launch capacity / 4.

Then they're going to have to figure out server merges, the PR for it, the in game systems for people to pick new player names because they'll no longer be available, and dozens of other little things that just add up to a huge timesink.

Anarchy Online was the first (that I know of) to do instanced zones correctly. City of Heroes followed on that and made it work very well.

They need to have one fucking server - don't even call it a server. It's just a game - FF14. You just play it. Each time you zone you're shoved into a zone preference based on your friends list, your linkshell lists, and your free company lists. You're put in SOUTH SHROUD 94 because there are a bunch of FC dudes there. You join a group, you hit O, you click a button that says "teleport to leader's shard" and it casts a teleport spell. You're now in SOUTH SHROUD 47 with your group leader.

Then when the game contracts in 2 months (which we all know will happen. It happens to every single game) you no longer have SOUTH SHROUD 94 available. There's only 20 instances of south shroud running right now. 4 months into the game? There's a handful of each 1-10 instances running. People can kill their mobs, people can find each other in game, people can BUY THE FUCKING GAME.

Having these problems is just so bad. It's been fixed before, for fuck's sake! Hell, they should even get rid of unique character names. Because that's also been fixed. But that's another post.

People this week have already started talking about Wildstar in mumble and saying they might not renew after 30 days and just play whatever which is sad, I like the people in ISIS and been having a blast in FFXIV =((
Why would anyone be talking about Wildstar in a way that effects FFXIV? It's at the very least 6 months out.

I have this beat.

The Dzemael Darkhold is the WORST damn dungeon in the history of dungeons for mele/tanking. Who thought it was fun to have choke points that are so narrow your camera zooms all the way damn near to 1st person. Then let's add roamers that can't be seen until on top of you sometimes, because of camera zoom!

Better yet. Let's put ranged mobs next to crystals that have a nasty aoe! Where the only way for me as a tank to get them to move, is to hope that I proc shield swipe (shield slam did nothing bt keep em in place) off before mentioned roamers, so they stop their damn casting.

Better yet again! Let's have a boss that needs to be dragged from spot to spot in some purple goo that's next to a stalagmite so you once again get a silly camera angle, that doesn't allow for me to personally see where the fuck the next goo is, because I need to watch my positioning, less I step outside that purple goo! (catches breath). So I need to rely on Billy Bad Player to actually look up from his PS3 controller, to make sure he is hitting the right buttons, to tell me when the next goo spawns.

Better yet twice again! Let's add a final boss fight where mele spend more time dodging shit than hitting the boss. And IF they don't dodge in time because the AOE "tells" in this game are all fucked up.theyjustfuckingdie.

Now.although I just ranted, we cleared the dungeon in no time at all. It just wasn't any fun. Not even a little. I will just avoid that place. The biggest thing they need to fix, is the tightness. The camera zooming in and out on rotations because of it sucks. I wish things that aren't walls would just go transparent.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you just accurately described Karnor's Castle.

And I really appreciate that about this game.

Its too bad aside the story dungeons and the end game ones for tokens no one is doing them because of fates. Instead you have 50 jackasses running around in a zone fate to fate.

Hah, 50 is a severe underestimate ;-). When your sound constantly clips, and half the time the enemies are getting culled.....yeah, it's more than 50.

As much as I'm enjoying the game , old school feel in some ways , and compared to the absolute shit that's been released the past few years and none of the current "big" games about to come out in spring that I've done betas in both are anything I'm going to play at all ( wow with space guns and ESO ), I can see myself playing this at least through beginning of next year.

There will be a drop off sure , but ghost town on all servers in 3 months I don't see happening at all.

Nah. It's not even safe to say this will be a ghost town game in half a year.

I was at 1.0 launch and it was one of the worst games content wise I'd ever seen. Throw in the awful chat, the 'Rested Bonus' fiasco, disconnects (just like now), and copypasta maps and you wonder how this game held anyone at all.

Yet, you go around this game or read the officials and you see not just a few 50s, but craptons of them; people that stayed and grinding Efts for hours on end in one spot. Personally I got about 1/4 of the way with all my classes before my eyeballs just couldn't take the boredom due to no content.

SE knows it's base is a pretty dedicated bunch, it's one of the reasons they redid this whole game in the first place. They wouldn't have done this if they didn't think people would come back, and look at the game now.. it's nothing but people coming back.

Doesn't matter what comes out (Wildstar, really?) because just off the Japanese base alone this game isn't going anywhere. They are basically taking the same approach they did with FFXI; court the base.. everyone else.. yeah, we like you but if you can't deal, take a flying hump which is exactly the way you make an mmo unless you want to end up like Rift two years out.
