Not saying they won't make more tank jobs, just saying Ninja won't be one. Ninja was only able to tank in FFXI because players spamming a ninjutsu that stopped the next 3 attacks from doing damage - by the time the devs figured it out they couldn't nerf it without pissing a ton of people off (similar to Complete Heal in EQ) - Ninja was intended to be a heavy ranged DPS class.

It would make sense for the new ranged base class to be able to have a ranged tank and support job, AKA Musketeer and Corsair.

Im just saying that if they add "ninja" everyone and their brothers will be rolling one because ninja. So it would make sense making them tanks, forget FFXI. Ranged and tank dont mix IMO.

Making ninja a tank and everyone wanting to play them is a recipe for hilarious disasters. Btw we already have a ninja tank, that class is warrior.

Musketeer would make perfect sense as a ranged tank - shotgun blasts and lots of bayonet badassery.

They have already said that the gun class is the next base class in development so if you want a new tank that's where it will have to come from in the short term.

In Anarchy Online, there was a period where the soldier class worked well as a ranged tank - had some fun reflect shield mechanics too!

Eh, I guess I'm looking at mechanics. If the mob is going to melee a ranged tank, how does it work? I'm missing a fundamental understanding of it.

Spell casting mobs really is the only good way to do it which makes you need to do about 50/50 bosses. I don't know how else to effectively do it.

They could just build corsair a beefy ranged class. Make it so that they have a slight advantage on fights that require you to stand at range (ie: large aoe spell targeted on the main tank, or lots of movement) slight weakness whenever you're unable to attack at range (maybe 1 attack chain with a minimum range, would be great for picking up adds since in my theoretical build they would lack access to provoke), they could have cross class warrior for self healing/dot and archer for DEX buff, dot, and dmg buff.

Make them ass tough as a warrior, but trade off the self-healing for damage at range and damage while moving at range and it would be a very popular class. Throw in 2 dots from the base class, and you could have a dot-centric tank for steady damage, even if you're forced to kite.

Corsair was a luck based buff/ranged dps class in FFXI - and since they made Bards DPS instead of support in this game it would really make sense for Corsair to be a support class.

You give them two pistols or a shotty with high parry and doge rate then face tank like all other tanks.

SWTOR had ranged tanks, mostly the difference is if the boss is ranged, you can stay away from it, otherwise you're tanking in melee range. Also picking up adds and such is a lot easier when you're ranged obviously. Nothing special about it really.

Anyway if they were to add a tank I think they'd go for an easy one, DRK. Just make it branch out of MRD and you're pretty much done, MRD has 2H, damage shit, lifesteal shit, make DRK specific weapons scythes but let them use axes still, it's a bit of a departure from the current system where jobs use the same weapon as the base class, but it's the easiest way to go about it and that'd let them apply the "different weapon" thing to other classes to populate jobs without trying shit too hard.

Damn I was excited at this title, but Ill be damned if it isnt going down quick again. This has turned out to be nothing more than Final Fatesy. Literally unless someone is doing an instance the one time for story mode, its just follow a zerg and tag a few mobs from basically level 5-50, and then you can just do that again a few more times for whatever class you want to level. Harvesting is so bad and boring that you literally see bots everywhere that have stealth cast and warp from point to point....and crafting is basically 1 macro set to repeat all night long.

The amount of automation is retarded. I see toons everywhere, but most are automated /sigh.

Yep. For me nothing drains the will to sub more than a complete lack of support. You report the same teleport gathering bot, nothing. No fixes for the gold spam as always. Just thanks for the money, now go away. I'm not expecting EQ1 Stormhammer(was that the premium server back in the day?) gamemaster service, but damn if it's the wild wild west in this game. This was why I initially quit RIFT. I would mainly pvp(yeah yeah I know...), and it would be the same asshats afking each battleground, GMs would do *nothing* for months. Apparently FF14 is having a spate of afkers in instances too according to the official forums. Luckily it's easy to boot them out! Oh wait...

They're banning bots in waves, which seem to happen every week or so. Don't see them getting banned overnight, but a few days later generally every single bot is gone(and some new ones have replaced them).
