They pulled back most of the combat features and went full fledged into the puzzle adventure aspect of it.

I wouldn't completely hate that - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was a puzzle adventure

The real question is where did all the “average nerd” devs and writers go? Seriously, it amazes me how few fruitcakes I see in traditional engineering positions. But I go ask for some custom program shit and “oh fuck. It’s a goddamn they them.”

So game development is ten times shittier than programming for any other thing.

You can work in an industry known for underpaying you, working you to the bone, and also being full of fags who don't listen to you and instead force you to make their shitty vision. Or you can go work at any other company in any other industry and program boring old accounting software with much more chill and significantly more money.

My company has like two they them freaks and the rest are boring middle aged men with families who are generally no nonsense. We get a lot done lol.

How or why are they underpaying with the budgets they have nowdays?

Yet we have things like M&M that is producing PanTheon and they are all essentially working for free?

Well it is presumably pretty easy to have time to play D4 when you don't see your kids and your work consist of a couple of monthly reunions to check what's going on.

I think he was an unlikeable cunt well before buying twitter so people stopped blocking him while promoting selective free speech and then all the Trump's campaign stuff which is whatever. I just wish I wouldn't have to hear about the new Elon or Trump stupid shit every single day. This includes wet dreams about him making a game company and somehow it being super good because he totally gets gamers.
You are going to have soooooooo much fun the next 4 years. Buckle up. buttercup!

You essentially answered your own question. People have a soft spot for games so they're willing to take less to work on one. It doesn't matter if they could pay if the developers are willing to take less to be a part of it.

First you have a group of degenerates who fancy themselves as "creatives" and also have an agenda that they want to push. Games are a perfect fit for the ones into programming and design, and for the writers it's a lot less risky than trying to make it in Hollywood (especially considering they don't actually have any talent to begin with).

Second, said degenerates look and act like degenerates, which even in the current times of DEI, ESG, etc. is still a hard sell at most normal businesses. So their prospects are limited and game studios figured this was a win/win since they can pay them considerably less than a well-adjusted, sane person. At least until they release a Concord anyway.

And finally, in actual dollar amounts the salaries don't appear to be that low, it's just that game studios have all gravitated to the most expensive places to live in the country.

The problem with his approach is it’s not targeted specifically enough.
Gates and co. certainly wouldn't be looking to eradicate stupidity. Who else is going to live in the pods and eat the bugs like they want them to?

Game companies have enjoyed the ability to underpay developers for decades. Years ago I applied to EA for a programming role but not for games directly. It was a backend infrastructure engineering position.

I asked them for 10% more than I was getting paid at the time. Which was like $85k for a job that would move into mid-level engineer. Their recruitment told me directly that they wanted people who wanted to be there and that the position would start at 15% less than I was getting at a non-game studio big corporate job and that that was non-negotiable.

That's the story of how I never worked in games! These massive budgets aren't going to the developers I assure you. Because games are cool they can openly underpay their dev staff and employees just accept it. This is still true today.

Imagine trying to negotiate in good faith from this position against anyone with a modicum of self respect. The ONLY reason big corporations push DEI is because they know they can get away with this to victimization groups who are willing to sell themselves short because, well, they're a victim.

The only way you can negotiate like that is if you pay it somewhere else, massive PTO, stocks, equity etc. How am I supposed to work for somebody that doesn't respect me?

Is "you want to be there" corporate speak for "get on your knees pleb, it doesn't suck itself?"
