I know right...thanks Carl Sagan avatar guy.Oh shit, nerds arguing the accuracy LoTR vs ASoIAF, this oughta be good. Almost as good as Star Wars vs Star Trek.

Wow, you can visually see how close they were to the first book and how it goes downhill from there. It showed up full screen on mine but attachments can be weird, here is an imgur link:http://i.imgur.com/lceExOP.jpg
If Cersei was your sister you know you'd do it.Cersi is just cray-cray. She genuinely does love her children, but it's so twisted and fucked up and it's all wrapped up in her brother, her father, her spite, and her proto-feminism. Her love is twisted and fucked up because she is twisted and fucked up.
Incest: Not even once.
This. Book 4 and 5, while expansive, are rather meandering. You've got some good plot material for some characters, but for others not so much. A lot of S5 and S6 is going to hinge HEAVILY on how finished book 6 is.GOT's biggest problem in remaining faithful to the books is they are running out of content. Even with the extra stuff added in to Bran's story, he still only has 1 chapter left unfilmed. Sansa/Littlefinger are pretty much at the end of their story as well since they've already talked the Vale Lords into letting them stay on for the time being. Theon doesn't have a whole lot left to do except go to Winterfell and run away from Ramsay. Jaime has to go to run off with Brienne, but that's pretty much it.
Granted there are new characters coming in, but they still need to find stuff for the existing characters to do. You can't just give them a couple of scenes for the whole season and call it good.
Right. While more plot in the books satisfies that lore itch, a lot of it is similar to LOTR and them busting into poem/song every other damn page is a drag on the story. Visual storytelling is much different than the page. With the page, you need to describe the world enough so the mind can paint a picture. With visual, they paint the picture for you already, thus you need to fill it with the "core" story. Unless you are Tree of Life, in which case you just put pretty looking shit on the screen. The story as presented in the books would not have made a good TV show.
So gathering from this, will season 5 be a mix of book 4 and 5? Do you think it will cover most/all of both?
Several characters (e.g. Bran/Sansa) are 0-2 scenes away from being ahead of their chapters in Book 5; others like Dany are 3-4; so yeah, I expect season 5 to almost entirely cover the books and possibly even some parts of Book 6.So gathering from this, will season 5 be a mix of book 4 and 5? It will probably cover almost everything left from books 4-5 and start digging pretty deep in to future stuff. So gathering from this, will season 5 be a mix of book 4 and 5? Do you think it will cover most/all of both?
They have to use both books because main characters appear in 4, but not 5, and vice versa. Considering Bran and Sansa are already at the extent of their written material for the most part, starting next year we are going to be dipping into uncharted territory. 4 and 5 still aren't meaty enough to support 2 full seasons, though. It's easy to think that since the victarion shit is out but Affc+Adwd is fucking massive. They had to split book 3 into 2 seasons, theres no doubt they'll have plenty of material for s5 just with AFFC.
They've already made casting calls for the Dorne Shit (including Areo Hotah and a new Myrcella) so thats like a third of a season right there alone. Theyve also cast for the High Sparrow and Septa Unella so we'll see the rise of the Poor Fellows and the Faith Milititant uprising because of Cersei's partying--that's another half season just developing the rise of the abused peasantry that the show spent so much time building up in S3 during Hound+Arya's road trip.
I suspect we'll see some housekeeping scenes for Sansa, a little jon+stannis at the wall and some maintenance shit with Dany and trystane but most the season will be dorne+high sparrow uprising. They'll get Margaery arrested as the omfg mid-season and then maybe end with cersei's walk-of-shame/ungregor intro and arya going blind.
Isn't number 2 completely wrong? Each book is a year or more in time. This is medieval times... travel and sieges took forever. They even mention how much time has passed in some of the small council meetings.
