In some of the fantasy books I've read that have similar laws, there's usually a guy whose job is basically "champion of the realm" or whatever, and of course he's the best swordsman in the kingdom and all that. So, choosing the trial by combat option is usually something you want to avoid, unless you can rig the fight, or have a fuckload of faith in "the gods."

Is Jaime the champion by default, or does someone choose and if so who? Would appreciate an answer, in pm if necessary.

Also, isn't the Dorne prince unable to fight for Tyrion? Wouldn't it be some kind of conflict of interest, since he's a judge?

Once combat has been requested there is no more conventional trial. The only judges are the gods.

Well if we are to use the trial by combat that happened at the Erie as a template then the crown can choose anyone to be their champion. At which point I think it then opens up the possibility for the accused to use a champion. If neither side choose champions then would it be the crown vs the accused meaning Tommen vs Tyrion? That's funny shit and obviously would never happen, just wondering what the official "rules" are.

The fight is between the accuser and the accused. Each side may choose a champion if they are not a man of fighting age. In season one Tyrion got to choose a champion because he is a dwarf.

Yeah, I can't see a duel between the Cleganes having an ambiguous ending.

I have a secret hope that Cersei ends up picking some asshole like ser Meryn Trant but Tyrion chooses to fight for himself. Tyrion then goes into a dwarvish blood rage and just fucks up his opponent leaving the crowd stunned. A nikka can dream can't he........

Tyrion can't catch a break. Twice now being accused of shit he didn't do, and can't prove he didn't do it, so has to demand trial by combat, and can't even fight his own battles. That is fucked up. Might as well change his nickname from The Imp to The Patsy.

Well maybe if the king orders them to stop 3 seconds in. I don't think anyone is bossing either of them around much at this point.

Tyrion thought he wasso fucking smart, and now his words and actions are coming back to haunt him. He thought he knew how to play the game, but he was no better than that fairy Ned Stark. If it's the gold cloak guy who testified against Tyrion and was Joffreys protector that has to battle Jamie, and Jamie fucking dies, I am fucking done.

No I'm not, but come the fuck on.

That's kinda the point. No one wins the Game of Thrones. You just manage to not lose for a little while.

If you're as smart as Littlefinger, that's all you even want to begin with.

If Cersei wants to win Game of Thrones, she nominates her pillow biting fiance to fight for her, and then Jamie takes him to the woodshed.

That would be amusing, but I think Cersei wants Tyrion punished more than she does not want to get married to the Tyrell guy. Also, the Tyrell guy can refuse!

I also think that the accused champion must volunteer to be the champion not just be appointed... so it would be awesome wtf bbq if Jamie volunteers to defend tyrion as I think that's the only way he would get a champion. even trial by combat is in the crows favor as I belive they always can choose while the accused has to do it himself or have a volunteer.

And if the crown chooses Jamie, hopefully tyrions sell sword dude shows up, seeing as he trained jamie.

These theories are retarded as fuck, the only way Sandor fights Gregor is later down the line against "Robert Strong."

During the small council meeting, who did Tywin write a letter to? They were talking about Dany, her dragons, and Mormont, but I think they left it unclear exactly to whom and about what he was writing the letter.

Even if they fight this season or something, Sandor monk priest will eventually kill Undead Mountain.
