So one of my monitors just died... which I guess is fortuitous timing? Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals?

I fucking hate shopping for monitors, its honestly the most bullshit consumer space there is as far as I'm concerned. Just tell me what goddamn monitor I should buy. Pretend I'm a millionaire

I just want a good monitor probably 27", general purpose with some gaming. Or just sell me on some badass wide-screen that can replace both my monitors and completely kills my boners by showing me exactly how ugly most porn stars are.

In seriousness is it easy to set that up as a faux dual screen for gaming and just general computing purposes?

Depends how much you change stuff while working. Win11 or some other apps (maybe power toys) have decent quick docking. If I'm swapping a lot of apps constantly and moving stuff around a lot, having just an ultrawide might be slightly irritating. It's certainly 'quicker' to just double click the window title bar and maximize in each monitor. It's a give or take though.

Also if you play a lot of legacy games, you will have a lot of black bars so you might just want to stick to normal.

Hrmm okay, ultra wide is out, so who has a good recommendation otherwise?

The Alienware can go fuck itself but the LG looks good. Might even buy 2. Anyone got personal review on that?

Why? Alienware/Dell make some of the best monitors (usually with LG panels).

Also woops that 27" was the OLED one as well. They make a nice IPS version of that a bit cheaper, if you don't want OLED. So that's their brand new panel this year.

My understanding is that LG still holds exclusive license rights to OLED panel manufacture for TV/Monitors (and Samsung has it for phones?) from UDC. So why buy from anyone but LG if going OLED?

Thanks for the help, no hemming and hawing this time. Gonna replace both. See ya on Friday boys (It was on amazon for the same price + no delivery fee and Amazons logistical mastery)

Well the panel is only one component of the whole build. Have to drive it and housing/stand/build quality/etc.

Cool hope they work out well. Or you return them if you don't like.

How accurate/good is RTings.com? Been scrolling through for the last few weeks and every review reads the same. Are all “top” monitors at this time pretty similar in quality?

Was going to pull the trigger on the AW3423DWF but are 4k monitors really that much better?

The Dell monitor uses a Samsung QD-OLED panel and the LG uses an LG WOLED panel.

The QD-OLEDs generally look better color- and text-wise while the WOLEDs can handle a wider range of refresh rates.

About as good as it gets. They have scientific, objective tests for everything you could want. Tftcentral.co.uk does a bit deeper testing on metrics you probably don't care about, but is less readable and has the budget to review way fewer monitors and TVs.
