Click the little chat bubble icon to the left in your screenshot, then select general. The game saves whatever state you are typing in as default, so you'll stay in tell mode if you just type random words to that guy unless you back out of it. I'm sure there's an option to turn that off somewhere in preferences. I leave it in general mode and just use the / commands for chatting to specific channels/people.
aaaaah very nice ty lol.

It's not like EQ2. You have to do it like this:

"/tell Kid Kai"

"[message]"

You can't pick a player and send a message in the same line.
Actually, you can, but the game is picky about it:

/tell [NAME][MESSAGE]

You must use the full first and last name for NAME, without quotes, and you must spell it perfectly. Case doesn't matter.

Huh. I never used to be able to do that, but I just tried it again and it worked.

Well, if you were looking for grinding answers, you might want to level the sub classes for machinist so you have access to the right abilities. Summoner shares nothing with them; you'll need to level archer and lancer to get the requisite abilities to fill out the sub-job stuff for machinist.

Just finish up the main storyline and you are xpac ready, though.

Small annoyance... tanks that hit 44, have zero gear, and expect to be able to run through DD 1st room runs. Skill certainly has something to do with it, but for the most part, you can't have 2500 hitpoints, and live through it no matter what the healer does.

Edit: Ding level 50! Let the real grind begin!

You get free tank gear at 45. Suck it up and play the game normally for one level

You can actually survive that room fairly easily even with shit gear. Well semi shit gear, if it's lvl 25 white gear probably not, but otherwise it's doable, the purple shit reduces damage taken A LOT which is how the thing is even doable in the first place. That said DD first room is PF stuff and in PF you can check the tank's gear first so shouldn't be an issue.

PLDs have a much easier time than WAR. WAR needs to be very mindful of their cooldowns and the healer's cooldowns.

Got all caught up and ready for the expansion over the weekend. Is there any particular gathering class that is decent for Gil? Picked up fishing, but a friend told me it isn't very good at making money.

Well, if you plan on doing a lot of gathering right after the xpac release, you might be able to make some decent cash farming mats for the new tradeskill stuff. But with the sheer amount of players at cap with gatherers, it might be a pretty bloodthirsty and quickly diving market. I imagine on Gilg that the market for non-timed/rare spawn mats is going to start alright and then bottom out with a quickness, with the other gathered mats falling quickly down there as well. Largely it is going to depend on how the crafting stuff is gated and if you need obscene amounts of gathering/perception to even swing at nodes, which would make the first people to them the ones that set the prices. The upside is that crafters in general are pretty rich, so they will probably drop quite a bit of gil on easily farmed crap just so they don't have to run out into the field.

Since both the actual gathering classes are spread among the various crafting disciplines, you'll get a lot of mileage out of either one if that is your intent. But man, you have a lot of very mindless grinding ahead of you to get them to the point where they will be poised to make money with the expac. Even with max rest xp and leves and using the scrolls from the grand company, that shit still takes forever and is incredibly boring. I'm finally working on finishing off my botanist before the xpac, and the repressed memories of when I did Miner have definitely come flooding back.

Finally got caught up on just about everything, still have just 2 hard dungeons left to clear out then I'm totally caught up. I didn't realize the hildebrand quest line was so... long. But did the whole thing last night.

Working my way through 2.0 content, and on the "Ultimate Weapon" quest. Ya, way behind.. lol. Curious, will I know when I switch to 2.1 and 2.2 quest content? Is there a noticeable divide? Not that it matters, just keep on grinding, but was curious. Thanks!

It's crowded because it is the only place you can spend tokens on token gear. Once you get to farm mode there is really no reason to go anywhere else.

idk how you guys are plowing through the story i fucking am slogging along god i fucking hate quests

Are the new classes going to have a story quest that takes them to 50-60? or are you expected to just lvl them through fates till 50? then continue with the xpac story.
